I know that there has to be a thread on this forum about the meat and eggs fast, but I couldn't find it..so sorry for being redundant. Today is my first day of being on the meat and eggs fast hoping that it will break my stall. The problem is I have a major small tooth, and I was wondering, for both this fast and PP, what about meringue cookies? If you don't add chocolate and keep it simple meringue cookies are a very low carb option, but no one ever mentions them, that I have seen. I mean its egg whites and alittle splenda, or whatever sweetner you prefer. Like I said I have a major sweet tooth and if I deny it, then I end up semi-bingeing or eating over my limit. Can anyone give me any insight into the meringue issue?

Kelly, I have had meringue cookies from the store and I could easily binge on them, so I don't go there. That said, if yours are only egg whites and sf sweetener, they could be an option. If they keep you from a binge, why not?

Someone else may know something that I'm unaware of.

The nice thing about PP is that my sweet tooth has gone way down. It only becomes a problem when I have emotional issues, and that's a red flag for me. Like a distant early warning I can't ignore.

Good luck and congratulations on your weight loss! :)

meringue cookies would be fine if you tolerate artificial sweeteners well. You might have an interesting time getting the texture to set just right with only splenda - we've had some discussions about that about a year ago when Gabe was trying to make meringue "tart shells" to hold a berry filling. There seems to be some structural food chemistry involved and not just sweetening with the sugar.

as far as "meat & egg fast" you won't find many threads here on that topic per se as it isn't from one of the Eades books. It is a popular topic on other lc forums, just not this one.

Kelly, here's a link (http://www.proteinpower.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117) to the thread Lisa mentioned, where meringues were discussed. If you search on "meringue" in the recipe section you'll find a few more places where they're mentioned.

The "meat and egg fast" isn't really part of PP, any more than "fish and cabbage" or any other combination of foods. PP/PPLP say how much protein you need, and the maximum number of carbs for various stages of the plan. What you eat within those limits is pretty much up to you, though they do give advice on avoiding certain kinds of fat, aspartame &c, so really, whether you want to include splenda with your meat and eggs is your choice. Dr Mike mentioned recently in his blog (in response to a comment (http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/?p=743#comment-34223)) that he will sometimes eat just meat for a few days (or do intermittent fasting, or replace some meals with shakes, as in Thin So Fast) if his weight has crept up, but there's no special meat and eggs thread here, and no mention of it that I know of in any of the books.

I was thinking about using Xylitol instead of splenda, which doesn't have the fillers, but not sure how they will turn out.

Kelly, elsewhere you've posted that you're very hungry, and eating anywhere from a low of 1000 calories per day to a high of 1600 calories per day. I have to say, the things combining to 'stall' you could also include: not eating enough, and over-use of artificial sweeteners.

Not to be a downer, but fruit at this time of year is, to my tastebuds, incredibily sweet (the black raspberries are just coming in now...mmmmm!) Why not try measured (small) quantities of fresh fruit, rather than artificially sweetened cookies, and see if you can both control your sweet tooth and restart your metabolic thermostat at the same time?

Just a thought...
