It's 3:30-ish in the morning and my day is nearly over. When it comes to planning meals, working night shift can be a bit of a challenge. Are there others who also deal with an up-side-down time-frame?

I did at one time and had an awful time with it. I felt like I was always out of step with the rest of the world. Now it is my daughter who is working the night shift and she seems okay with it. Of course she isn't doing lo carb so doesn't watch what she eats so there is no issue as far as that is concerned.

I got called into work today. Subbing for Head Start. I enjoy being around the kids still so it will be fun. I have my lunch packed and ready, now if I just remember to take it with me.

See every one later !!

Oh my gosh I forgot the really really big news (well for me at least) I weighed today and was 139 !! Below my goal by a pound. Don't have time to change my weight chart at the bottom, but it will be changed before tomorrow --you can bet on it.

Hey selchie, good morning. I am up alot at 3;30 in the morning but I can't say that I am eating.Usually if I am up at that time of the morning, I am working out so I can sleep again. Welcome to Protien Power! I guess I would pack a lunch the same as I do during the day to take to work. A nice salad with a chicken breast and ranch dressing would be cool. Maybe some cheese sticks with a few turkey pepperoni for a snack.

My friend won the mayoral race here. She won by quite a margin too. She was mayor for 4 years , and lost the last election. I believe people rethought it and decided that they liked her after all. She at least was honest and kept her campaigne promises.

Today is a long work day. Tonight is a sleep test to recalibrate the CPAP. I don't think I'll ever be rid of it, no matter how much weight I lose.I am NOT looking forward to spending the night at the hospital with 25 wires attatched to my body and head and plugged into a computer terminal in the wall. Oxygen clip on my finger...."go to sleep now" riiiiiiiiight.....

I already ate some left over venison stew for breakfast and have a cup of coffee. Lower body weights are under the belt and I am ready to go. I am not supposed to have coffee today, but there is no way I could sleep tonight with the withdrawl headache I would have.

WTG Karole.

I've noticed that, with a little incentive, the thread is always up before I get here. Now, I might be getting around to it later, but still, it's up earlier.

Interesting.

Any rate, the big phone call is today. My reading suggests this is for fit, and behavior questions, which I'm good at. If I get a call back, then we're talking case interviews, which I haven't done in, well, 2 years plus. Will have to get a coach. Sigh. Other than that, not much going on. I'm tightly focused on that, when the call is over, I can move on to other stuff.

Way to go Karole!!! http://img103.exs.cx/img103/101/teamwin4zk.gif Perseverance and attitude pays off!!!

A great Wednesday planned with weight training at lunch and an evening off tonight (no commitments).

Ah, yet another study (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21655204/) against Atkins. What's interesting is that they are saying South Beach and Ornish are fine...just Atkins is bad.

I will exercise today...I will do it over my lunchhour. It may just be 20min on the bike, but it will be SOMETHING!

WTG Karole!

Sorry, one more thing...
Tonight is the night I'm going to The Macaroni Grill with friends.
I have NEVER gone there and been able to ignored the bread...or the pasta dishes!!

BUT, tonight I'm committing to NOT have ANY bread...and I plan to have the Grilled Halibut and asparagus spears (and maybe a salad)!!

Dr. Mike covers that presentation in today's blog entry (http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/) and has some great notes on it.

Selchie,
I used to work shifts, evening, night and rotating but that was before PP. You likely have to do a bit of extra planning since even if you use a cafeteria, etc., choices are less, less is available (corner stores, etc., and you will often be stuck with having to be prepared by bringing your own food.

Here is a sample lunch ... excuse the plug for the fridge (http://youtube.com/watch?v=WEjeyn1juEE). ;-)

Thank you all for the feedback yesterday. I find it incredible- the eating plans that are out there. Interesting. Interesting.

WTG Karole. So Inspiring!

I am having a great day! Oh and yesterday was a PP Day!

Yesterday was a good day. Today is a good day. Up to my neck in budget revision, though!

wtg Karole

good luck Max.

The only way I can start a thread in the early hours is if I specifically plan on it and get up 15 minutes earlier than usual.
I start work at 7 and am not supposed to (and so I don't) use work computer for anything personal. Ever.

Starting the threads motivates me - it makes me think twice before even being slightly tempted:D.

Feeling good, feeling motivated and following through:D

Dr. Mike covers that presentation in today's blog entry (http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/) and has some great notes on it.

Speaking of Dr Mike and his blogs, I read the entry on Kimkins and hairloss (http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/2007/11/02/hair-loss-and-kimkins/) and got TOTALLY caught up in the many articles and blogs during Sept/Oct on her and her 'plan'. I didn't know much about Kimkins except what someone had posted on here months ago...but I can't believe people just let her promote something and never show her face, just ONE after picture. Don't you find that weird?

