Good afternoon!
I had my first rootbeer protein shake and enjoyed it!
However, I am sitting back on the couch and I'm almost feeling like I'd had an alcoholic drink! I'm buzzin'!
Has this happened to anyone else? Is this normal? can anyone explain?
Sorry...can't say that it happened to me...
Sounds fun though! :p

Would be curious about the sugar/carb content of such a thing. Or total protein number for the day. Or whatelse you're up to. Sounds like:
1- sugar rush
2- dehydration
3- something else.

What's the recipe, perhaps that'll let us know what your drinking?

1 Can Diet Rootbeer
2 scoops of Isopure protein (0 carbs 22g Protein)
ice
there isn't any caffeine in rootbeer so i am curious. I am drinking my second protein drink and having the same effect. Not sure what the deal is - it's not horrible just a little light headed. hrm.
Just out of curiousity, why did you leave out the rest of the ingredients of the shake recipe I gave you??
I don't know if this matters, but in the recipe it said that the "no salt" was NOT AN OPTION...it MUST BE ADDED...??? I assume this is so the fluid doesn't just go right through you.
BTW, are you drinking fluids between your shakes??

Hrm, if it shoots through, and no-salt is a mandatory ingredient, I'm looking at either potassium short or dehydration.

Amy - The recipe I saved from you was the Mocha Protein Shake recipe. I did not see the Orange/Rootbeer shake recipe.
I'm not sure about the salt question.
I am drinking my water. I am wondering if my digestive system is used to this much protein so fast?

Just wanted to mention this, because whenever it comes up in conversation, people are surprised. If you are buying Coke brand root beer, it DOES have caffeine. For whatever strange reason, Coke decided that they needed to add caffeine to their root beer products. I haven't found any other root beer with added caffeine, but this means I don't assume - I always check labels for caffeine now!

I don't know what a Mocha Protein Shake is..?? Must have me mixed up with someone else??
This is what I posted in the Menu challenge thread:
My shakes, which sort of follow the shakes described in thin so fast by the Drs Eades are made this way.
Enough mixture for 4 shakes:
2/3 cup carnation powdered milk (enough for 1/2 quart)
1 tsp no salt
4 servings of protein (I found a no carb soy protein powder that has 13g of protein per shake-it's a generic GNC brand)
1 packet splenda
(mine makes 21g protein and 6ecc per shake)
Divide the mixture into four servings. When it's time to drink/eat, add one of the servings of mixture to your drink (I prefer diet orange soda, diet rootbeer, or coffee). Add about a can's worth. I mix with a tiny battery-operated mixer, but you can just stir a lot.
Add lots of ice to keep it cold.
Drink

FWIW, another thought is that even protein can cause an insulin spike, especially when ingested without fat. As well, some protein powders are at least partially predigested, and this might cause an even faster reaction. I don't have a citation for any of this...just "things I've read." And Deirdre has mentioned increased heart rate from foods to which we have sensitivity, even if not to the extent of "allergy."
Yeah meli58...that's a really good point. In the book they mentioned that people NEEDED the fat with the protein.
Wait, I'm not gettin fat from my shakes...just with my meal...oh, and my almonds.
I looked up Isopure Protein Powder and saw 50g protein:eek: ...must have seen a different one...

Wow! Thanks for the recipe (again). I'm not sure who I got the mocha shake recipe from.
I appreciate all of your help!
I will follow the recipe and see what happens!
BTW, I just found diet PEACH soda at Target...
DELICIOUS in the shake...makes peaches-n-cream!!
Mmmmmm
(don't forget the NoSalt)

Thank you all for your help!
I made shake with this modified recipe:
Isopure Protein Powder 22g Protein
1 Can Diet Orange
1/2 heavy whipping cream
ice
I do not have "nosalt" but I am not having the same effects. The two things that changed are the type of soda and the whipping cream. It tastes so much better with the cream! :-)
I am really enjoying these shakes. I think these are keepers! I can really live this food lifestyle with tasty treats like this!
Do you like Peaches?
Do you live near a Target store?? Get the Archer Farms diet Peach soda...it was very yummy!!
I remember in the Thin so fast book that he stressed getting fat with the one meal you do have like cheese or quac or butter...make sure you do eat at least ONE meal (5-6oz meat, 1 cup lettuce, and 1 cup lc veggie).

I do like peaches! I will try the peach soda!
I have ordered the book from Amazon (last week). I was interested in the shake to make sure I was taking in the protein. (A tasty snack is an added bonus!)
I do have a question - what is quac?
guac with a g, not a q...sorry-typo
...guacamole...
