Hi all! Yeah, I'm still around .. sort of. Working a ridiculous, insane number of hours every week, but I try to check the board every week or so. Today I actually have some news to share ...

I measured myself for the first time since the end of May. I knew I'd lost some inches because I've had to retire several pairs of pants. Since May 27, I've lost 9cm off my waist, 8 off my hips, 8.5 off one thigh and 9.5 off the other, and 8cm off one bicep and 5cm off the other.

All that adds up to 55 cm, or 21.65 inches! I'm down 3-4 pant sizes depending on the cut of the pant, and down from a 22/24 to an 18/20 or sometimes even a 14/16 (these are all Lane Bryant sizes, for reference). Also every BF calculator I've checked says I'm down about four points.

What's interesting about all this is ... I've only lost 4 pounds of scale weight! So all the new people starting out and being discouraged by the scale not moving, take heart and pay attention to how your clothes fit--they're a much better indicator than the stupid scale. :)

(I'm actually complaining [just a bit, a little little bit] about how much I'm shrinking--replacing my clothes is freakin' expensive, even with an employee discount! What a problem to have, huh? :p )

That's good news, Niobe, thank you for taking the time to tell us about it . And that's a good point to make, that just looking at your weight can miss a whole lot of changes!

Niobe, I know how you feel. Weight-wise, I've only lost a total of about 35 pounds, but when you look at my measurements, it's much more impressive. I've lost 13 inches of my hips, 12 inches off my waist, and 13 inches off my thighs. I've gone from a size 22-24 pant to a size 10-12 pant. Based on my measurements and body fat calculations, I've actually lost 70 pounds of body fat, even though the scale only shows a 35 pound loss.

It really isn't the "weight" that matters, it's the size and body fat loss that truly show how much healthier we're getting. Congratulations both on your losses and on recognizing that the scale isn't always the most important indicator! You're doing great!  :D   :D

I didn't have anywhere near the impressive results you did, but my experience was similar. I lost about thirty pounds and then stopped losing weight, but for about the next year I lost another dress size and became a lot stronger as well without altering my excercise routine at all (ie I don't lift weights).

That's fantastic Niobe! Thanks for sharing!! It gives me hope!!! :D

I must say that I DID notice how differently my clothes fit during the first four months of staying solidly "on plan" and despite not "losing" I was definitely feeling thin. Then went I went AWOL...I felt the difference of what allowing those carbs back in resulted in not feeling thin. I'm back to that good feeling...so, I shall accept that that's just a good as visually watching the pounds go. Thanks for mentioning it. Very inspiring.

I swear...I'll be the THINNEST 360# woman that EVER lived! lol  :D

LOL, I've had thoughts like that too. :) I'm wearing clothes I could last wear at 200-220, and I'm still at 243! Measured myself again today; lost another couple of inches across my body in the last few weeks, which honesty surprised me considering the last few weeks have not been ideal (bad food choices, sporadic and few gym visits, sick and sleeping a lot). I got a new pair of jeans in one size smaller today; they're great standing up, but when I sit down I get a giant fat shelf above the waistband. Oddly, I can wear an 18/20 belt, but 20 pants are still a bit uncomfortable.

GREAT!!!!!!!! :D :D :D OH NIOBE!!!! You ARE giving me HOPE! :D I admit...I "was" feeling the "inch" loss...but I was still getting so darn hung up on lack of that visual weight loss WEIGHT number....:o...and I even took my measurements in the beginning....but let's face it, I'd measure myself, and well, I never felt I was accurate...lol.

Anyways, good for you!!! Your giving me such inspiration. Everyone was telling me that they had noticed a change in me....but darn it all again, that SCALE was beating me.

Go figure Niobe? I'll never really understand inch loss vs. weight loss....but, it does feel good!

OK I haven't measured but .... my second chin seems to have disappeared, my collarbones are slightly noticeable, and my pants are all too big!

We ROCK!!!

Yes we all do. The size thing is what I go by too. Weighing is not a big help, But when you are shopping and fight to keep your pants up and go buy a belt to wear for the rest of your shopping trip.. Whooo Hooo. I have not weighed myself in awhile but my clothes are all becoming looser. Since I quit working I think I have lost two more inches in my waist. Not sitting at a desk anymore . Most of my art work I do standing and Gus is always bugging me to go walking.
You are all an inspiration to me. I love to read about your successes. Keep going!
