Our forecast for a dusting to 2" of snow made me think about "snow jokes."
What happened when the snowgirl fell out with the snowboy ?
She gave him the cold shoulder !
What do snowmen wear on their heads ?
Ice caps !
What do snowmen eat for lunch ?
Icebergers !
Where do snowmen go to dance ?
Snowballs !
How do snowmen travel around ?
By iceicle !
What sort of ball doesn't bounce ?
A snowball !
How do you know when there is a snowman in your bed?
You wake up wet !
What do you get if cross a snowman and a shark ?
Frost bite !
How do you call an Eskimo cow ?
An Eskimoo !
Just enough snow around here to get us an early dismissal. I know, Amy, it sounds ridiculous. Being from the Dakotas and Minnesota myself, I used to laugh at the local panic over a few flakes--until I tried driving on the roads around here. They are indeed treacherous, and nobody seems to know how to drive on them. I'm not as afraid of the snow as I am the other drivers.
Have a great Wacky Wednesday!
We got 5 inches here so far in the snow belt. Lake effect off Lake Michigan. Gotta shovel out to go to work. Lots of snow"flakes" out there today. Still snowing.
2" and your schools let out??
Wow...
In Iowa, we had to get 2inches of ICE before they would THINK of delaying the start or letting us out 1hr early...thenif you were in town, you still had to be there on time...just the people that rode busses could be late!
In Minnesota lat night, we added 4 inches to our previous 5 inches, and we're getting 2 more tomorrow...:D...Even after doing all the shoveling yesterday (we live on the corner, so I have two LOOOOOOOOONG sidewalks, a big driveway, and our inner-yard sidewalks to do) I still love it and am really looking forward to getting on my cross-country skiis this weekend! I'm super busy, but it's worth getting up in the dark to be skiing when the sun comes up!!
My inspiration today is that people around these parts are much kinder in this kind of weather. People slow down around corners so they don't splash pedestrians, everyone drives the same pace and allow other cars space and time to enter from side streets. People help push cars over the snowbanks they're stuck on when one street is plowed and the street they are entering is not (creates a "bank" so the cars get stuck). People snowblow everyone's sidewalks if their snowblower works well, or help their neighbor shovel our their "plowed in" car...
Just a general sense of kindness and helping from most people.
That is my inspiration today.

We've been having milder winters for the last quarter-century. The main reason for school closings is ice any more. Snow doesn't hardly do it. It would have to be several inches accompanied by high winds and ice.
The day I got married was the fourth blizzard of the month with an ice storm just before the big day. None of our guests ever forgot it. We had to call the county to plow the road so people could get out and go home. The band never made it.
I've just been interrupted from munching my salad and posting by a teacher who "just wanted a quick question" and stayed for a half hour. Now I'm finishing my lunch. My timestudy report is going to look weird!
Funny, Carol!
My parents were married on December 30th (who gets married in South Dakota on Dec 30th???) and (surprise) there was a blizzard.
They ended their wedding dance very early.
Dad spent his wedding night getting his wedding attenders out of ditches and home!
Mom spent it with her brand new mother-in-law at home worrying!
They didn't see each other again until the sun came up the next day!

My parents chose 15th Feb for their wedding. By the end of the day my mother's long white dress was covered in mud up to her knees. They're all standing under umbrellas in the wedding photos.

Lots of snow here, and fairly early for it. The banks beside our driveway are already shoulder height, so this is going to be a painful winter for shoulder and back.
My inspiration for today: a cartoon I once saw, with a bunny holding up two snowpeople, with a hair dryer in place of a gun. The snowwoman is saying "It isn't worth it - just give him your nose."
Always makes me laugh when I think of it.
All the best, Wendy

Mine was at the end of January, when there was traditionally a "January thaw" but not that year. Of course! The hem of my gown was pretty much ruined with mud.
The best man (second choice, because the real one was snowbound up north) loaded all of our (unopened) gifts into the back of his big pickup truck and we followed his taillights back into town at 10PM. Less than half the guests were able to make the reception but they ate pretty much all of the food. The bar bill was negligible because everyone was worried about the trip home. Don't even ask about the photography! Despite all of the quirks, we're very firmly married. :D
Sorry for taking this thread off-topic. I shall finish up by saying I had a protein shake for breakfast and a chicken/bacon salad with bleu cheese dressing for lunch. Dinner is likely to be something with sausage.
Do you know that Canada was named in a random drawing? The Prime Minister drew letters from a bowl on his desk. (bear with me, Randy!) The first letter he drew was a C. He held it up over his head so everone could see it and cried out "C, eh?" The next letter was an N, and he did the same, crying out "N, eh?" The next draw brought out the letter D. That's when they quit, so C eh N eh and D eh spells Canada!

As predicted, we're out at 1:00 with maybe 2" on the ground. Of course, I have to stick around until all the kids' buses leave or their parents pick them up.
I remember one winter in South Dakota (Huron) when the cars had to put flags on their antennas to be seen over the snowbanks. And it was a real treat (back in the 60's) climbing over the snowbanks on every corner as I walked the 15 blocks to school in a skirt.
There are fender benders all over the place, including one on a road I usually take to go home--guess I won't be going that way today.

Amy-- Down four of your twelve pounds already! Way to go!!
Our Schools had a 2 hour delay to plow the roads. The snow was coming down heaviest during the very early morning. I made it out the driveway after two tries. My driveway comes down toward my house, so I have to get a running start to leave. The last house we had, the driveway was so steep , I could not get into it , or when I left, I was afraid of flying across the road into the wooded reviene accross the street.

Glad you made it out, Hawk. We have a two-hour delay tomorrow morning. It is quite slick out there now.

Thanks!!! I'm still dropping daily...but I fear it won't last:(!!
My body WANTS to be at 204, so when I'm not there (higher or lower) it can move very quickly back to that weight!
