I am Hypoglycemic and have been searching for helpful information on this since I've gotten worse. In my search I've found some pretty scary stuff and realized how serious this really is.
I've noticed how kind, supportive and helpful you are towards each other and that's a great thing. I was wondering if any one could start me off on the right path? I now know protien is a huge help to me, and while reading the posts I've realized carbs play a big roll also. I've heard of chromium, is this a good thing? I've also heard of cleansing the body, does that really help in a positive way specifically for this? I'm sure it helps in general and probably wouldn't be a bad idea anyway. :lol: . Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Which of the Drs. Eadeses' books do you have (Protein Power, Protein Power Lifeplan, or the 30 day Low Carb Diet Solution)? Any of the books will give you the basics of the method, including minimum protein amounts and maximum carb intake recommendations per meal and per day, so reading them is really essential--it will give you a solid grounding on the plan basics. Following the basics should dramatically improve your hypoglycemia.
Once you've got the basics of adequate protein and controlled carbs established, then there will be plenty of time to puzzle out supplements. As for 'cleanses,' I'm not much a fan of them. Simply clearing my system of excess carbohydrates and giving it enough protein was sufficient to dramatically improve my health. I'd make sure that you really understand the basics of the plan before you start 'tweaking' things.

Hi Mavis! Keeping carb intake low really does help cut down on hypoglycemic episodes. If you don't get the spikes in your blood sugar, you won't get the fast drops either. Some of us find it helpful to make sure to have some kind of protein whenever we eat a carby food like fruit, which will provide a slower letdown. Also, if you plan a protein-based snack between meals it helps.
I'm not an expert on supplements. I take magnesium citrate, lecithin, fish oil (Carlson's), and a multivitamin. I have no trouble with my lipids or my blood sugar unless I let the carbs creep up in my diet. I've never done a "cleanse".

Thank you ladies. I apreciate your quick response. I'll have to get one of those books before I try anything else. I now know that carb watching is a must, along with raising my protien intake. As for the cleansing? I really wouldn't have done that because I have no idea on how it actually works. My luck, it would do the opposite of what it was supposed to do. lol.

Thank you LisaS, very helpful info you've given. I am feeling better, I've not had an "episode" for over 1 week now, and that's a record. I thank you 3 very much.

I would be very careful about doing any cleansing when you have low sugars. They tend to make you go lower. Your body will cleanse itself just cleaning your diet up. Make sure you get all your meals/ snacks. A wee bit a fruit will help when you go low to come back up. Too much water a will make them go low.

Mavis..hi..this is my first posting, but may start another thread. Wanted to let you know, though, that I was dianosed with hypoglycemia over a year ago (did you know that some doctors do not recognize hypoglycemia as a problem?). Anyway, I could not get the help I needed around here and went to Chicago (150 miles away) to Loyolla Univ. clinic in Maywood. Saw some amazing doctors who encouraged me to experiment with many meals and very high protein levels...also told me that every one's metabolism is a bit different, so what would work for one dies not necessarily work for another.
What works for me is with every "meal" (7 a day) I must have at least 3 oz of protein...I cannot have more carb grams than protein, and I need fat in every meal. What that does for me is slow down the process of converting the carbs and protein to glucose. I still have hypo episodes, but they are few and far between and I am losing weight again.
