R Kelly - Thank God It's Friday
"Finally the weekend's come
And everything is goin' down
Nine to five and now it's time
For me to get around"

Do you feel like partying?

I don't plan on partying, but Friday is always a special day even though I have to work part of the weekend. It is a time for reviewing the past week and seeing how it went.

Many of us end our work week today. As you look back on the week, and forward to the weekend, what are your successes? What have you planned for Saturday and Sunday?

Although I missed a day this week (over on carbs) it has been a great week. I was at the doctor's (GP) for a blood work sheet and to review my surgery. He took my BP and said, "That's the best on your file, 114/84."

Today is a lunch with work friends at Boston Pizza. Hopefully they have a garden salad and I'll get a chicken breast with it. The weekend will be on plan, although busy. We will have roast lamb tonight, I help test a friend for his Pleasure Craft Operator's Licence tomorrow, work on his property a bit and then work part of Sunday to make up for my recent canoe trip.

Hi, Randy, great bp  That is what I am working on now--prime goal is to get off of a bit more of my meds. I started trying to walk two times daily instead of just once. And did pretty well with that this week, tho one day, when I worked all day with 4-5 year olds, I couldn't muster up any walking at all.:frown:

Plans for the weekend? Tonight I am taking my hubby out for dinner as it is his 69th birthday and another couple is going with us to help celebrate. And believe me, we have lots to celebrate and be thankful for-- we are both in fairly good health and get to do most anything we want to do (health wise--not money wise .:D:D:D

Saturday, he and a buddy are going golfing and another friend and I are going shopping in a town we don't usually drive too, so that will be fun and we'll have to find some great new place to eat lunch.

Then we also have ggs birthday party to attend. With all the little ones we have in our family it is sure a good thing I don't have any problems with the ice cream and cake. I'd be in real trouble.

So that's the big plans around here and now I better get busy around this house.

Good morning. Randy..thanks for the e-mail and congratulations on your blood pressure.

Karole.. have a great weekend. It sounds like fun!

I have a follow up with the pain doc in an hour. The mechanics of my walking has improved drastically since the epidural. I can walk normal without twisting my body to take a step. The sympathetic nerves are quieted down. I don't know for how long. I hope forever. I am daily improving. I hope to begin weight lifting again.Today I will have the doc check the epidural sight and ask him about it. I hope I can remember all my questions.

Porch is getting ice shield, paper and shingles today. I may even be able to finially help! My husband treats me like such a girl.I have to push to be able to help . He is afraid I'll lose my balance because of the foot not allowing me to put weight on it.It just would not let me. Even if I tried to force it. It is not doing that now and I can put weight on the front of my foot.SO.. whether he knows it or not...today when I get back from the doc, if I don't have another epidural...I am up there.

Karole - Happy Birthday to your DH! I hope you have a wonderful time :).

Lynn - How sweet DH cares enough to watch out for you! I know it's restricting - but he does it with love ;).

Randy - Awesome BP :D!

Do you feel like partying?

I can't say that I feel like partying, as I partied all week and am looking forward to getting back into routine. But I do plan to have some fun setting up a good routine. I have 3 weeks before my routine gets changed again. So here's to having a great, exciting routine! :-)

As you look back on the week, and forward to the weekend, what are your successes?

This week I made a new commitment to my health. I gained 4lbs but i also know what it takes to lose it. I am looking forward to the process.

What have you planned for Saturday and Sunday?

My husband is out of town still, so I plan to take ME time. Set up my routine, relax and get ready for Monday.

All the best with the doctor Hawk. May he resolve the problem to the point you can move on with it.
Shadow ... where the heck have you been???
Karole, I'm a firm believer dating keeps us young.:D
Feelix, What will you do with your weekend?

Little bonus note from the Blog (http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/?p=957) of Doctor Mike Eades to mull over the weekend on Weight, Calories and Metabolic Advantage ...

"The concept in question is interpretation of the energy balance equation, which looks like this:
Δ¯Weight = Calories in - Calories out
What this equation basically says is that the change in weight (ΔWeight) equals the number of calories consumed minus the number of calories burned off in the process of daily living."
...
Problem is, that doesn’t work in the long run. Numerous studies show that people can restrict calories and lose weight…over the short term. They can’t seem to do it over the long haul, however. All the subjects in the Keys study lost a huge amount of weight while on a restricted diet and a lot of exercise, but as soon as the study was over, they gained all their lost weight back plus some, which is what typically happens with overweight people who lose substantial weight dieting."

My husband treats me like such a girl.
 I hear you, but isn't it nice to have someone who watches out for you? What did the doc say?

Randy, great on the bp! I feel like partying, but I don't have one to go to! We're probably going to drive north to catch some fall color photos tomorrow. The best place in the lower penninsula seems to be about four hours away, so it will be a long day.

I'm driving DS's Volvo today because he said he need my Blazer. I assumed he had to transport something that needed more room than his trunk had. Now I'm thinking that he's probably wiring in a new CD player, since mine broke this summer and Sunday's my birthday. I'll let you know later if my hunch is correct!

Have fun tonight, Karole, and happy birthday to your hubby!"

Hawk - good luck with the doc

Randy - great blood pressure

Karole - happy birthday to your DH!

