Hi All, I haven't been around for quite some time. I do lurk occassionally. Well, I have been trying to get geared up to go whole heartedly back to Phase I since the first of the year with little success. Now, though, I am joyfully pregnant. I do not want to go on Phase I at this point, but would like some advice.

First, I need to break out the book for the maintenance phase, but I haven't had a chance this week.

Second, there is one thing that I would love to avoid this pregnancy, and I know PP can help. With my first preg, I swelled to insanely. That was the only problem I had with that preg (other than my feet growing). It took me months before the swelling went down. Actually, I had pitting 4+ edema in my legs and brawny orage edema in my lower abdomen - that hurt. The swelling actually got worse when I would lay with my feet up.

Anyway, my nutitional plan is to eat 100-130 gr of protein and to keep my carbs around that point or lower, and to watch my refined carbs.

Does this sound right?

Do you have any suggestions?

Is it worth me getting a meter to keep a check on my glucose levels? I did not have GD with my first preg, but I was close. I am insulin resistant now.

Oh, I am also Hypothyroid. I just started taking medication last Oct. I feel worlds better. Any suggestions for foods or powders that do not contain a lot of soy or other foods that affect the thyroid?
Thanks.

I'm sure I will be around a lot more in the near future.

Oh, I am only a few weeks preg.

Congratulations, Mo :D.

I don't have any experience with pregnancy, so I can't answer most of your questions, but your right that the PP advice is not to try and lose weight, but to eat a maintenance-type diet where your carbs are somewhere around the level of your protein requirement.

I avoid soy and use a whey protein powder (when I use one which is infreqently). Read labels on everything - soy is used as an addtivie in a lot of foods, both low carb and not. If you are eating grains as part of your plan, there are a lot of good whole grain products that do not contain soy. Mission Tortilla is making a low carb tortilla that is fairly low in soy (compared to others) and I've seen several whole grain tortillas out there as well that have things like flaxseed in them.

if you're having edema, limit your grain intake, and watch your salt intake--every kind of salt intake, include hidden sodium in sauces and dressings, and higher sodium veggies like tomatoes and higher sodium seafoods like shellfish.
