"The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to
venture a little way past them into the impossible."

*Arthur C. Clarke

Have you ever not tried a food because you thought you wouldn't like it? Have you ever not tried to do a new exercise routine because you thought ew gads no way? I certainly can say yes. Lamb for one, I have had it recently and I must say I enjoyed it but getting past the preconceived notions we come up with is really the hard part.

I have been away on business for a few days and catching up on the board, I thought this quote was very applicable. Trying to do something different, looking at things in a new light, stretching ourselves for the possibilities...ionly give us "growing" space in our minds and abilities as we "downsize" :)

Many of us have long weekends and I fully intend to take advantage of doing new things and creating new possibilities. Off to try to talk the coffee group to go grape picking for a local vineyard, we are also throwing :D around horseback riding. New possibilities! Whether they are food related, work, home, outside, exercise, new thoughts, new readings, new movies, whatever the possibilities, stretch yourself to them all!

HAve a great day!

Good morning, Miss Billie! Oh, how I've missed your quotes. :) Something that comes to mind for me in trying new things actually happened when I retired. I used to be so tired after working all day, I would just throw a frozen dinner in the microwave and supplement it with carby sweets or salty treats, then go to bed in a stupor only to do it all over again the next day. I resolved to do more cooking and less microwaving after I retired, even before I started PP back in 2003, and I have been doing a lot of cooking. Trying new recipes is always exciting nowadays, and using new ingredients has added to that excitement. I've discovered that I can throw together a pretty decent meal. I'm not quite at the level of Gaelen, Ottawa, or Mitra though. ;)

I'm going to the casinos on Monday and Tuesday. This will be the first time since I got back on the PP bandwagon, so it will be a challenge, but I am resolved to be faithful! I'm singing at 3 services this weekend, and that can be a challenge all by itself.

Have a great holiday weekend! :)

Sardines come to mind - I never tried them until I was 48 and it took me 2 years of reading posts on here (the old board) saying that they aren't too bad to get up the courage to try them. Now I actually like them. One of the best things about lamb is that even in North America, they are not typically fattened up on tons of grain.

Billie, this topic is uncanny unless you happened to see my comments on the off-topic thread yesterday. I was remarking that I would not eat raw meat or fish, and I stand by that today!

In most other things, I am more open-minded. ;) I am a creature of habit, though, and sometimes I have to shake myself to do new things. If I find myself feeling inflexible, I tell myself that it's a sign of old age! I'm going through so many changes at work these days that it seems comforting to have routines at home.

Hmm Carol you will someday try some nice fish I am betting. We had a marinated salmon (in sugar, dill) in June and then again in August, and I loved it. I have had California rolls as a stepping stone to sushi and enjoyed those. Gabe is a real sushi fan, but he is also very picky as to where he gets it.

Diedra sardines still come to mind :D I have tried them and I can say I don't care for them, but honestly did I give them a fair shot, probably not!

Kathy, so good to have you back! I think one of our greatest joys is cooking. In fact I was talking today---oh completely not low carb here so bare with me--of doing some baking, cookies, cakes, pies, rolls, scones etc., and starting to sell them as a sideline, call me absolutely crazy!

Well we didn't go grape picking, but we have been invited out for "heavy appetizers and cosmos" to someone's home, so Gabe and I went to the store and came up with a new appetizer neither one of us have ever made to bring, I guess we are pushing the envelope a little at least.