Hawk - I sometimes wish my husband would treat me "like such a girl". It is great that he thinks I can do everything (like the time I'm telling him, I can not carry this brand new hot water heater into the backyard and help you bring it down into the basement ... no, seriously, I am putting it down, now) whether it involves physical or mental muscles, but, I really wish he'd
TAKE OUT THE GARBAGE!!!!:D

Friday, Friday, Friday ...
today I was slow getting into full gear. I had two people comment on how quiet I was this morning. I was there, but not 100%.
I'm closer to 90% right now:rolleyes:

Still got a lot done. Have much of my desk cleared - which clears my mind.

We're going out to dinner tonight, going to eat dinner at my in-laws tomorrow night

Will help my daughter with her new apartment tomorrow in the day. Sleep in a little first:D

Sunday, laundry, puttering ...

POLL question:D

which scale should I use

1. the digital one I've been using ever since I got it.

2. the balance one I used to use

I weighed myself on both this morning - first time I've weighed myself on both since the day we got the digital one (and they were the same).

Obviously, I received 2 different results and I know which one I want to use;) ...
but I'm not gonna' say what my results were until I get a few unbiased opinions:D

Karole

I don't really trust my digital scale. It will keep the same figure for who knows how long , right to the 10th. I cannot believe a person could weigh exactly the same day after day . Water fluctuations surely would cause a person to vary at least a few tenths every day or so.

I vote for the balance scale. (Hope it's the one you liked best !!!):D:D

I also like the balance scale best. I bought a digital from Costco but found the opposite of Karole. It varied +/-6 pounds and I would use it several times and have to take the average. I returned it the next week.

The balance scale has a much smaller problem. When the bathroom is cold it shows that I lost a few pounds and lose them as teh room warms up.

See Anniesnan..I would have no problem pushing the hot water heater onto a dolly strapping it in and taking it downstairs by myself. I carried a walnut desk up the stairs by myself. I move subs speakers and set up sound equipment. I am not quite as strong as my husband but near...He told me he can't do 4 sets of 60 pound curls like I could before my injury. I have not been able to do much upper body since the epidural and none since the fracture.

The doc today said I had 80 % improvement. I think that by working at it , although it will take time, I can have even more. He told me..no impact aerobics,no running. Biking ok and elipticle ok. Right now my lower back hurts alot worse than my foot.

AND NO for the first time. I think. I could not be perfect. I went to Fanny Mae and bought $30.00 worth of chocolate and nuts for the nurses who got me into the doctor so soon. I was offered a chocolate truffle and it was heavenly..How many carbs are in a chocolate truffle? If I have no other carbs today...will I make my 20 goal??

Shadow ... where the heck have you been???
Exercising :D! Thanks for posting from Mike's blog! Always a good reminder for all of us :)!

Agnes - If it were me, I would go with the one you like. After all, as long as it's the one you're going to use, then it's the only one that matters ;). Unless you want to make yourself crazy always using two - and I don't think even Randy is up to that !

I know I like my old non-digital bathroom scale better than the doctor's balance scale. One time when I went, they had a bathroom scale out for patient weighs because the balance scale needed calibrating. I KNEW it! I also tell them that my shoes weigh three pounds each. They just laugh. They've heard it all.

What a day! My darling son broke the hazard flasher button on my steering wheel as he was taking my dashboard apart to install my birthday present radio. The garage's COST to buy the PART is $285. Woah! He feels absolutely terrible and frustrated. I'm not worried about the flasher (DH is) but I felt really bad that his act of love backfired.

On a better note our school restaurant had salad practice with the students today and I got a delicious chicken/bacon salad for lunch! Boy, I missed those salads this summer!

Thanks, Randy :D! Actually I've been here - just very quiet. Amazing, isn't it . And no, I never did.

Carol - Oh, how awful for DS ! I know he must feel absolutely terrible :(. I think he deserves a big old hug for caring enough to get the gift and install it - and also to soothe his frazzled nerves after that!

Oh, he got lots of those, trust me! Plus we got a little advice on how to fix the problem for less money. We're feeling better.

It's been a day, but it's been a YES day.

My friend who had the quad bypass surgery is doing very well, so I feel good about that.

Where would we be without our friends! And I count you ALL as my friends.

It wasn't the weight, Hawk - it was the girth. I couldn't get my arms around it and had no place for purchase and - he didn't think of using the dolly:eek:. It wasn't until I insisted that I was going to drop it that he let me go get the dolly:rolleyes:. And I was worried that if it dropped, we'd be starting from square one, 'cos of the glass insides.
Getting it inside was a whole different problem, 'cos it was pulling/pushing it in through a crawl space.
But, I am NOT as strong as I was when I was 25 years younger and carried a 6' armoire up the stairs (okay, a couple of stairs at a time) by myself. And he doesn't understand that.

well, that's settled then - I'll use the balance scale:D. It was 2 lbs less than the digital. But, I'm not counting the results yet ... 'cos every time I do that, it seems like I hit it at the precise moment for optimum results and then the next 15 times are not as good:rolleyes:

I have to report a NO for Friday!

The restaurant had sauces on everything - unexpected. and I ordered short ribs, but there was something - not a sauce? - not quite sure what it was, and it was impossible to scrape it all off - restaurant too noisy to find out from the waiter what it was
and I didn't get in any "organized" exercise, either.
