"Don't bother about genius. Don't worry about being clever.
Trust life to hard work, perseverance and determination.

[FONT="Century Gothic"]I had a boss once tell me, "the harder you work the luckier you get" and I have to really come to believe that in all things. There are always those people that life seems to be handed to them on the proverbial silver platter (and who knows what goes on behind closed doors) but for the most part life is working hard for all of us.

You might be reading this and say well doh of course it is. But on the other hand the question might be are you working hard at it right now?As hard as you should be or could be? It just isn't handed to us on a silver platter at all, hard work not only gets things accomplished it but it also feels very good. I feel good at the end of a good day on the program, I feel like I did hard work.

Have a great day, work hard, and feel good!/FONT]

another favorite saying:
"Chance favors the prepared mind" -- Louis Pasteur

it is the day to day hard work that prepares us for those "ah ha" moments - in science, at work, and in life.

There was an article in the New Scientist a week or two ago about genius being more about hard work than inate talent. I was thinking about it at my music lesson the next week. I listen to someone like Julian Bream playing the piece I am struggling through, and am awed by his "genius," but he said in an interview that he practised 10 or more hours each day! Maybe if I put that much effort into it, I'd be a genius too ;).

Actually, I feel that I have put quite a lot of hard work into improving my diet over the last few years. Because I enjoy hanging out on the board, find the various articles and books interesting to read, and love cooking and eating, it hasn't necessarily felt like work, but when I talk to other people and realise how very little they know about nutrition, and when I look at the records I've kept of what I ate and how it affected me, then I realise that it didn't just happen on its own. But there's always lots more left to do :D.

the other phenomenon about learning things is that you do the same thing, practicing over and over and you just aren't getting it or getting better at it - and all of a sudden one day you try and BOOM - you've got it! You see this all the time in learning a piece of music, learning a new skill like tennis or needlecrafts or even a new subject like Spanish or biochemistry or calculus.

I've read some articles by people in language immersion programs who talk about this - day after day, they live with a host family and are completely unable to follow the day-to-day conversations, mentally translating each and every word and sentence - and one day, they come down for breakfast and BOOM, they can follow the conversation without any effort at all - something just "clicked" in their head and they have understanding w/out translation.

I imagine if a 5-6 year old could articulate it, the same happens with reading - suddenly you go from reading the individual words and making sense of it more-or-less after the fact to having fluency and reading with comprehension of full sentences.

You have to do the practice and not get discouraged and not give up - keep trying and practicing and IT WILL COME - if you stick it out.

The same is true with diet and exercise and life changes - practice, practice, and one day it will come and just be part of who you are and how you do things. At least that's what I'm hoping for :D

I believe that genius is the ability to survive in whatever circumstances you find yourself in.

And sometimes it is truly the aha moment, you just get it all of a sudden. You can be doing it or thinking about it, but sometimes it is like well darn I get it now and the light bulbs do go on.

It is alot about pratice too Mitra you are right. YOU have praticed great nutrition and you are knowledgable. If you spent that much time on the music, it would show there too. I think anyone can be genius or more genius like with tons of pratice.

We are driving in the car and some nutritionist or some news exert will come on the radio and I am afraid Gabe is going to drive off the highway. But he does know and it has come from years of research, same with you!
