"If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it."
--Mary Engelbreit
I love the children's stories and posters that Mary Engelbreit does, in fact alot of our office has hangings or sayings on the wall from her. But this one is certainly adult directed I think.
For me this is applicable at my job, right now that is causing alot of thought. As a supervisor how far do I go in trying to change things and if change is NOT inevitable :D how much do I change the way I look at things. in other words, how much do we change our thinking to satisfy others if we cannot move them from the place they are. First thought is no no way will I change my view or stance but then as you really start thinking about it, someone has to change for any kind of movement to happen (Lots of stories in the news right now certainly to support that:confused: )
One of our recent planning meetings we had a section called beefs. One of my beefs was that people make excuses and spend an incredible amount of time making excuses and that I really didn't want to hear any excuses, just do it or come and tell me why but don't make up all these excuses. On Monday afternoon I was thinking about the meeting and one of the assistant directors after I said they were a quiet group this morning and she said, "OH Billie it is Monday what do you expect"? and I thought I don't expect excuses. (I have to tell you I have an outstanding staff but we are swamped and getting a little sloppy so the meeting was about 90% you are doing a great job)
Then if you apply it to us, right here, reading this, on the program. We came here looking for something, our weight or our health or our appearance, whatever it is to change and certainly we have had to change the way we think about eating and diet and nutrition and dare I say exercise. We had to change our whole thinking process if we were going to make any of those life saving life causing changes. For some it is one big AHA moment  when that lightbulb goes off and for others it is small steps, and either way is just fine, we certainly all change differently. BUT WE CHANGE, and that is what we need to do, otherwise, heck we wouldn't have to change anything in our lives ever.
Change is good!
Have a great day, meeting yourself halfway or all the way, change one thing you do today for the better.
