hi Everyone, My name is Stuart from Adelaide, Australia. Just last week i picked up the book PP, and was committed from that day. I am only 20, and feel i need to get my weight under control now, before its too late. However I'm having some problems with the counting. Does the book only contain those foods which contain carbs? If they are not in there under breads, cereals, fruits and vegetables, does that mean there are no carbs in them? Maybe someone knows where i could access a full list of foods and their carb content as well as protein, i feel i need something like this to constantly access to assist in my weight loss. I will admit i havent read the whole book, i have been skim reading, as i am a university student, and barely have enough time to read my uni books, letalone PP. but have worked out my lean body mass, required protein per day and of course 30g or less of carbs per day. If someone could point me in the direction of a full list of foods with carb content and protein that would be great, or maybe give me some hints as to avoid carb counting!

Hi Stuart and welcome aboard.
As a fellow Aussie the first thing you need to know is that outside the USA, most countries calculate fibre and digestible carbohydrate separately ... so on Australian labels, do not subtract the fibre content to get the ECC (this has already been done for you).
As for a list the best thing is to go to an online database;
http://www.foodstandards.gov.au/npc/ (http://www.foodstandards.gov.au/npc/)- is probably the most authoritative (just search for ingredients)
http://www.calorieking.com.au/foods/ has a better selection of processed foods and brands, but it is better to stick mostly with 'real' food particularly as you are just getting started.
There is also a simple list here (http://www.empowerfoods.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3045) (where you can also find some more Aussies)
Finally if you want a lot of detail about the vitamins, minerals and types of fats included in your food this site (http://www.nutritiondata.com/) is good but unlike the others it is American so you do subtract fibre - oh and ignore their nutrition advice!!
As for counting carbs, you will find in a very short while that you will get a feel for the carb content of the regular foods you eat, so you won't need to actually count ... unless you want to!
Ask as many questions as you like, and try and finish the book (what are you studying btw?) When you have, try and find a copy of the Eades' Protein Power Life Plan - it is much better written and has a lot more detail about why the PP low carb life is so good for you.
Like I'm sure many others here, let me be the first to say - oh how I wish I had discovered low carb at 20!!:)

If you want to keep track of your daily consumption, you can set up a free account at www.fitday.com (http://www.fitday.com)
You can personalize it to include fibre and other nutrients, as you wish, under Reports or somewhere (it's been a long time since I set it up).
There are also books you can buy with just about every food listed, but they are probably American, and may not be as applicable to you (I find the same problem being Canadian, oftimes). However, the online references (for free) listed above are a great resource.

Welcome, Stuarty :)! Congratulations on discovering PP and being committed to improving your weight and health. As Malcom said, I wish I had discovered PP when I was 20. Oh well, better late than never, huh ;)? If you can get to it, reading the book will help resolve a lot of your questions. And don't forget we are here to help you too :).
