Which (low carb) bread crumbs led you to this site? Thanks in advance for letting us know; we want to be sure we've left pointers to the community in all the right places. ;)

Aaron posted the link for us all to move here. Thanked us for our support and love and made it easy to make the change.

I received a heads-up email from Billie letting me know so I could inform the folks at the PPWOL board.

Originally I hear about it on another board I'm involved in. Never posted to the 'old' PP board but read and used many recipes. Then that board crashed and the interim location didn't work right for me. Just got an email from Gaelen about this new location (Thanks!!) and hope to familiarize myself with how it works. Every board is different and it's like reinventing the wheel every time to get used to different formats!

DLm2000 and temptd2--welcome! Each board is different and there are many things to get used to but we feel like we did alot of research to give everyone something that they could use. So hope you feel comfortable and at home!

Welcome!

Hello everyone! My name is Deb and I am new to this board. I re-read Protein Power to gear myself up after being on diet after diet and failing. My doctors kept putting me on the standard Heart Association diet - you know the one - low fat, high carbs - and I kept gaining weight. After reading Protein Power, I made my doctor run more blood tests as per the book and lo & behold, turns out I am hypoglycemic and insulin-resistant, but not diabetic (yaay!).

I immediately started the PP plan, eating lots of lean protein (mostly fish & chicken), high fiber veggies and tons of salads. I completely eliminated all white flour and sugar from my diet with the sole exception being Lindt 70% cocoa extra-dark chocolate (hey, I gotta have SOME chocolate occasionally). No white rice, pasta, bread, cookies, cakes, etc. I dropped 5 lbs. my first week, have gobs of energy and my skin looks great. And the food choices are tremendous - I don't even miss the starchy stuff any more!

Looking forward to getting my weight under control and reading this board on a regular basis for tips and encouragement. What a wonderful "family" this is! :)

Hello, Deb :). Welcome.

I hope you'll join in as well as reading - keep us posted on how you're getting on. You'll find lots of others to enthuse about Lindt 70% ;), though a few brave souls prefer the 85%. I'm just working my way up to that one :D.

Well, I found some online, but I hate buying that kind of thing online...we don't live in a major metro area...anybody find them, say, in Tulsa? Kansas city? St. Louis? Maybe I could get there....me need 85% chocolate!!! ;-)

I actually found the old board first by way of googling and finding the official PP website. Alas, in the midst of joining the board was hacked but then I found the yahoo group and joined there. THEN when THIS board came back up I got the appropriate group email about it and waaalaaaaa... here i be! lol

Hi! Just joined today.I used to read the old PP board (though never posted), and followed the link from there to here. I've been "plan hopping" with predictably wobbly results and want to commit to PP--it worked for me before. It's great to have a board devoted to PP!

85%??? Where can I get THAT??? I absolutely love the 70%

Michel Cluizel (Paris) also makes an 85% "bitter chocolate." There's also a Paris-based chocolatier (I think it's Cluizel, it's been a while since I've had it) who makes a 99% dark chocolate--and surprisely, if I remember correctly, it did not taste that bitter.

whoa...99%??? Not sure I'm ready for that... although I did see some 100% near the 85% at the health food store, some that you break off pieces to make chocolate drinks...I considered buying some just to see what it was like, but didn't.

Hi all ~~

I just joined this group yesterday. It took a lot of going from here to there to finally arrive here. So far it has been a very good source of information; everyone seems most helpful.

I just rediscovered the original PP book among my multitude of books, and a light bulb went off in my head. I have been having some serious health problems, and the solutions the Drs Eades put forth just make so much sense. I did South Beach for about four months in late 2003 - just long enough to lose enough weight to fit into the gown I had purchased for my youngest daughter's wedding. Somehow the program got left along the way -- and I have been getting heavier and heavier. Many other things in my body aren't working right, either. I think this is the answer.

I am no longer a "spring chicken", though I am looking forward to feeling like one again. I know I am going to need a lot of help and support to go for the long haul, so I'm counting on you all. I'm glad you're here!

Love and HUGS,
Dotte

:) Thank you for the welcome, Sherry. I'm glad to be here....

Dotte is my at-home name, mostly; Birdsong is my on-line name (sometimes you can't get the one you want, but I had better luck than usual this time...I didn't have to add numbers to it) LOL. You can use whichever you like ...:)

Hi, I am new here in this Forum. I found it by searching the internet for low carb diets. At a forum for people having obesity surgery (www.viktop.se (http://www.viktop.se/)) in Sweden I found a link to www.3fatchicks.com (http://www.3fatchicks.com/) and from there I ended up here, and I think I will stay here.

The weight-loss clinic handout suggested this forum and the Eades' books.

I had once tried low carb dieting using Low-carb Dieting for Idiots. I think I was on the right track, but I was still eating too many carbs, and I lasted only a month. Also, my attitude wasn't quite right, and I did nothing but complain. Now I think it's great; I have decided to forget what I can't have and concentrate on all the great foods I AM allowed: nuts, full-fat cheese, yummy whipped cream, bacon--what's not to like?

Now that I understand how my body processes insulin, I'm finding low-carb eating a lot easier. After an initial mourning period for all my "beloved" carbs, I have come to understand that like a diabetic, I will need to do a variation--hopefully a little less strict--of this diet for the rest of my life. I'm enjoying my new-found freedom from "the beast."

I'm so glad I found this forum; the clinic can be supportive only to a point, and I go there only once a month. It's good to chat with like-minded people.

I re-read my old PP book last Spring, then ordered the newer PPLP and read that. Then I just thought I would do a search for a "protein power" website just to see if there were updates on info, etc. I didn't know there was a forum and all, so I lurked for awhile and then participated.

I read the book and followed the plan a few years ago, but found no webpage available. I did not maintain my weight loss and after trying to follow other plans, I didn't like, I did a web search hoping to connect with fellow low-carb believers for support. I'm very happy to be here:tongue:
