Good morning,
... so I blew it last night after a perfect almost 3 weeks with moderate weight loss. stepped on the scale, did not like what i saw and .... ate carbs...a LOT. i am really mad at myself and normally when i get like this i eat... carbs.. so me being here and writing about this is better then shoving sweets down my throat. i have no patience with me and how fast i want the weight to come off. i am down about 6 pounds in 3 weeks and i guess i just thought it would come off faster . i do have to admit that i do NOT excersise at all. i am embarrassed to say this.. but i hate excersing. just trying to find time to do it... i know.. just an excuse. so, thank for listening and letting me vent. I am just so disappointed in myself right now because me dang compusion to overeat on carbs has taken me over yet one more time. I do feel that the carb eating is an addiction of some shape or form and my lack of self discipline does not help either. Well thanks again for listening.:(:(:(:(:(

Anette, we have all been there! The biggest losers here have been there! What makes the difference is that those who are successful realize that we are human, that things like that do happen but they get right back on it, which is EXACTLY what you will do right? I knew it!
Isn't it interesting that we go back to the very habits that are actually killing us, that is how hard it is to break some addictions, and I personally believe that we eat emotionally or through hard times whatever because we have some sort of reasoning in our little minds that carbs can soothe things for us. We know better, we know how rotten we feel how devastating it is to our system.
6 lbs huh! Well celebrate those 6 lbs! Where would you have been without those 6 lbs? You made it through a holiday with 6 lbs less, I would call that a MAJOR accomplishment. Sure we would all like to lose weight faster, but you know the body gives up what it will, they only thing we can do is stick with it, and keep on, it will pay off in so many ways. And while perhaps you are down only 6 lbs in your book, what about your body? What about your BP and cholestrol and all those things we can measure on a scale? hmmmmmmmm!!!
You are doing just fine, you are human, but 6 lbs less of you!
Keep it up!!

Billie,
thanks so much for your comment. Yes, I am back on track and more determined then ever to make "less" of me and I am doing this for me and noone else. It helps me tremendously to have been on this forum and I am grateful for all the support. So thanks so everyone. To be honest, I have always had very good cholesterol and BP numbers despite the fact that i am very overweight. I am trying not to look at all the weight i want to get rid of but take it in small steps. well i am planning to stick to PP and have to me more patient with me because i did not gain the weight over night right? thanks again for all your support.:)

Anette, that is why this forum is here, so you are welcome and just to keep you on your toes, because you have always had good cholestrol and BP, if we keep on our disastrous ways of eating, it won't be long until those are effected as well. So good for you to be proactive now!!
Yes you better keep at it!!!!

Anette, weight loss is a fickle measure of progress for some of us. We talk of "wooshes" where we wait and wait and wait, not noticing our bodies are making little adjustments here and there, and suddenly there's a few pounds less on the scale! If you focus exclusively on weight loss, you're missing half the fun! :D
The carb addiction can be overcome, too. Have hope!

thanks to all of you. I got a question (AGAIN):D but i am fairly new to PP. can i always deduct the fibre count from any food in order to get ECC? or does it have to have a certain amount of fibre before i can deduct it? my son is Type 1 insulin dep. diabetic and in order for him to deduct the fibre from the total carb count, the food has to have at least 5 gr of fibre per serving. thanks for clarifying this for me.

Deduct from everything Anette, and remember there are hidden carbs in so many foods, especially processed or bottled or watch when eating out.
You can do it!

Anette,
I feel like I am your twin sister. I started PP Nov 2.. Newbie here. This is my fiorst post to you. Have seen other messages with your name and just wantedto write and encourage you. I made PP a way of life 4 years ago, lost lbs dropped clothes size..and like many, gained it back. BUt What I found to be helpfull is that stepping on the scale is discouraging in itself. You may not see the scale drop but your clothes will show you losing inches. I am not allowing the scale to defeat me. I can feel the difference and see it when I put on my jeans, etc. I lost 14 lbs in 4 weeks. Thanksgiving Day was empowering to me. I woke up in the am thinking this will be a hard day for me. But what I found was that after the family ate, dishes done, all those sweet potatoes and stuffing tucked in the fridge and I hadnt touched any, I FELT SO POWERFUL.. I had made it thru the day! And my mom makes the best stuffing. And when I think, 4 years ago, I was so close to reaching my goal weight, if I would have kept up with the PP, how I would look and feel today. I am back, feeling good .. so when ya slip up, just jump right back.. don't let 4 years slip away.. :) I've got a road ahead of me... and you aren't alone !!
Your friend .

