Can someone tell me about Pork Rinds? Are they permitted on the PP food plan? I am not through the PP book but am in need of a snack.

Thanks for your help!

I've never eaten them. No foods are not permitted so check the label and if they fall within your chosen eating parameters and your meal plan for the day, have at them.

Me, I'm trying to learn to eat only good food that I've planned to eat - trying to beat the snack monster by starving him - so can't help you there.

Pork rinds are very doable on protein power. Your commercial ones are generally about 7g protein per ounce and 0g carbs. You will want to avoid any that have transfats and ideally will be able to read a label to know (partially hydrogenated is the key phrase).

I go through periods when I like to have them. Then I get very bored of them. As for the snack monster, if I eat 5-6 meals a day, it's a different strategy on beating the snack monster.

Taking it back to pork rinds, they are an easy solution to meal #4 if I didn't plan ahead. A 59 cent bag is good for 14g protein without adding carbs (PS don't buy the BBQ flavored ones... they do have carbs... not a lot, but still).

Forgot to mention... if you want chip like things, couple things you can do:
1- buy peperoni, bake in the oven at 400 until they get crispy. You might want to blot.
2- grate parmesan. Grind some black pepper, hot pepper, whatever over heaping tablespoon mounds on a baking sheet (a slipat works very nicely here). Bake until they melt, then let cool. If you're very slick, you can take them while hot and mold them into bowls and tubes and whatnot. Very nice for dips, salsa, etc.

Pork skins are also good to use as "breading" on chicken when baking. I like the bbq ones best, but you must take the carb count in.

To add to a suggestion that Maxlharris had, I talke the pepperoni slices, add a little cheese and microwave. The pepperoni will get a little crisp on the edges. It is quite tasty and helps to get rid of cravings.

A snack I like : Put one slice of american cheese on a saucer. Micro one min. (on mine--yours make be hotter or cooler) before it cools use a spatula to remove from saucer. Crispy and good.

I had to experiment with the time a couple of times to get it exactly right.
