View Full Version : Feeling Terrible

The last few days I have been feeling terrible. I set up a fitday account today to "really" monitor what is going in. However, I do not think I have gone over the carb alottment of 30g, I may not always get my protien as I have not had an appetite.
I have only been on for two weeks, could I be going through withdrawal. The last time I was on PP I had withdrawal symptoms the first weekend. Shakes, sweats, crying mood swings. I have not had this type of reaction yet.
But what I have been having is
1. no appetite (thats wierd)
2. feeling of bloat all the time
3. wake up feeling swollen
4. heavy and fuzzy head (no headaches)
5. stomach cramps
6. distended tummy
I have been drinking no less than four litres of water a day, I have been taking:
potassium, apple cider vinegar, CLA, chromium, B6, B12 and a multi
I feel that I am not elimentating enough or at least what I did in the past.
How much fiber is adequate to get that all going more often. I never really feel cleaned out I guess.
Any suggestions would help

sorry you're not feeling well.
magnesium supplements would be one place to start - good for your cells, good for keeping things "normal".
I assume you are not eating many processed LC foods where sugar alcohols might be an issue - but if you are, try cutting them out. Many find that these make them bloated or gassy.
could it be something with your cycle?

Jackie, I can't think of anything that Lisa didn't mention. I considered a virus, but I don't think it would last two weeks. I do take magnesium twice a day, about 425 (mg?) total, magnesium citrate, which is chelated.

thanks----I will try getting some magnesium. I found some in the cupboard but it is quite old and it is mag oxide. what brand names do you recommend or does it matter
My cycle is 1 1/2 away and I am on the EVRA B/C patch.
Does anyone know how birth control effects this WOE??

I don't know but I am sure we will have some responders Jackie.
Sorry you are feeling poorly but it seems that it could be quite a few different things not even related to the program. On the other hand Lisa's suggestion on the magnesium could make all the different in the world.
Do us one favor--keep us informed of how you are feeling, certainly what to stretch our brains if we need to and find some remedies.
Hope you feel better soon

Sorry you're under the weather. It does sometimes take a while for our bodies to respond to a new way of eating. As to magnesium, the Drs. Eades recommend the clelated kind to avoid intestinal problems. I found one that is a mixture of Magnesium Oxide, Citrate, and Aspertate. The oxide portion helps keep my bowels more regular. The brand I use is NOW, but there are other brands out there. If the one you have is less than 400 mg of Oxide, it will help clean you out without cramping, if you feel your bowels are sluggish. Take it before bedtime.
The Eades are backing off their traditional views about fiber and no longer see it as beneficial as first thought for heart disease and such. On the other hand, it does help keep things moving, so I like to get 20 grams or more a day. Others on this forum might disagree, but I find that much helpful. Flax meal and PGX fiber plus good veggies give me 20 - 25 grams a day.
I hope you will be feeling better soon.

Jackie, the brand of Mag Citrate I buy is Solgar, which is one of the varieties at my health food store that are chelated. Chelated just means it's coated with something like a protein so that it is better absorbed. DH uses dollar store mag oxide and is satisfied with it, although he has mentioned cramping if he ups the dose. It has helped his bowels cope with the pain meds that tend to constipate. He was also diagnosed years ago with IBS.
My doctor said you can't overdose on magnesium, just increase it incrementally until you experience loose bowels then back off a bit. Working from memory (risky for me) I think our modern diets are lacking severely in magnesium and it's essential for absorption of other elements like calcium.

Jackie: I would wonder about specific foods. Are you eating any grains, dairy or artifical sweetners? Or it could just be PMS. Are you getting some omega-3's by eating salmon or taking fish oil? Evening Primrose can also help some people if these are PMS symptoms.

Thankyou everyone
I will look into all of your suggestions and tweak things until I feel better. I am not one to ever say I am stressed, however with harvest in full swing (which I am totally involved in) and the date of school starting fast approaching I guess I may be under a bit of stress.
I am off to university come Sept 6th leaving the kids at home with the Hubby. I am a planner and he is not and its stressing me out about what is going to happen during the week while I am gone. (I will be gone from Mon to thurs) University is about a 3 hour drive away.
I thank you again for all your input, I did not realize that the Mag oxide would work "that way" I was taking some and perhaps that on top of the stress was what was causing the tummy cramps. I also have been diagnosed with IBS a few years ago, however the last time I was on this plan I never was sick even once!
I know all will work out, I just need to relax.
Billies thought of the day always seems to fit my day, isn't that weird? I will plan for a postive outcome, I will think that all will go according to plan with the DH as well as with PP.
(sometimes its just really hard)

Jackie sometimes life is just really hard. no doubt. And you have a lot on your plate, and if you have IBS you certainly could be suffering from those symptoms. Stress can trigger symptoms I have been told but not cause IBS.
And we do such a good job and taking care of EVERYBODY else huh, I mean you are worried about harvest, your kids while you are gone, your hubby, feeling crummy, it just gets to be alot somedays! I completely understand and I can get there really quickly.
Try to do some good positive thinking and really access everything, I bet you will feel better soon!

P.S. but always let us know and thanks for being up front about your concerns, a great start!

(((((Jack...)))))
Ever heard of www.flylady.net? Get some routines set up for DH, and you'll be amazed - and RELAXED - when you get home Thursday nights! :D (My boys, YOUR boy's ages, are laying out there clothing each night, taking care of teeth, etc., and then in the am, are making their beds, teeth, CLEANING down their bathroom counters, etc... It CAN happen! A little bit of training goes a long way!)

Cool website Sherry!! Thanks I am off to make schedules fo the kids. I think they can do it!!
Feeling better already today, the postive outllooks and helpful (((caring))) hints and ideas here are awesome. I have down graded my panic attack!!
PS also helped that the scale was down 3lbs this am. makes me feel that the stress of the new WOL is all worth it. It will take my system a month or so to feel all the wonderful effects of this WOL that do not include the weight loss.
Thanks for making a particularly rocky day, not so rocky!!

"downgraded my panic attacks" - what a hoot!!! :D
I'm telling you, Jack, that website has turned my life around in the last six months... I'm a MUCH better Mama, 'cause I'm NOT stressed about the house, and someone helping me get the work done... pretty cool! It may not happen all at once, but you WILL see improvements, and IF stuck to, those 15 minute routines can change your life! Sounds like an overstatement, I know... but, it worked here!!! :)

Thanks Sher
The kids are excited about their little jobs to help dad when I am gone. I exlplained how we would have much more fun on the weekends if I did not have to come home and clean half the weekend. They thought it was grand plan! I know it won't be smooth from the get go but to have them on board with the idea is half the battle
