My son, finially after two years of trying to sell, has an accepted offer a second house he has been renting out off and on. The closing is at one pm today. Trouble is...A giant Maple in the back yard was hit by lightning, a split down the middle and a huge 50 foot tall section fell ,taking up the whole yard and part of the neighbors yesterday . He called us..DAD.MOM .It's an emergency..bring chain saws!. SO till 11 pm we three cut and stacked and raked and loaded until the yard is ready for the walk through again. We have a two loads of maple firewood for next year.We also took 15 loads of branches to the local landfill where they will be turned into free mulch for the community.

That was excersize I had not planned on. Though it was not unpleasant, it is very hard work. What's your latest unexpected excersize session??

How does today look? Have a plan yet? I have yet to make coffee,, I was wondering where you all are??

Good morning, Lynn! Did you have to take the rest of the tree down, too? Those storms have really been something!

Nothing unexpected for me lately. The worst happens to me is that I have to make like the white tornado in the house for unexpected company. That's nothing compared to processing a fallen tree!

My day is looking doable. Yesterday I started a project and it went so fast that I'm already done! Halleluia! Breakfast was a blueberry shake that looked like a Purple Cow. I reached for the strawberries, but picked up the wrong bag. DH got up early and sent me off with a cup of fresh coffee. I got a haircut last night, so my bangs are out of my eyes. Life is good!

Wow, Lynn, that's quite the "bonus" workout ! Somehow I always manage to get unexpected workout time in each day - but nothing quite as demanding as that ;).

On plan today with exercise done, water almost finished, mind challenged, and meals down for the day .

So, had the big meetdown yesterday, at long last. And, apparently, given enough nagging and such, they've come to their senses (well, actually, it's the looming threat of a continuing resolution rather than a functioning budget maybe, but still). So, I'm gonna write up how I would conduct an experiment on the rehab here (rather than write up a 10 page statement of work that would result in hiring some smart people in Prada Suits for 7-figures), and then write up what I would give 7 figures to Prada Suited Consultants for. Then, I'm done. Nice.

At any rate, I left, a hour late for leaving, like bubbly. Someone has finally listened to common sense and decided not to waste taxpayer money (in this instance). This might be my greatest work accomplishment yet. Amazing.

On the down side, my ability to argue for remote work went out the toilet.

Unexpected exercise: I suppose a couple weeks ago, I randomly decided to do an extra dreadmill session. I also randomly decided to walk to Borders on my lunch break. Later, would randomly decide to walk to CVS. Mostly, my unexpected exercise comes from extra energy, which would back up Gary Taubes on exercise and lean (exercise doesn't cause lean, lean causes exercise... not that I'm lean yet, but I can see how the excess energy results in movement sometimes).

Any rate, it's not a day without a quote:

Ho imparto che niente e impossibile, e anche che quasi niente e facile...

That's the original in Italian (Articolo 31 raps). In English, roughly, "I've learned that nothing is impossible and that almost nothing is easy."

I think everyone learns part two. It's the part one that we struggle with. There is nothing (outside of law and physics) that's impossible. It's just a matter of degrees of difficulty.

Hawk, what a chore but you did get to work with family which is always a treat.

I have decided to spend more time out of the office
with my clients and it eases some tension as well. I am catching up on almost all my loose ends and will be caught up when I leave tomorrow. Even the Ergonomic Evaluation (definitely government) person is coming over to check me out for a new multifunction chair after complaining about the condition of the office furniture.
I cleaned the whole house last night, sorted out the remaining tasks, and ordered the Slow Burn DVD set yesterday (went in halves with someone here);).

Today is on track other than being short on water and I will fix that.

Sad news in the Twin cities area...

I just ran down to Panera to get the 1/2 sandwich/soup combo, and they have discontinued one of their low-carb breads, and are considering discontinuing the other...

Anyone else have this happening in their panera's?????

Maybe Taubes book with bring back the low carb offerings in restaurants??

Hawk - OMG, what unexpected exercise!
Of course it had to happen BEFORE closing:cool:

My recent unexpected, other than unexpected at work which happens often, was helping my d-i-l move her stuff to storage. Hard, but not chopping trees hard.

