Does anyone have information on fish oil causing insulin resistance; I read this on a diabetes board and researched it and found the following that appear to say the opposite (that fish oil doesn't cause IR and may actually help it):

I think these say fish oil helps IR:

Fish oil prevents insulin resistance induced by high-fat feeding in rats

Influence of dietary fat composition on development of insulin resistance in rats.

These are old (1987) but allege that fish oil helps IR (in rats):

Omega-3s didn't improve insulin sensitivity:

Google search used:

Nothing scientific, Mike, but I have 2-3 tablespoons of Carlson's fish oil almost every day and I have not noticed any problem with insulin resistance. Stress, however, and I'm assuming it's the cortisol, affects me and will cause a rise in blood sugar, which I "assume" is from insulin resistance.

A study done by Dr. Barry Sears on the effects of Fish Oil for type 2 diabetics found it to be helpful in controlling the markers for the condition. He recommends 4 - 5 grams of actual pharmacy grade Omega 3's for type 2 diabetics.
