What? Has nobody started Friday's thread yet?

My thoughts for this morning are how I can use this weekend to prepare for a busy week next week without going off plan. Preparation is always the key. Why not check out new menus? Take some time to explore new areas of the grocery store? I find I always go to the same tried and true food. Nothing wrong with that, but this month is about pledging to do something, so why not something new?

So my pledge for today is to do some research and come up with two new ideas to prepare for next week.

Have a great day, everyone!

Greetings on Friday! I rolled over!!!

I am off to DC today home of George W and Max (in the same sentence can you imagine!!). Group of people are going to a Tapas bar tonight so that will be a small hurdle but really want to use the time to do some networking and not worry about eating...what a grand idea to benefit yourself instead of worrying what you will eat! Tomorrow I am stuck in a room all day reviewing grants, lunch will be brought in, sandwiches no doubt, so I will have to do my best. Tomorrow evening out with family so that will be easy and fun!

Did get all the information at the gym, liking it already, have two free passes to use this weekend with Gabe to determine if it is what we want, but I am thinking oh yeah!

Will not be around until Sunday, hugs to all on Friday!

Good Morning!

Today started with a great start. :-) The bug (spiders) man came to spray. So I had to pick up the clean clothes pile from the floor and realized it was unacceptable. HUGE. So I will be folding laundry today.

Here is a productive and fun day!

I went to the doctor's this morning and she was very pleased with me. I am now at the lowest weight I have been since becoming her patient. And she said I can taper off the blood pressure meds!!!! I am totally psyched today and will be totally on target for the day.

Government efficiency horror story of the day. A few weeks ago, they installed a new, very expensive piece of security software that encrypted EVERYTHING on every hard drive. While they were at it, they also installed a real time virus scanner that eats 100% of one of my dual processor resources, all day. Today, I came to work, turned on my computer, and started a SuDoKu as I waited for it to boot. Usually, I start the puzzle, and do the login steps, and then finish the puzzle. So, computer never got to login, because it was uninstalling the expensive piece of encryption software. I should note, it took 3+ hours to install the thing in early October, then 2+ days to encrypt all my files (before wrecking my browser and encrypting my removable storage to boot). Any rate, from 7-3, it was uninstalling the software package. I was not the only one unable to get into their computer. Some of the customer service people couldn't either.

Any rate, that's why I haven't been on.

Got lots done at work and at home. Set up a "Dawn" machine to cope with the days getting shorter and my sunrise will begin at 6:15 every morning.
Had a talk with co-worker over who's day it was and worked out of the office most of the day. Set up Facebook for the groups I am interested in and made changes to improve service to 2 buildings we support.

Randy, have you used the dawn machine before? Did it help? I'm asking because my husband suffers in the long dark months. And I'm sure you've said before, but do you find Vit D or other supps help?

Sorry for the delay in responding, I've been out most of the day as well as dealing with a flu that went around most of work. I don't take my vitamins regularly until winter. I have the D only since I don't get much sun exposure.
Our shortest day is under 9 hours. Dark when I leave for work and dark when I return.
My wife and I both wanted this unit and I picked up a light source today to plug into the unit. THe unit we got is from Costco and is limited to 200 watts, with two alarms. It is set for a "30 minute dawn" with an audible alarm or radio on the second alarm, an hour later when I should be heading to the shower.

Some people at work go on an antidepressent from December to February, but this seemed an easy alternative.
I would have preferrered a small wall mounted light focused on the ceiling (3*100 watt) but my wife didn't want anything like that in the bedroom :( and I settled for a tall lamp, with a single 150 watt focused on the ceiling over the bed.

Thank you for that, Randy. Our day length is about 9 1/2 hours from sunrise to sunset at the moment. It will be quite a bit shorter by the time we get into December. It doesn't really bother me, but my husband finds it tough. Last year we actually had quite a lot of sunshine, so he did a bit better, but usually, we get a lot of cloudy dark days when it barely seems to get much beyond twilight. Let us know if the lamp helps. I think I'll start feeding him Vit D anyway :).

Speaking of depression during the winter....you know something. Last winter I had noticed a big difference in myself then prior years of winter depression..and I give all the credit to PP eating. I hope to make it a second year of feeling ease through the winter blues.

I don't (necessarily) get depressed during the 'dark days', however I struggle getting up when it's still dark outside.
We have a great setup though.
We each have dressing rooms (small bedrooms that we have turned into rooms where we store our clothes and get dressed). Mine is across the hall from the bedroom and that is where the sun rises, so I set a timer on a reading lamp in there so that the light comes on 5 minutes before the alarm. SOooo, when the alarm goes off, I roll over and see light and I feel like the sun is coming up.

May seem silly, but it REALLY works for me!

That was my main problem as well. On top of the dark, there is the cold and chipping/scraping the ice of the car.

Today was the second day (first workday) and the dawn started at 6:15. I woke briefly and noticed it was barely light and woke again at 6:45 to a bright day and YO Yo Ma (not my choice but it beats the news and it was a compromise). We still don't have snow or ice so I'll face those in December.
