Here we go on another week! Hope everyone is getting their exercise in and remembering to do resistance too :). This week and last, my exercise plan has been along the line of what the Drs Eades wrote about in PP (aerobic weight lifting). Next week I'll move on.
So how are you all doing with your workouts?

I'm still exercising, though in this heat, I haven't been so keen to include the more strenuous "extras." It's more likely to be the cardio that gets neglected in my routines, though I've been trying to experiment with ways to include a bit - and I promise to try harder as soon as it's not so hot :).

Cooler today.
Gym after work - weights and machines with my hubby. Raining when we came out - will have to wait to exercise the dogs later. Legs hurting from yesterday's activities, though. 25 minutes walking with dogs.

Mitra - Well, since I've cut back on the cardio because of the heat, there's certainly going to be no finger pointing from me . Come fall/winter, I'll ratchet up the cardio. But for now, resistance is the main part of my week ;).
CMC - Way to go on that workout!

 phew ;). Apart from the fact that I don't like cardio any more than you do, I do seem to have real problems with the heat. It really isn't a good time to be introducing cardio. Today was a bit cooler, but the forecast is hot again for next week :( .

Well, the doc told me last week I was free to do whatever I felt up to doing in terms of exercise, but I still haven't gotten started yet. I kept meaning to, but didn't, and I'm kind of glad I procrastinated because I had a bit of a relapse on Friday and I think it would have been worse if I had tried to exercise last week. I don't know if it was a true relapse or if I caught a bit of a cold due to a stressed immune system, but I was pretty miserable that day - brain fogged, exhausted and somewhat in pain all day. The weird thing was that I felt really good for the first time since the surgery on Thursday, so I was really surprised to feel so lousy Friday. Anyway, I do have my gym bag in the car today, and I'm hoping to get at least a short resistance workout done this evening after work. I did just ONE ab vacuum yesterday, and had some pain later in the evening, so I clearly still have some healing to do. I'm going to try to do an upper body workout tonight and a lower body workout on Wed and see how each affect the abdominal area and my pain/energy levels. Energy has been my biggest problem this last week - I seem to lose energy very quickly with anything more strenuous than just sitting around. Yesterday I did some brief shopping, and barely made it home.

Mary - Just take it nice and slow :). You certainly don't want to jump back into it with both feet until you are totally healed!
Mitra - I remember a time when the heat didn't bother me... sigh. But now it definitely does and most days I consider just breathing to be my aerobic workout for the day !
Randy - Loved the Sunday workout :D!!!!

Yup - slow and easy for me right now - that's why I'm only shooting for two workouts this week. And I have to admit, the heat is also a factor for me - when it's really hot, I don't want to do *anything* but sit somewhere air-conditioned. My exhaustion levels are always worse in the heat... hmmmm, wonder if that's a contributing factor to this post-surgery recovery... hmmmm...

Mary - I'm sure the heat is a contributing factor! Surviving the high heat we've been having is stressful enough on the body ;) - and compounding it with surgery recovery certainly can't be a picnic! I think it's just wonderful you're aiming for 2 sessions a week :D! Yeah for you !

Well, I didn't exercise Monday - I was too exhausted when 5:00 rolled around, but I did get my upper body exercise done yesterday! Yay me! I started with a really good session of stretching, and then did only half the exercises I had been doing. I had to lower the weights on most of the exercises, but I had quivery arms at the end, so it was a good workout. My stomach was twinging a bit from the pressure of the benches on it, but it doesn't hurt today, so I think I did just enough and not too much. I'm going to try lower body on Friday, but I'm a little hesitant about doing the really high weights I had been doing for the leg press, so I may start with just half the weight and do lots more reps instead. I'm thinking I want to keep the weights low until at least a month after surgery just to make sure I don't strain too hard and "pop" something that's healing.

Way to go, Mary :D! Awesome! I think starting with lighter weights on the legs is a good idea too, especially since your strength has been depleted because of the surgery. JMO, but I think keeping it more of aerobic weights (as outlined in PP) rather than weights for strength is a good way to go right now :).
Started PP on 7/17 (CHO < 35 gms) and it seems I have completed the "enzymatic changing of the guard" (PP p. 199). Yesterday I was able to do 30 min on elipticle, 15 min on rower and 15 min on recumbent bike.
7/17 Wt=221 lbs BP=134/98
7/26 WT=213 lbs BP=119/82
Cheers!

Way to go, Root ! Do you do any resistance training in addition to your cardio?

Root,
I like those numbers! Way to go. On top of this your HDL has to be climbing from the exercise. This puts you on the "LIPID Road Crew".
Let us know when you get your blood work done.
Wow what an awesome change in BP Root !! Good for you..you motivate me to get going ...
Thanks Hawk and Ottawa.
Shadow, I do work out. I started in the fall of 2000 when I also started Atkins. Here is my favorite work out routine.

I've gained 6 lbs of muscle over the past 6 years since I started low carbing (11/2000), weight lifting and aerobics. I've been on and off lower carbs over these years. Glad the new forum is up!
Cheers!
