Not sure if we are supposed to wait for someone else to start this so just slap me around if I've jumped the gun this morning.
Felt like I needed to go ahead and confess that although my intentions were good I did not get up this morning and do my exercises.:( I'll make sure I do something this afternoon.
I think I was just trying to get up too early. I think that tomorrow I'll let myself sleep a bit later and maybe it will be easier for me to get my rear end in gear.
I'll check in later tonight and let ya know what I did for exercise today. :o
hmmmm not really a great way to start out the movers & shakers today huh lol.....

Ally - By all means, whoever gets here first should start the daily thread :D .
Getting your rest is very important and I'm sure that being properly rested will help you get more gumption to do your exercise. When emotional and mental stress is high, rest is even more important than when we've just pushed a bit too much physically. So, get some extra z's in the morning and I'm sure you'll feel much better in no time!
Now, I do expect an update this afternoon about something being accomplished ;).

Well, Sherry, since you did tell me to bring it on, how about adjusting that Body Flex workout to include: a brisk 3 mile walk, Body Flex, and then a good, fast paced 30 minutes on the Gazelle?

As a life-long avoider of exercise, I need recommendations for getting started. I have a "20 Minute Yoga Workout" book that I like pretty well, and I do have a Body Flex. We try to walk on weekend mornings for about an hour, but don't ususally make the time during the week. What would be a good workout for a beginner?

Hi Vivian, I'm Ally and I used to HATE exercise. Now, usually, I'm addicted to it! What types of things do you like to do? Do you enjoy walking? Do you need companionship when you exercise? Are there any sports that you enjoy playing? Theses are some places to start.
I used to love walking and still do but I don't enjoy walking in town and thats where we live now. So I started doing some walking tapes/dvd's in the house. Those were great! Then I just lacked motivation to keep it up. I have always enjoyed the fitness center enviroment and when one opened up in our area that was easy for me to get to, I joined. I have been addicted ever since and it has just snowballed from there.
So I think the key is to find something you enjoy doing that involves movement;) and get your body moving a little bit each day and go from there. You might end up really getting into it and taking steps from there.
Hope this has helped you some ~ Ally

Shadow, just in CASE you check on me, I played 2 rousing games of dodgeball this afternoon with a bunch of elementary students (and one very aggressive computer teacher...I'm joking...he's a great guy...but he did get me out). Only 15 minutes, but WHEW!! what a workout!
Does that count? Cuz between you and me, that's gonna be it today. hehe

Ally - I am so proud of you :D !!!
Vivian - Have you read the stickies on this forum? Hopefully they'll have some ideas you can use. However, here are some basic suggestions :).
- Decide how much time each day (and when) you're going to devote to exercise. A huge amount of time is not necessary. But you do need to decide how long and when. For example, 15 minutes starting at 9 a.m. every other day.
- Decide what you would enjoy doing. Odds of sticking with it are far better if it's something you look forward to. It can be cardio (brisk walking, dancing, stair climbing, etc), resistance (with whatever weights you have available), yoga, pilates, etc. It might be easiest for you to pick one thing and do it for a while before branching out. But if you're easily bored or not sure what to do, then you'll want to consider having several options available.
- Make sure you have the right "equipment" for whatever you choose. Like proper walking shoes, a yoga mat if it's needed, etc.
- If you have a local library, they may have a selection of tapes to try. Or even if you have friends who workout at home, they may be willing to let you preview some of their workouts.
Since you have Body Flex and a yoga workout, how about alternating them for now? You said the yoga workout is 20 minutes and that's perfectly fine for your beginning. I don't know how long the Body Flex workout is, but I assume that it is roughly the same length. So, putting it together along with your walking, it would look something like this:
Tuesday - Body Flex
Thursday - Yoga
Sat & Sun - your usual walk
Tues - Body Flex
etc.
Now of course, the days are optional and depending on how these workouts affect you, you may certainly do them more often. Unless your walking is at an intense pace, you could always use that as "bonus" activity for rest days and do the Body Flex/yoga more frequently.
The most important thing is to start. And after that, it's a matter of listening to your body and giving it time to adapt to the new challenge you're giving it.
Hopefully this helps some. And if not, I can approach it again ;).

Well, I certainly say that 15 minutes beats 0 minutes!!! So definitely, it counts! Now just think, it will only get better from here ;)! 15 minutes a day this week, 20 minutes a day next week, etc. Go, Aaron, go!!!

Claudette - Yeah for you! And it's so good to see you :D!
Sherry - Okay, I guess that will do  :p....
Aaron - I agree with Sherry, planning is the key. So let's get some exercise commitments written down in ink! And then, of course, we expect you to follow through and do what you've committed to ;).
