"If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome."
-- Anne Bradstreet

Welcome spring! It seems with spring we are almost forced to exercise to eat differently. I know I am not as lethargic, I am ready to go and be doing things and be outside. But if we had not had winter, the snows and temperatures, would we celebrate the grass turning green or the trees blooming or the crocus

Spring just seems easier to do work on health issues as well. Grilling outside for example, the fresh vegetables that we will soon be getting from our various regions, those wonderful asparagus we can get now, even taking a late afternoon early evening walk.

What are your thoughts on spring in regards to eating? Is it an easier time of year for you? If it isn't, are there any steps you can take to make it easier? Although I like all the seasons, they come and they go, our health is with us for a lifetime.

It's not too late to join the April challenge on changing habits, come be apart of it and try to make some great habits in April.

Have a great day!

Billie - I think of spring as my "battery recharger" ;). I always seem to just plug along over the winter, but come spring, I always feel renewed and have more zest for everything - life, eating, exercise, etc. But as you said, if we didn't have to muddle through winter, spring probably wouldn't be so rejeuventating :p!

I love the extra light, and it's invigorating to see all the greenery just bursting into life all around. But I find the food part frustrating, because it's not really until late May that there's much extra choice.

Shadow you know I feel the same. It is like spring recharges me, good analogy, to do better eating and certainly exercise. It just is so great to open the windows and breathe in the air, you can smell spring. Planting a few pansies in pots this weekend, I was elated to see dirt under the finger nails.

I don't think I suffer from lack of sunshine, although on a beautiful spring day, I know I love it!

Me neither, Billie! But boy do I need to work on my winter intake of sun .

Janet - It will be the end of May until we get anything in our stores, too :(. I will admit I don't like the extra light at the end of the day - but everyone knows I'm not average :p!

It's not so much the length of daylight, more that in the middle of winter it barely seems to get light at all. In the summer months the light is brighter. In June it would even be light(ish) for your 4am workouts!

I don't really need the warm, although it's wonderful, but where I live is gloomy all winter and the sunny skies are what make me bounce. I hate getting up in the dark. I love the longer days.

Janet - True :). But luckily I live in a place where the sunshine is consistent year round so it never seems as dull and dreary as PA did ;). Yes, in June the daylight will be right around where I like it. Actually, last week was good too as it was getting light not long after I got up. But now I'm back to the dark mornings again :(. Okay - I'll quit whining now :D!
