View Full Version : Rock-tober 10th: I Just Can't Wait

Well, I couldn't wait for the thread start, so here it is.
Yesterday was the 4th day in a row. I felt really good. Today will be the 5th. I am well prepped. I had a shake. I hit the bike. I've done a Sudoku (I do it while waiting for my computer to get up and going and through all the security nonsense and so on). I have an InStone pudding. I have a ziploc bag which contains a FlatOut Lite flat bread (6g net carbs), some pieces of steak (note to all: Cross Rib only looks like Ribeye. There is a difference, I learned, to my chagrin), some slices of prosciutto and some sliced cheddar cheese. I'm gonna assemble it all at lunch, but it had gotten to 10:30 last night, and I hadn't packed lunch, so this is what I threw together. I have nuts. I have the will to do it. So, today is day 5.
While we're here, scale is being nice. I know it's water gain, but it was here and now it's gone, so who is to mince on that? If I keep this up through Thanksgiving (49 days by then), I'm gonna be fine, fine, fine.
And maybe that's my bit of simplicity. Having a clear goal to go for. Something in my control, but something countable, something not too far and something really tangible.
Rock on.
Found out Stevie Wonder is coming around. Might just have to splurge on that.

Good morning, all--
Max--great string of days going; looks like you're all ready for the day. And how does that flat bread compare with LC tortillas? Where do you get it?
I'm good so far--breakfast done, lunch packed, water on board. I'm working on a new attitude today (yesterday was the pits in school). I'm remembering--I set the tone in my classroom. If I come in with a bad attitude, it spreads.

On track as well.
Today is a strength training class at lunch and tonight is house chores. (Part of the planning thing from last week so we watch less television, was to designate Monday-Creativity night, Wednesday-Chore night, Friday-Date night, Saturday-1 project). Hopefully it lasts, although tonight is "chore night".:(
The creativity thing was initially sparked by this month's Challenge thread and boosted by a quick stop Sunday at Studio 737 on the way home from Peterborough. I occasionally work with watercolors and we both like the art of Cheryl Gerard (http://www.studio737.com/SherrillGirard/girbio.htm), who displays there. We have three pieces of her earlier watercolors that are extremely detailed. Watercolors are very unforgiving (a mistake or slip stays on the paper) and I'm always amazed at how true her images are.

Hi, Y'all,
Snacks, meals on plan.
My scale is ceretainly being nice.
I am down another 0.8lb! Looking better, purchased a small scrub top this week. Cool.
I haven't seen FlatOut bread, but I rountinely purchase CarbCountdown with 6ECC from Walmart or my Tom Thumb/Randals/Safeway. Perhaps it is the same product with a new name, since I haven't purchsed it in a month or two. I love to braise with olive oil, bake in the oven for 1-2 min, then use pizza quick sauce or low sugar tomato sauce, add cheese, olives, ham, etc. and make a pizza.
Taste delish and helps my craving for the occasional pizza.
With all this talk about InStone pudding, I am going to have to try it.
Where do you purchase?
Have a great day, all. Will check in later, but today, will be a Yes.
#10 in a row, only detour was the 1/4th of desert on my birthday.
My favorite kind of water color Randy. The challenge of having no way to erase or change it intrigues me. I love the exactness of her art. I am not a fan of totally painterly watercolor(watery looking) I like your plan for not watching TV.
Max...good job on 4 days. You are on a roll.
Claudette..Congrats on the scale going down.
Ruth..good luck with your attitude.

Thanks.
By the deli counter at the supermarket. Here in DC, Safeway has them. Back in the Midwest, I think it was Schnucks that had them, maybe Dierbergs did as well. I've been told that Wal*Mart/Sam's Club has them, but that's hearsay on my part.
FWIW: I don't really like the tortillas. The Flat Outs make nice pizza crusts. I like them, but I have found that with the torts and the flat outs, I tend to not finish the bag either way. Just not that big into them, I guess.

Different product: CarbCountdown vs FlatOut. FlatOut used to sell a CarbOut. Then, it became FlatOut Lite, but it's the same thing. Net carbs continue to go down (it might be a sizing thing). Used to be 8-9g Net, now is 6. Go figure.
InStone is the famous Sly Stallone pudding. Comes in Chocolate (okay), Vanilla (gross) and Banana (untested). 20g protein, 2g net (iirc). I got mine from Netrition.com. I would suspect that Vitamin Shoppe or GNC might have them, but I wouldn't know for sure. I think I've seen some other high protein puddings, like one from BSN that you make up yourself. I'm not sure about the carbs though. FWIW: it's not the world's greatest indulgence, but it's completely on plan, very convenient, and when you're shooting for 125g of protein daily, a 20g snack never hurt. Last thing: at room temperature, it's liquid (and gross). Refrigeration is key, though I had mine after 3 hours out of the fridge and it had the best texture yet.
Claudette...definitely check right in front of the deli counter. The FlatOut's are at all our major grocery stores...Cub, Rainbow/Roundy's, Byerlys, Kowalski's, HyVee, and Wal-Mart.
I just came back from my first of two ultrasounds. I have swelling in my lower abdomen so to "rule things out" they're starting with ultrasounds.
I learned that inside my abdomen I'm storing a skull, a monkey, a banana, and a caterpiller...or atleast that's what *I* saw on the screen!
I will say that my aorta looked rather big and my liver was HUGE!! Of course I have NO idea what these things SHOULD look like on a fuzzy black and white screen image shot, so really I have NO idea what I'm talking about.
I'm not worried, this ultrasound was a "just in case" one. The pelvic ultrasound I have on Friday is the one that I think IF they find anything then that will be the one they find it with.
And just so you all know...it IS true, I saw it with my own eyes, I AM beautiful on the INSIDE!!!

