Is there any recipe for a low carb party mix? My mother has made this for our family my whole life. Here is a recipe.

1/2 cup bacon fat
1 stick butter
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp celery salt
1 tsp savory
2 tbsp Tabasco
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Mix the above and pour over:
1 cup pecans
1 can peanuts
1/2 box wheat chex
1/2 box rice chex
1/2 box cheerios
1 box pretzel sticks

Toast in oven, 275 degrees for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stirring several times.

I have no idea what the carb percent is but it has to be high.

Do you know of a good recipe or anything that could be made kinda like this that is low carb? I can't think of anything you could put in it other than nuts.

OTOH, I really don't need this type of thing much, since I am back to trying to lose some pounds. And snacks like don't help. I do snack some but find that I eat too much at a time.

I'm going to stick to mixed nuts this year...party mix is too deadly for me!!

I wonder how it would work if you just put the flavor concoction on a bunch of raw mixed nuts ( pecan almonds walnuts, peanuts and cashew come to mind) and baked it--I bet it would work pretty good and you would get the flavor. (wouldn't have the addictive KICK of the original LOL)

I would probably cut the fat portion down a lot, 'cause the nuts won't absorb as much as the cereals do. other than that......

I think I'm gonna try it !

I think it might work! My mother also makes pecans with some kind of butter coating. I'll have to ask how she does it.

I do pecans with butter and splenda--real yummy; kinda takes the plae of cookies AND candy on a day to day basis.

4 cups pecans
1/2 stick of butter ( or maybe more if it seems too dry)
2 teaspoons maple flavor
24 drops of sweetzfree sweetener ( equal to 24 packets splenda) or to taste

melt butter in a large skillet. add flavoring and splenda. add pecans and stir to coat and then stir over medium heat for 10 min or so to toast the nuts. be careful not to burn the nuts--tastes gross if you do! allow to cool (if you can wait :D ) and eat!
