I have not been around here in a real long time, so I truly hope I am not doing wrong by asking this question.....Has anyone tried the WHEY LIGHT protein powder from Protein Factory? It reads as if it is good for weight loss , has low carbs and 36 gr. of protein. I am looking for a good protein drink to supplement when I dont eat enough of it but I cant use Soy protein, thyroid issue and estrogen domanance issues.

Feedback or recommendations are welcomed.

thank you
Vicki

Hi, Vicki! I remember you... :)

I can't speak to the Protein Factory powder, but you may want to check out this thread with LOTS of info on protein powders:

Hi, Vicki :). I use the Protein Factory for my protein but have never tried the Whey Light. I'm wondering what is 'light' about it? In other words, what is the advantage to the light over the regular old whey?

The article is so long and I cant copy/paste here at work. If you check their web site the explaination makes sense, but, then what do I know. I might try posting a copy/paste tonight....if I remember there are a few on this board that know alot about this type of stuff and could say if it is just hype or not.....I would like to find out, it sounds good to me, but as I said, I need someone who knows more than me to check it out.

Vicki - While I am certainly not an expert, if it were me I would stick with the regular whey. According to the nutritional values, the regular has (per 50 gm serving), 3.34 net carbs, 38.4 protein, 4.18 fat. The 'light' (per 50 gm serving) has 5 net carbs, 35 protein, .5 fat. So, IMHO, the only thing they've done is remove fat - and replace it with carbs. While it claims to be a 'lean & mean' type of formula, it doesn't appear to present any advantage that following the PP WOE does not offer ;) - i.e. keeping LBM and losing body fat. But this is just my opinion. The final clincher for me would be that you can't get it unflavored :p. I prefer to add my own flavorings so I have control over what products I use and when :).

If you read the whole article it really does make sense and yet I cant help wondering what they did to "alter" the composition of the whey protein to make it so special??? Is this just a lot of hooey to get you to think it is special for the $40.00 it cost or did they really do something to "alter" the whey protein....if so, I wonder if it could maybe not be all that great for your body as the natural whey protein is...dont want to ingest something that is detramental for my health even if it helps the weightloss. There use to be a guy here in the old days that was really up on this "chemistry" type stuff but I cant seem to remember his name.....

Here's the "blurb"

Whey Protein Light is the first protein powder made for weight loss. The Weight loss from Whey Light is a result of a scientific alteration of the protein which in turn makes you lose body fat. This scientific alteration of the protein in whey light is what makes it completely unique and different from common whey proteins that build muscle and bulk. Popular whey proteins are formulated to build muscle and bulk and do not address weight loss. Whey Protein Light is the first whey protein to address the issue to “lose body fat AND maintain lean muscle mass”. Whey Light is the first whey protein clinically proven to reduce body fat and maintain lean muscle mass, naturally.

*controls hunger
*controls fat deposition
*accelerates fat breakdown

USE A WHEY PROTEIN THAT NOT ONLY HELPS BUILD LEAN MUSCLE, BUT MAKES YOU LOSE BODYFAT.

Ingredients: Hydrolyzed Whey Isolate, High Maltose Corn Syrup Solids, Artificial Flavor, Citric Acid, Guar, Xanthan, Alginate, Medium Chain Triglycerides, Soy Lecithin, FD&C Red # 40, and Neotame, Sucralose.

And their "regular" Whey Protein Isolate:

Product Description:
Derived from high quality mozzarella cheese, instantized whey protein concentrate (WPC) is 80% protein. Instantized WPC 80% is manufactured from fresh, sweet dairy whey that is concentrated and spray dried. The product is a homogenous, free flowing, semi-hygroscopic powder with a clean, bland flavor. The addition of lecithin in the instantization process improves the dispersibility of the product.

Guess it depends on what you want to ingest.

There are other types, I'm sure, but that's the one you were querying

I think their extra claims are not from the Whey per se but from the MCTs that they are adding - same thing we get in our coconut oil - medium chain triglycerides - if you do a search on the benefits of MCT you get the same things "lose body fat" "control fat deposition" etc.
I'd go with regular whey and add a source of MCT if that is something you want. but that's just me.

opps.....just noticed the corn syrup solids.......your right, sure dont want that. Thanks for all the help....how did I miss that...

Vicki

I even went back and checked the ingredients they listed on the web site and high fructose corn syrup was not listed.....where did you get this info.? Not questioning you....just wondered why it was not there.