Stairs were hard today. Don't quite know why. Had to sit on the 4th landing. Legs like lead.

Feel better now, and went up again later with no problem?

Well highly unlikely I'll get any unexpected exercise today. I called in sick. I'll miss my workout too.

I've been having TMJ off and on, and it's on right now and just so annoying. I don't feel any more stressed than usual, which means not really any, so not sure what's up.

I think I'm allergic to work. I mean, to my office, or something in my office. Every Monday I come home hoarse from work. Yesterday my face was swollen and I was hoarse. Tomorrow I think I'll move the plants into a spare office and see if things improve. I also have a space heater that I run, and I've been thinking that was it, but I didn't run it yesterday.

Another option could be that I'm having a reaction to almond flour. I've had more stuff this last week with it and notice my digestive system doesn't really like it.

I hate when I find something really good to eat, that's low carb, that makes eating low carb more pleasant, then realize I can't have it regularly, or ever!! Kinda like Panera discontinuing the bread.....such a bummer Ammy.

Now I'm hungry...

The good thing was that the tree fell AWAY from the house. And that there is room on the property to back the truck and trailer in to get the firewood out. The new owners are in the military and their Aunt has power of Attorney. She will be at closing. A neighbor heard it creaking and called the realtor who called our son and the Aunt. The Aunt came at about 9 pm to see the damage and was amazed that we were going to work till everything was cleaned up. We were concerned that she would not close on the house today. She did not seem to have a problem with the tree falling and was glad it happened before the closing (of course).

Randy, our family has always worked at big projects together. Our son helped us roof. We helped him set up his martial arts studio. Next week G'man is putting in a Bose speaker system for our son at his studio. I think it makes the family close. It's alot of fun too if you make it that way. I think your family is the same way.

When they were children, I was accused of breaking child labor laws by insisting they learn to garden, do yard work and laundry and help build decks. So when something like this happens, my son is amazed that his 52 year old mom can still "throw down" with the best of them. At least that's what I heard him tell the realtor when he called.

I don't expect anything out of him that I would not do myself unless I'm in a body cast.

My upper back and shoulders can feel the labor from last night.

Hawk- You and your husband are an awesome set of parents. I would love to have y'all around. And firewood!!! it will smell so good...

I am having a great day. My exercise class went well. I took my measurements and from March 30, 2007 I have lost 12lbs and 3 total inches total. I am hoping to see more of a change in the next few months. :-) A little faster would be awesome too. :-)

Hmm...unexpected exercise...does having to do extra grocery shopping for my mom (who totaled her car on Sunday driving it into a parked vehicle while trying to lower her driver's side window) count? Probably not, although it was an extra mile or two of grocery aisles because I'm not familiar with her favorite store.

She's okay, by the way, but the 7 year old Buick was just officially totalled this a.m. Scary thing to be 76 years old and be looking at buying your very first car without a husband or a father to pick one out for you. So we are trying to help her weed through the selection process and sort out the kinds of cars that appeal to her. Anything that is good in snow, good on gas and doesn't look like a tan old person's sedan would work for me. ;)

Actually, I was able to get some unexpected exercise today...they moved one of my meetings to a building on the other side of our site, at the top of the hill. So about 3/4 of a mile to the meeting, uphill, and then back...and it was a glorious day for a walk, so a very nice surprise.

Good Thursdays, everyone!

Gaelen - I'm so glad your mother is okay! But you're right, that would be a scary undertaking at her age !

Today is a 'yes' :).

Good evening, everyone--

Today is a sad day for me. We received news that a former student, currently a junior in college, was killed in a car crash this morning. This is going to be very difficult for our students. We're a small school and a close-knit community.

All of a sudden, car crashes seem to be everywhere. My best friend was broadsided yesterday. She's okay, but her car is probably totaled. And thank God your mother was not hurt, Gaelen.

And now to the daily report...today is a yes for me. I'm grateful for the string of good days. When I was struggling with the plan, it seemed impossible to put just one complete day together. This is such a blessing.

It's off to bed for me.
