So I can have 40???? Yee ha!!! I wasn't over yesterday then as much as I thought. I had 60 grams and 19 fiber so 41. I was really really hungry and the cals were over 2000. No worries there yet.

Mikki - Yes, 40 is acceptable in the beginning :). I know there was a slight difference between the books, but this plan is very flexible so just go with what works for you. When I started, I did the 30 and even in maintenance I stay around 45 ECC. It's a matter of what works for you to get you where you want to be.

Thank you Shadow!!! I need to keep my bg's controled since I decided to quit my meds. I couldn't stand the side effects. If that means less carbs thats ok.

Still learning top PPL said 7-10 carbs per meal, based on 3 meals a day. IS ECC carbs? I am not up on the lingo yet.

Neither have I come to the section in the book where you subtract fiber from Carb to get the actual carb count. Is this how it works?

What about sugar alcohols on sugar free sweets does that come off the carb count the same way?

Thanks Theresa

Hi Theresa! Yep, that's how it works. Subtract the fiber from the carbs..and that's ECCS.

Sugar alcohols the same. Although there is debate among us about the effect of sugar alcohols. Some people can handle them without awakening the carb cravings and some of us can't.

The effect of sugar alcohols varies between the different kinds, and to complicate things a bit more, people respond differently as well. Dr Mary Dan Eades recommends counting about 1/3 of the value for sugar alcohols.

On the sugar free sugar alchohol issue~ I think they are impact carbs (at least for me) It raises my number on my meter.