Anyway, I ended up reading about her and her (possibly) being "outed" for about two hours!! Amazing...

Hi, all--

My first opportunity of the day to sit down and post--does that tell you what kind of a day it was in my classroom today?

I'd probably do great at a night job, Selchie, since I'm a night owl. If you know of any high schools that begin classes at 11:00 . . . :D

Hats off to you, Karole!

Max, hope the interview went as hoped.

I was really rushed this morning, but managed to stir some protein powder into some lemonade on the way out the door. I had already packed lunch, so that was fine. I seem to be able to drink at least some water if it's not really cold. Between that and some herbal tea, I should be able to manage. Until this time around, I've never been consistent at drinking enough--just my usual 4-5 cups of coffee (half-caf) for the day. I am committed to succeeding at the two issues I ignored the last time I did PP--adequate hydration and adequate protein.

Now it's off to my tutoring at the college. Have a great evening.

BTW, what happened to our Wacky Wednesdays?

Hawk, hope you get some sleep tonight.

Thanks everyone, I just got my ticker changed and let me tell you it was a good , no, great, feeling. But this is where I have to tread carefully as I went astray last time when I reached goal and thought I could do it by myself. I know better this go round. I will be sticking to this place like glue.

I am on track for the day, and I am going to go have a relaxing cup of coffee and kick back for a while.

Hubby is out golfing--hey, that's the reason I retired in the first place-- while I was working he was out golfing. Hmmm. I may have to rethink this subbing business--just kidding, I really enjoy it and it gives we something to do every once in a while.

Max, let us know how the interview went and if it sounds like it's the job you want for the future. Good luck all the way.

Karole, I didn't do it straight away, only after I'd regained a few pounds and had to work out what was going wrong, but I found it very useful to increase my daily carb intake a little bit each week (say 10g) and observe the changes. It meant that sometimes I had to eat a few extra carbs just to make the numbers up for the purposes of the test - so I used things like cherries and grapes to make up a few extra if necessary. At the end of each week you check that your weigh, fluid retention blood pressure/blood glucose if they're an issue for you are all OK. If you get a problem with any of them, then you've gone to far and need to drop back a level.

Afterwards, you don't always have to eat that many carbs and, of course, changes in your age/health/activity level can affect the number, but it gives you a good bench mark.

Congratulations again :).

Interview is a punt. Interviewer didn't call. I left him a voicemail. Fear and loathing competing with positive self talk. Positive self talk is winning.

Ack...Max...too bad about the no-call. Maybe though they had a day like mine and simply ran out of hours.
WTG, Karole!
And WTG everyone else for their days so far.

Here's a joke for wacky Wednesday, better late than never:

ATTORNEY: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: Did you check for blood pressure?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: Did you check for breathing?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
WITNESS: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
ATTORNEY: I see, but could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?
WITNESS: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law

When I'm an old lady, I'll live with each kid,
And bring so much happiness...just as they did.
I want to pay back all the joy they've provided.
Returning each deed! Oh, they'll be so excited!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

I'll write on the wall with reds, whites and blues,
And I'll bounce on the furniture...wearing my shoes.
I'll drink! from the carton and then leave it out.
I'll stuff all the toilets and oh, how they'll shout!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

When they're on the phone and just out of reach,
I'll get into things like sugar and bleach.
Oh, they'll snap their fingers and then shake their head,
(When I'm an old lady and live with my k ids)

When they cook dinner and call me to eat,
I'll not eat my green beans or salad or meat,
I'll gag on my okra, spill milk on the table,
And when they get angry...I'll run...if I'm able!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

I'll sit close to the TV, through the channels I'll click,
I'll cross both eyes just to see if they stick.
I'll take off my socks and throw one away,
And play in the mud 'til the end of the day!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

And later in bed, I'll lay back and sigh,
I'll thank God in prayer and then close my eyes.
My kids will look down with a smile slowly creeping,
And say with a groan, "She's so sweet when she's sleeping!"
Bless All Moms and Grandmas Everywhere!

Have a good evening all!!

Glad I posted late, I love whacky Wednesdays!

Karole, Yippie, way to go! Congrats! I know there is a great maintanence group around here to help.

Max, sorry about your interview.

Today, still busy at work. Still waiting for the reinforcements to help us out in our department.

Went off today, just life. dh brought home a Wed night special mexican dinner, which I ate. He truly didn't think that one dinner would hurt. I didn't go off too bad, but this let's me know I am going to start planning dinner meals alittle better, with the crockpot or cooking the entree the night before and reheating or something.

Still exericising, hanging in there. Back on plan tomarrow.

Claudette

P.S. to Sechie, working nights is a challenge but I agree planning your meals and taking them with you is the way to survive.
