Has anyone attempted to mix Byetta with a protein power / low car diet? I am beginning to believe that byetta requires a diet of carbs to work. I retained water (edema) was dizzy, nauseous, light headed, disorientated, and chilled since I switched to a strict protein power diet with almost no carbs.
I discontinued the byetta and those problems have either ended or are much less than before. I would like to continue on the diet but my blood sugar readings are creeping back up. Any thoughts?
Also how do you find a doctor that will support you in attempting to control your blood sugar without the side effects of the meds?
I would appreciate any and all thoughts.

Harry, I just showed my doctor that my readings were consistantly in the normal range and ask him if I could drop the meds. I was having hypos because of them. He tapered me off in three months. I do pick up a low dose again during periods of high stress, which I notice when the morning numbers creep up.
I don't know what Byetta is. I'll google it.

My brother is on Byetta. The difficulty is that he has to eat within a half hour of taking it and there is a very small window of time when he has any appetite. He doesn't attempt to do low carb--that's another whole issue because he thinks it's just some strange way I eat.
I'm concerned because he has had a couple of low bs episodes this week and I think he's not eating enough to counteract the Byetta.
Any feedback would be welcome from those with experience with it. I'd like to be able to help my brother, but I know he has to be the one committed to it.

I am not yet at a pace were my blood glucose readings are within the normal range. I have been on the Protein Power diet for about 3 weeks now and hopefully over the next 3 to 4 weeks I will see them level out and drop. I know blood glucose readings are based upon two areas: your diet and your liver. In the diet arena I am almost no carbs but how can you correct your liver?

Harry, I usually have a blood test every three months. At the end of the first three months, he cut my Actos in half. Next test he discontinued it entirely. That was just from eating around 30 to 40 ecc per day and sufficient protein according to the Eades' recommendations. I also made improvents in cholesterol and triglycerides. Blood pressure improved more gradually, although I'm still taking a med for that. Oh, and I lost a chunk of weight, too.
As I understand it, (and I don't have time to look it up right now) stress induces the liver to produce cortisol, which affects blood sugar. Stress can be treated in many ways. Exercise has a wonderful effect on it. Meditation reduces stress. I have to say periods of stress are my biggest hurdle in this way of eating. I have other physical issues that sometimes work against me, too.
Someone will undoubtedly come along with a more technical explanation soon. I'm a fairly un-technical person. ;)

I'n on Byetta and also doing Atkins. I've noticed no problem at all. Doc told me that Byetta might suppress my appetite when i started it a year or so ago but NOTHING suppresses my appetite. Da wifey is such a good cook she ruins everything!!!!
If I am not strictly cutting carbs, my blood sugar is not controlled with the Byetta and sanda something, shoot, forget its name. Proper low carb diet is the only thing than can get me under a 100 or even in low 100's.
But no I note no other side affects. I will say I have gone on and off strict Atkins induction over the last 4-5 years and this time since being on Byetta, the weight does not seem to be coming off as fast.
hmmmmm, just noticed ya'lls posts were over a month ago -- guess this forum is not too active........*