Anette-- All of the above is true. We have all been there, so there's no shame in slipping up. What you'll find is that the longer you work the program, the less desire you'll have for those foods. For me, if I'm not eating sugar, I don't want it. What will send me over the edge is just allowing small cheats, because I want more and more. I'm also one of those with a very long road ahead. If I focus on that, I will give up. I can only focus on what is right ahead of me. When I put on a shirt that was too small and it fits, or I sit in a chair that was tight and it isn't--those little rewards do more for me than the scale does. Often the scale isn't moving, but those small changes still happen, and then eventually the scale does move. Keep up the good work--don't let this derail you!

I agree with the good advice and insights above and want to let you know another helpful technique if you are one of us that get overwhelmed by the carbs.
It is called NEAN and stands for Not Even A Nibble. If we refuse to put that first bite in our mouth then we can't ever fall face first into a carbage pile and consume it. It really, really works for me, and maybe will for you too.
Always remember that you are in control of what goes in your mouth so when tempted to take that first bite of something that will cause you to over do, just say "not even a nibble" and grab something that will alleviate the cravings not exerbate them (try to have something on hand always). As I said it really worked for me. I generally have a square of Lindt 85% chocolate on hand and eat it very slowly. (Wonderful when melting on your tongue ummmm) It always does the trick for me and I have always hated dark chocolate. My dh and friends eat ice cream and sundaes and root beer floats in front of me and it doesn't bother me a bit. In fact one little square lasts longer than their sundaes do because I savor every bit of the flavor.
On the issue of the scale-- I am a dyed in the wool scaleaholic so when I first started out I hid my scale away in some inconvenient place only to weigh in at the first of each month and report changes. No discouraging up and down cycles that way. I lost 8 pounds that month and was thrilled to death as I am older and it is harder for some of us to lose weight as we age. Anyway, perhaps try putting the scale away for a certain period of time so you can break its stranglehold on your emotions. I understand all too well the disappointment of no loss or even a gain when you have done everything just right. We all want that instant reward, but sometimes the old bod just has to adjust.
Hope to have helped, wish you the very best. Keep on keepin' on !!

Just get back on the wagon again! You can do it!
With regard to excercise, I HATE it. I HATE the Gym, I HATE running etc etc etc. :) BORING!!
However, what I do like is being outdoors, so I have got myself an allotment. I don't know if they do these in the states, but you probably have larger gardens than us in the UK? I have a small patch of land that I rent for £10 a year through the local council and it is my 'Green Gym'.
Digging, lugging water and tons of manure sure as hell burns some calories, and on my first stint of 'shit shovelling' I ached for a week! It feels good though, as in the spring I will have my own, pesticide free veg to eat and always something active to do with my family. Horseriding is great excercise too and also lots of fun (unless you fall off that's not so fun!)
If you have a dog, walk it loads! I watched a study on TV the other week where they got two identical twins and had one run a mile and one walk briskly for a mile. the one who walked burned the most calories and had less stress on the joints.
Good luck!!!

I love weighing myself because I think of it as one tool for measuring the science experiment. However, short term use (i.e. weighing yourself at night and comparing to the previous night or the morning) is a terrible indicator of long term progress.
It is long term progress you want, right? The goal is to lose 10 pounds or 30 pounds of 100 pounds? The goal is not to lose a certain number of ounces each day - that just isn't how bodies work.
Good for you for getting right back into good eating. We all have fallen, and the victory is in the getting back up.
Horseriding is great excercise too and also lots of fun
Really?? I had NO idea!!
