Remembering this day and all the heroes who were murdered on US soil and all the heroes everyday who fight battles from all nations all over the world.

“Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.
George W. Bush

America has its faults as a society, as we have ours.

But I think of the Union of America born out of the defeat of slavery.

I think of its Constitution, with its inalienable rights granted to every citizen still a model for the world.

I think of a black man, born in poverty, who became chief of their armed forces and is now secretary of state Colin Powell and I wonder frankly whether such a thing could have happened here.

I think of the Statue of Liberty and how many refugees, migrants and the impoverished passed its light and felt that if not for them, for their children, a new world could indeed be theirs.

I think of a country where people who do well, don't have questions asked about their accent, their class, their beginnings but have admiration for what they have done and the success they've achieved.

I think of those New Yorkers I met, still in shock, but resolute; the fire fighters and police, mourning their comrades but still head held high.
--British Prime Minister Tony Blair

One set great grandparents were both first generation imagrants from Sweeden who came first to Elis Island at age 16 . Another set were from England and lived in Virginia before the constitution was written. They migrated up to Minnisota and bought a farm. They fought on the Union side of the civil war and some of them died. Another grandfather was a WW1 veteran who was a courior across enemy lines. My father was in the US Navy in Korea. My oldest Son fought in Somalia. My youngest son in Iraq and he may still be redeployed before his 4 years is up in 12 months. He fights to keep the war over there and away from his family and friends.
I believe our country is the home of the free BECAUSE of the brave.

I cannot think of 9/11 without remembering the actual day, and how frantic my family was. You see, one of my brothers, David, was working in the Pentagon when it was hit. He escaped unscathed, thank goodness, but tells us that if the pilot had had better aim, he would not be with us. His office was burned up and he barely had time to get out. I say a prayer every year (well more often than that) thanking God that he is still with us.

It has been a very bad day for me, raining, stormy, black clouds here all day long. And as if on cue my dear friend who has been suffering for so long died at 4:30 this afternoon, my heart is breaking but I know she is in a better place as are the heroes of 9-11.
