Welcome to the last week of the challenge. Today is just that, another Manic Monday. My supervisor is, surprise surprise, out of the office today. Who cares. I have training! Fun fun fun! I have some stuff to look at. Cost flows and some other consultant report and hiring piece. Exciting.

Have worked it, and rocking it.

This weekend, saw Eastern Promises. It was great. Viggo is my new body model. He's not ripped in his naked steam bath fight. But he's got the body that I'd like to maintain forever. Minus the tattoos. Recommend it, especially if you like Viggo, Cronenberg, or movies about Mobsters.

Hi everybody,

Hope you had all a good WE.
How are you feeling Hawk, better ?
For me it's already the afternoon.
Max it's a yes for me for friday and saturday and a No for sunday.
And of course today I am craving for sugar like mad. I am happy to be at work where there is no sweets otherwise.....
done my exercices today and so far, so good. I will have a shake this afternoon to help me with my cravings. Usually I never do but today it drives me crazy
Have a nice day all :)

I'm awake and my meals are planned and packed. I don't get home on Monday's until about 9pm so I have to plan for the entire day. I do have a workout planned, albeit a short one.

I started watching The War (http://www.pbs.org/thewar/)documentary last night on public tv. It's a 7-day series done by Ken Burns. So far it's sad and amazing...if you get the chance, I highly recommend it!!

Back from the canoe trip up just two pounds which I will drop before Friday. All 6 days (Tuesday-Sunday) were higher carb days but I had planned on that and every day had major workouts hiking/portaging with packs as well as several miles of canoeing each day.
The fishing was poor but the lake was exceptional and we swam every day but our last day. We were the only people camping on the huge lake except one night. We met several groups briefly at access points on their way to other lakes (all Americans but one person) and talked over fishing and the incredible wind on two days.

Josiane, good luck with those cravings. Max, I'll check out the movie. Amy, the series sounds incredible. I'll have to wait and rent the series.

Hi everyone--

Another week and another chance to work our programs and feel good about ourselves.

I am off on some errands and then have to buckle down and get some work done. I think I'll get my exercise out of the way before I go so it's done. When in doubt, just do it. Or so I tell myself. Not that I always listen to me. :-)

I've read great reviews of the Ken Burns series and have it tivo'd for later. I love documentaries.

Have a good strong day!

I do the same thing...interesting isn't it that we spend the trip working out, but still gain weight?
You'd think you'd burn everything (even higher carb stuff) because of the intense activity, but I don't, I end up gaining a couple pounds (that fall off right after as well). I suppose it could be water weight - we do drink a TON of water, hence the quick drop again.

I will say this about the war series...it's graphic. A LOT of pictures that were "withheld" for years because they're so graphic. Lots of death and bodies destroyed (and I do mean destroyed) but they're black and white and not extremely clear (thank goodness).

I'm pretty sure much of it is water or histamine induced water retention. I can span my wrist with forefinger and thumb and find after a trip like this (or a carby indulgence) that I cannot quite span it. Also my hands are a little puffy as well so I think part of it is a reaction to change and part, the body working to repair itself from the abuse it gets.

I have a few small cuts/scrapes, stable fly bites, 1 burn, and two raw spots on the back of my Achilles tendons from wearing water walkers and grating sand into the back of my heel. It saves a lot of time wearing them to step out of the canoe in water and pulling the canoe through shallow spots. I had meant to bring a pair of light sox to prevent this chafing but it was too late by the time I noticed the irritation.

I think part of it is rounding errors. A lot of room for it.
When you go out and don't count, you probably round down and estimate low.
You do exercise as part of an activity, you probably overestimate the volume or intensity.
You do the exercise beyond your normal amount and you figure that extra food/carbs/whatever is already taken care of.
Etc.

I'm not saying you, in an accusatory frame, more like the royal you, me included. My Kansas City Trip, where I felt I was walking miles, carrying the load, going to the gym (I was), and eating not terribly, was a scale shock on my return. In retrospect, I ate a TON, moved less than I thought I did, etc. Italy, I didn't actually eat all that much and we walked way more than at home.

My takehome from this is: When you're off plan, it's better to be in a portion controlled country, or eat portions than to eat at buffets. Especially where carbs are served.

Last thought: Ultimately, it's about living life, not about losing weight all the time. If you have a great time making memories that are gonna last long and it sets you back a couple days, then that might be the right trade off. Kansas City was a disaster for me. But it's a learning disaster. It was short on the precious memories. Would rather be on a canoe trip than repeat that. Even a business canoe trip.

Ottawa...we always wear socks with our water shoes. GF wears kayaking socks and I wear SmartWools. They dry quickly and prevent chaffing.

Max, I hear you. And I agree...as long as I'm out having fun in a memorable way then what the hey! Doesn't mean I have to go overboard. Thank goodness that trips out in the wilderness one has to plan and calculate the amount of food needed, because the last thing you want to do is add extra weight by bringing too much food! No buffet's out there, let me tell ya!

Amy, I did watch The War last night. I love Ken Burns. Because I live in a history-oriented house, I know, or have seen, a lot of documentaries. I think Ken Burns does a better job than most. I, too, am glad the graphic pictures were mostly indistinct. It burns my heart to hear again what we did to the Japanese-Americans.

Josiane, hold tight and you'll get through the cravings! :)

I had an interesting breakfast this morning. I heated my breakfast meatloaf on a paper plate left over from our 25th wedding anniversary party. Might as well use them up! The silver decoration on it must have had some metal because it started a fire in my microwave! By quickly turning on the exhaust fan I managed not to wake anyone up with the smoke alarm, but it sure did smell bad!

The rest of the day has been terribly mundane!