Hey!!
Aren't those things people LOOK for when defining beauty???:p

It's all about the wabi-sabi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wabi-sabi).
You're beautiful inside and out. If only I weren't married and you weren't, well, "alternatively" lifestyled
When I first was reading the info on Wabi-Sabi, I thought you were calling me an 'imperfect piece of rust'...but then I kept reading!
oh Max...way to make my day!!

Wabi - sabi: very nice!!
One of the things I really like about his board is how thoughtful and intelligent everyone here is. And funny.
My calories were high yesterday. Ratios okay. An extra glass of wine last night. Everything was hurting after a very intense workout yesterday. So I indulged.
I am going low on calories today to make up for it. I'm not hungry at all so far, so that's good.
Booked our flights today for our trip home for Christmas. After our trip to Spain this summer, everything seems cheaper!! ;) Just hope the weather cooperates.

GOOD ONE!!!
Have any of you women had a pelvic ultrasound? They're NO FUN...besides the fact that it's like the never-ending pap smear...before the ultrasound you have to drink four LARGE glasses of water and NOT go to the bathroom..they want your body FULL of water!!:peeved:
sorry, was that too much information??

...at least on that subject!
Having an on-plan day. I'm really happy that our cafeteria has started cranking out salads at lunchtime. Makes my inconsistant planning easier to rationalize.
Congratulations on dropping a size, Claudette!
Randy, I love the artwork. I was expecting the pastels, but these are exciting. My photographs should look so good!

Gaelen - How's the new lunchbox working out?
I am having an on day. Spinach Salad for lunch AND supper. I bought a lot and it's on it's second last leg. We are even inviting our neighbor over to dine on it with us! No waste here. (or waist - since that's one of the goals)
Here is to Day 2 OP!
Y'all are so much fun!

Amy - you're right - they're NOT fun!
I had a terrific on-plan day today!
We bought 10 oz of brussel sprouts the other day and I decided we needed to cook them TODAY before they go bad. We also bought fresh asparagus, but I think that'll hold a little longer.
I've only cooked bs once or twice before and didn't remember how to cook them. Both recipes I found called for either boiling or simmering. I decided, well, you can boil or simmer potatoes, too, or bake potatoes...
so, I prepped the bs and put them in the roasting pan with the meatloaf (carb less). Popped it all in the oven while we went walking.
Needed some more time when we got back, and they looked a tad dry, so I added some pats of butter on top of the bs and made a fabulous salad - left over salad bag, with celery and red pepper strips and romaine and gave dh 5 pepperonis with a little Alouette garlic and herb spread to hold him over:D
The Brussel sprouts were delicious. We ate about 1/3 cup each and according to my figures, it's something like 3-4 net carbs and they were delicious - dh thought they tasted like "textured" popcorn.
Definitely a keeper recipe:D.
Hey Anniesnan...we steam our Brussel Sprouts, then pop them in our mouth - eating them like candy!!
We grow them, so we still have greens in our garden although it's been 35degrees overnight lately.

It was a yes day for me... I ate BACON for supper. My low-fat but cola chugging nit picky mother-in-law announced to the family the amount of bacon I ate and snicker "how can YOU lose weight eating bacon?" I sucked my crude answer back and decided I would show her with my fabulous figure!
So here is to 2 days on plan with number 3 starring me in the face. :-)

way to go all of you who had YES days today...and if it wasn't a YES day, remember that every meal, every day is a new beginning.
The new lunchbox is waiting for its debut...I washed it out after buying it and it wasn't dry in time to pack this morning. But tomorrow...look out.
Great visit with my local oncologist today, who greated me with 'You're my star, I am so glad to see you today. You're a miracle, you know that you're a miracle don't you?' The visit progressed and he spent the whole time reminding me that it's been three and a half years, that I look great, that he's so happy for the success of my treatments. He asked me to join his practice's newly started mentor program, where survivors work one on one with newly diagnosed patients (something I already do for C3 and CCA and with the newly diagnosed in my company.) But I was really honored that he asked me...and it reminded me again why he's such a cool doctor (and why there's such a contrast with Dr. Personality at Sloan Kettering... )
Then he closed with "I'm not sure what you're doing--but keep doing it." and moved me from 3 month checkups to 6 month checkups.
One day at a time...and another YES day in the bag!

Missy!! Welcome back!! I am recently back myself and am so glad about it.
Amy-- they are never pleasant, but given some of the alternatives, I'm thankful ultrasounds exist. I am having my first colonoscopy soon and do not look forward to it. I'd rather have 10 ultrasounds.
I did not get my exercise in. i woke up feeling sick... ears, foggy, no energy at all. My food was squeaky clean and has been all month. But it was the third day in a row for me with no work out. I guess that gives me a NO for the day. I will do better today.
See you on today's thread!

Oh, Sarah, you're stronger than I am, some days. Yes, I've had people look at the huge chicken breast with a pile of vegetables on my plate and demand to know how I could eat like that and still lose weight. At that time it was obvious I had lost lots, so I just shrugged.
I racked up another YES day for Wednesday.
