NOVEMBER CHALLENGE – FUND RAISING FOR MY HEALTH!

Welcome to November, holiday heaven. :)
This month's challenge is simple: make time to stay on plan!

Each of us has commitments for weeks in advance at this time of year. Some of us are busy outside the home, some busy with family, and some are just busy 24/7!

So this month, let's challenge ourselves to make time--at least 15 minutes every day--to stay on plan.

You can make time in many ways:

starting the daily challenge thread
sharing humor and inspiration in your daily posts
giving feedback to others
making regular entries in your journal that talk about your personal challenges and successes
committing to exercise (you don't have to limit yourself to 15 minutes!)
planning for and trying new recipes
setting aside personal 'me' time every day
sharing your daily menus
committing to packing your lunch regularly
committing to regular family dinner in this time of crazy schedules (again, you're not *limited* to 15 minutes!)

To spread the time commitment among all of us, some of you might want to commit to starting the daily challenge thread on certain days...so please let us know who is in to start the daily thread on Mondays, Tuesdays, weekends, etc?

Now, how do we turn those goals in to a ‘fund raising for our health’? Every day, we choose our pledge (our goal or goals) and keep track of the points (funds) we pledge every day. There are different pledge levels, from the very basic to the ‘leadership circle’ (see below). Our challenge this month is to raise as many health points as we can while accomplishing our goals. The outcome can only be one: a great month staying on plan and making not the easiest but the best choices during the Thanksgiving holiday!

And this month is our preparation for the next one so we can still stay on plan while enjoying the holiday to the fullest with love ones and friends.

That's it, challengers...short and simple...stay true to yourself and your goals by MAKING TIME for yourself. So, let’s pledge and let’s pledge big!!!

Who's in?

Pledge system:

Basic level (10 health points each)

starting the daily challenge
sharing humor and inspiration in your daily posts
sharing your daily menus
sharing your pledge of the day;)

Middle level (50 health points each)

making regular entries in your journal that talk about your personal challenges and successes
planning for and trying new recipes
setting aside personal 'me' time every day
committing to packing your lunch regularly

Leadership level (100 points each)

giving feedback to others
committing to exercise (you don't have to limit yourself to 15 minutes!)
committing to regular family dinner in this time of crazy schedules (again, you're not *limited* to 15 minutes!)

Maximum points that can be accumulated per day: 540 (what if you want to meet all these goals? By all means! ;))

The leadership level, rather than an elite kind of designation, is nothing but a recognition of the effort you put into your own health and the precious time you share with us.

We can combine these goals in any way to meet your personal goals for the day (and to come up with as many health points as we can!:) ) However, let's remember that even the smallest thing will help us, so if tomorrow we can only pledge at the basic level, then let's do that and plan to pledge at the leadership level, say during the weekend, etc. Every little bit counts... a lot of fews make a whole lot!

I am in as well.
I will miss one or two by doing IF but count me in on your "Fund Raiser for Health".

me, too...if I don't devote some time to me each day, especially at this time of year, it's way too easy to get too involved with the things that take me off focus!

Great plan! I'm in. I like that points can be earned by giving to oneself or to others. But in giving to others, we receive the benefits anyway. A double win.

I am in!

I will commit to starting either Mondays or Tuesdays posts if no one else wants those days. I have a vacation scheduled for the very end of November - starting the last Friday of November into first week of Dec. I don't have a calendar handy - so I might miss the last Mo or Tu, if it's alright if I let you know in advance.

I am unclear on something.
Do I pledge daily, or do I just score for doing the activities?
If I have to pledge daily, the "administrative" cost of this challenge are out of whack with return for me.
If I can just do the things, I will be in.

If I pledge to NPR, I get a free mug. What do I score here?

lol...Max. lol I'll bet you can 'just be in' and score accordingly....lol that's my guess. That's my theory too. :o:D

I've beat my HEAD up against the wall for TUPPERWARE and, as of yet, have only recieved from Ottawa "it's in the mail":D .....but......between you and me Max....I don't think it is. :paranoid::crybaby: lol

I'm in, cause if I'm out, then I'll crash and burn over the holidays.:paranoid::frown:

We are skipping Thanksgiving this year!
My GF and I got a room up north at the Superior Shores (http://www.superiorshores.com/) resort...king bed, jacuzzi tub, fireplace (in wall between bedroom and living room so you can enjoy from two areas), full kitchen, deck overlooking Lake Superior, grill on deck...yeah, we're checking in and hanging out until the holiday is OVER!!
There are some GREAT xxsking trails from the resort, but there usually isn't snow yet (please pray for early snow). Otherwise we'll hike at night when the deer take over the paths and you have to either walk through them or wait for them to leave (last time I stayed there we saw 15 deer on our 20 minute walk!)

NICE....

I'm in. Like Amy, if I'm not, it will be too easy to blow the month.

I'm in as well.

I was just thinking about Thanksgiving last night. I've always operated under the idea that I'm allowed a holiday dinner where I can just eat what I want--and you can see where THAT philosophy has gotten me. So this is a new year. I plan to stay on plan (and since I'm hosting the meal, I have a great opportunity to have on-plan foods available.

I can't send it twice. It's too expensive. It must have gone to the wrong Missy in Ohio.

The second time I waited and waited at the restaurant and you never showed. How embarrassing.:(:( Stood up over a box of Tupperware.

I ended up leaving the Tupperware as a tip for my waiter since I used all the money on the meal and the tip on a piece of Carrot Cake since I was broken hearted. I left with a broken heart a carb overload.

I'd say the point is to score yourself, Max...and you can 'pledge' publicly or privately, depending on whether you think you need the group reinforcement to succeed or how strongly you feel you can self-reinforce.

If I pledge to NPR, I get a free mug. What do I score here?

The work is the reward...what you get is feeling better about you.
Another way to look at pledging to another entity--and I'm not advocating not doing that, because I do it--is that when you pledge to NPR you get a $75 mug. It's only valuable if you watch $75 worth of public TV, or if you believe that public TV is for the greater good (and yeah, watch public TV and believe it's in the greater public interest...but I don't pledge for the mug!)
Here, your pledge is your commitment to yourself...and no one can devalue or overinflate that investment, because whatever you put into yourself, you're worth it.

New York public TV, at least WNET, is famously cheap with giveaways. If you look at what you get from say KCRW, NPR Los Angeles, you can actually score goods beyond your donation's cash value.

What I'm suggesting, however, is that planning (pledging) is an activity which consumes time as a resource. If I was going to do the stuff that I pledge to do anyway (like start the AM thread, help people, share experiences, etc), pledging increases my cost, and takes away time from those other things.

But, it's not my challenge. I will follow along.

Same thing happened with my CD. I BELIEVED I was getting a music cd from Max. It must be imaginary. I'll listen to the music in my head.

I won -6 pounds that challenge. I kept on track every day.

The TupperWare thing came from a little quiz (http://proteinpower.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2504)... way back. I hadn't even mentioned a prize when someone asked what they won! Besides ... Missy scored 1 out of 6!!! It was Max and Hawk who got most of the answers.

But ... I do feel a little remiss that someone who has worked so hard did not get a prize.

Missy here are two prizes that require a little effort to get your free Tupperware (http://www.plasticpartyonline.com/free_tupperware.html) online or Tupperware at your home (http://order.tupperware.com/ccm-pdf/holiday07cat_ca_15_host.pdf).:rolleyes::lol:

I'm in, a few days late, and I got a score of 160 today without even knowing about the challenge! Good job, Gabe!
