HI everyone
I am off tomorrow and with everything on my mind I totally forgot to plan what I will be taking in my lunches.
My classes start at 9:30 and I have a little break around lunch. So what ever I take needs to stay in my back pack for a couple of hours. Probably more as I plan on going to work out at the university before classes even start.
Any suggestions?
I was thinking about taking a serving of protein powder and a water bottle to make a shake...but what could I add to that. I am not sure if I want to open my back pack to a hard boiled egg that has been in there for three hours!!! However, that has been what I have been having the last few days and it feels good.
anyway get back to me

Do you have an iceblock you can put in to keep it cool? thats what i do which is great cos it means i'm not limited to things that won't spoil due to heat...
If i have to pack to go i generally take some slices of cheese, a bit of meat (whatever is ready to grab in the fridge) and a small salad bowl with a bit of dressing on the side, i always include a small bag of nuts/seeds to nibble on during the day or at lunch as necessary, hope this helps, if you can't keep it cool maybe you could use the protein shake and take along some celery and peanut butter, that may keep ok for a few hours...

If you have room in your pack you could include an ice block in one of those insulated padded lunchbox type envelopes.
One thing I've noticed - every single clean-eating forum I read, the people who do best, find a way to travel with their own food. I think I noticed this when within the space of two days, there were threads on "packing lunchboxes" at Berardi, crossfit, rmax, and bffm. weird huh!
So if you can come up with things that work for you, you'll never be at the mercy of anyone else's schedule or any food store's limitations.

Have a look in the Breakfast and Meals to Go section - there are threads with protein bars, shakes and trail foods that might give you some ideas. And some of the muffin-type things from the Bread & Baked stuff section might work.

I'm one of those "carry-all-my-food-with-me" people -- both when I was in school and now working. I routinely carry two meals plus snacks with me to work. There isn't enough room to put all my food in the office fridge, so it stays in my backpack until it's time to eat. I've never had any problem with my food spoiling/tasting bad/getting sick. It's cold when I pack it and it's cooked, so . . . .
My "carry-with-me" meals are usually some meat & vegetable combination carried in a plastic container (diced meat with tomatos, diced meat with leftover cooked veggies, diced meat with salad greens, etc.).
That said, if you're concerned about spoilage, maybe you could carry the more spoilable parts of your lunch in a thermos or insulated bag?

Jackie,
I agree with the suggestions allready mentioned.
Since I am running around in a hospital all day, I find low sugar, or protein bars a good choice. I also carry a measured amount of nuts/seeds with me in my lab coat or in my carry all I carry around. I have carried protein powder with me and mixed it with water in a cup for a snack as most of the floors have water and plastic cups.
When I was out in the field going from place to place, I carried a cooler with ice for my cheese, deli-meat, fruit, sliced raw veggies.
Good luck,
Claudette
