Hi! I'm an aging Baby Boomer who's been dieting since she was 13 (when I wasn't fat, but that's another story; Dear Mom thought I was). I've tried low carb twice, both successfully, when I had much less to lose and was much younger. Both times I got close to goal, but didn't have the staying power to stick to it. Starting about 12 years ago, I began to gain 5 pounds a year and didn't take it off. I've been bouncing back and forth among diets -- WW, Atkins, PP (once, about 5 years ago; worked, too!) -- Suzanne Sommers, Diet-to-Go, etc. etc. etc. I'll start Atkins, last about three days, go back to WW, last for two weeks -- and do well -- then realize that my entire shopping basket is filled with bread, crackers, potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc. and what good are they without butter? :)
I know PP's science is sound, I know it works. I just have to do it. I'm starting again tomorrow. Got the food, got the plan, it's just doing it.

Repeat after me ...
IT IS NOT A DIET!!:p
Welcome aboard, hope you can really appreciate all the great things a PP lifestyle brings (weight loss is the least of it) and you will soon be in a position where you wouldn't even think about eating any other way.:)

Hey, Bloomer...were you channeling me from, oh...1969 through 2002? ;)
I wasn't fat...but I wasn't Twiggy, either, in an age when looking like Twiggy and Mary Quant was everything. I was five feet tall and weighed 118 at 20, and on me, second base was a visible target! It's taken me 30 years to learn that there's a difference between curvy and fat. ;)
Welcome aboard!

Hi, Bloomer! Welcome home!
I've been up and down a few times myself. Down was always low carb. You'd think it would be a no-brainer, eh? Malcom, I think I'm in that position now. At least I dearly hope so!
Excellent point, BC.

Malcom is so right, it is not a diet...repeat that about a million times.
It is about changing your life style, about making choices that are healthy. What matters is not how fast you lose weight, what matters is how metabolically you are changing. The weight will come off and we can encourage, support or whip you into shape, but it really is about that mind set change.
Welcome aboard, great people here, join us often!

Thanks to all of you for the very kind, warm welcomes!
I know that it's not a diet -- and one of the attractions is just that, that this is the healthy way to eat, that there are benefits far beyond weight loss, and that ideally, although a few foods can be added down the road, this is the way I should eat for the rest of my life. Easy to say :)
I THINK I've seriously committed -- I really do. I'll look forward to talking with you and I will need the support. What I've definitely committed to is keeping an honest food journal whether or not I'm "perfect" for at least 30 days. There's no journals section here, or I've missed it. Do you have a menu thread? I have a paper diary, but there's nothing like humiliating yourself in public to keep you honest :)
Off to check out your recipes....

Bloomer...check for a daily menu thread in the CHALLENGES forum. You'll see threads that say something like "Daily Menu, xxxday, month, date." We're all in different stages of the program, so not everyone journals publically. And since we're in all kinds of different timezones from the UK and Europe across the Americas and over to Australia/New Zealand, we're all active on the board at different times of day...so if you don't see a menu thread for the day when you log in, jump in and start one in the Challenges forum.

Thanks! I did see those, but thought they were for advanced, long-term PPers fighting in some cosmic challenge :) I find it very helpful to read others' menus for ideas, and to see how people find the rhythm of the program, so I hope lots of people will post their menus!

omigod...'advanced PPers fighting in some cosmis challenge' is a visual that may keep me up all night! :D
OTOH, you give some of us light sabers and set us loose on the world and, well...who knows what will happen. Shadow's alias is 'warrior princess,' Gaelen was a Celtic priestess/queen and the stories just go on and on!
Nothing cosmic in our challenges...just us, figuring out us. ;)

meant to say "cosmic challenge," of course. :)

BLoomer, just making yourself feel at home is important. This is a large board to navigate but it was designed to that there would be something for everyone. More important than the board are the friends and support you will come to find.
Let us know how we can help you!
