Sir/Masses could i ask yee all a question please ?
Have been eating this way for perhaps 11 years.
Every so often, i will have a mood crash which seems to come after i've eaten oodles of fat..many handfuls of nuts and lashings of olive oil on me 'fud'. Assume this swamps my system. somehow . I know bugger all scientifically so if anyone could enlighten me with a 'perhaps' i'd be deeply grateful vis what happens.

Thanks muchly

Simon (Fellows)

Dr schwarzbien in the book " the schwarzbien principle" says low carb diets may lead to depression. She didnt say why though. I read later (i think it was sears) that all amino acids (a.a.) compete for entry into the brain. Tryptophan, an amino acid is relatively scarce in protein foods compared to the other a.a.'s. Insulin causes all a.a. except tryptophan to go into muscles when it is present (ie when sugar is in the diet). Since after insulin, tryptophan is relatively more abundant, more enters the brain. Tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin the alleged feel good neurotransmitter. So maybe yer hi fat meal is really a low carb meal=> low insulin=> low tryptophan absorption=> :( It should be noted that a person on a tryptophan depleted diet doesn't always get depressed.

Reading Mike's blog it also appears that you are IFing, could that also play here?

I have never heard of a mood drop after fat, only after carbs, but others might enlighten.

Mr Balls what a wonderful name. Well i can get my mood chipper again with something quite carb dense so assume , phaps wrongly, its blood sugar related.

Thanks for taking the time to reply
