View Full Version : My amazing story!

Hello all!
I started following the PP in May of 1998. I had instant success. I started my journey at 320lbs and lost 75lbs in 3 months!! My total cholesterol dropped from 175 to 100 (it has now leveled at 110).
Unfortunely, at that point I hit some bad luck, or should I say it HIT me. I was in 5 car accidents in the next 18months (wrong place-wrong time, none of them my fault) and my weight-loss stagnated. I bounced up and down the scale adding 30lbs when I was sore from being hit, and dropping the 30 as I recovered - over and over again. It was not a good couple of years.
Once I was done playing bumper cars, I maintained my weight-loss and after the accidents lost another 35lb putting me at a total lost of 110#'s.
I remain a 200lb woman-officially diagnosed by doctors as "big boned" ;)! Broad shoulders, strong legs, good "birthin hips"! Not all of us become run-way models as we go down the scale!! But my size 14s fit me much better than my size 30s EVER did!

I have had an amazing journey and attribute it to the Protein Power Plan. I admit, I don't follow it now as I did in the beginning (that would explain why I'm still 200lbs). What I kept is the "watching my carbs". I have taken certain foods completely out of my plan-no pizza, potato chips, french fries, chocolate, cookies, or snack crackers. And I NEVER eat in my car!
These things I have continued since day ONE and these simple choices have saved me many times. The rest of the time I make smart choices - I avoid potatoes and stuffings, I watch my high carb vegetables and fruit, and I ONLY buy low carb bread.

November 2005 I had skin reduction surgery (circumpherential abdomioplasty - an all around tummytuck). I dropped 2 sizes after the removal of the skin (this got me from a 'plus size' 18 to my 'misses' 14s). The wonderful part was not having to "tuck my body" into clothes, things fit-and look-great! And that's not even mentioning the major difference in how I feel (and look) wearing a SWIM SUIT!! I'm very glad I made the choice to have the excess removed!!

So that my story, however...I've decided I am ready for an UPGRADE.
I would like to spend the next month back on phase one. Go back to counting carbs and measuring/weighing everything. This is the third time I've done this and I learn something new every time. Sometimes my portions have crept up and I didn't realize it. Sometimes I have added a new vegetable or fruit and didn't check the carb content therefore I don't really know what I'm eating. I believe it's good to go back and "check up" on myself!

Now you all are "caught up" on my life.
I posted infrequently on the old board, but I'm back and look forward to getting to know you and your stories!

Welcome Amy :). Thank you for sharing your story .

The January Challenge sounds like just the thing you're after to spend a month checking where you are. Like you, I don't normally count numbers, but I do find it very useful to have a check-up every so often to avoid major drifting. I look forward to hearing more from you.

It so odd that you are mentioning the January challenge. I saw the Dec 28th one before I posted, but didn't see the January one until after you guys mentioned it. I effectively am doing the Jan challenge, so I suppose I might as well join in and be accountable.

Thank you all for you responses. I love that now we can connect and chat with people that truly understand what we're talking about! I would have LOVED this when I was first starting! What am I saying, I LOVE it now!!
