is a book I just recieved after wondering about the effects on leptin resistance on my body. I think it's a very good book as far as explaining what leptin resistance is...especially for me.

I've always grown frustrated as to "why" my body seems to hang on for dear life of my weight. NOW, for the first time, I believe I learned why!

Not to mention the connection of my hormonal issues and how they relate to leptin.

Here's a link to the author's of this book:

Not only am I insulin resistant, but more importantly leptin resistant. And, this book explained to me that in the past...my half hearted attempts to lose weight failed because I'd not be on top of keeping those darn carbs at bay...and if I'd have "some" success...I'd ease up and "treat" myself with the wrong food choices...and that would interfer with my body's sensitivity to insulin and leptin doing it's proper thing...therefore, I'd get frustrated and eventually fall off the wagon and therefore feel very much like a "failure" :( . It mentions in this book that the sugar spike of that "treat" wasn't just a "momentary" thing...but that it could effect my body's function for several days.

In all, this book was filled with interesting information that before I didn't know "why"...and now I think I have a much better understanding of what I was doing wrong. I hope so anyways. I truely wish to get to the bottom of this...and now, along with PP woe..and understanding things more clearly I think I have the best chance ever of navigating myself to where I want to go, and get there with confidence!

This board has been truely helpful...so much information (some quite technical) and leads to other places! Thank you for that! :D

Has anyone else read this book?

I read it and liked it a lot too. It's the first controlled carb book I read that talked about how high protein and sat fat can contribute to insulin resistance (higher levels than the PP minimum I mean) and also the chapters on what the hormones are doing in the brain are cool.

Also made me feel better about hating snacks. I like longer times between meals anyway. And not eating after dinner so I can have a nice long overnight fast.

It really feels great

I'm going to take this book along with me over the weekend while camping and reread it so I get it more clearly. As well as taking the two books I have PP and PPLP to try and continue "connecting the dots" so to speak. I'm so enthused about this all...and for more reasons now then just the "weight" loss aspect of it. I feel like it's all starting to click for me.

Interesting how leptin resistance, insulin resistance, and adrenal's effect one another. I can look back and see how major stress in my life helped me achieve this whole hormone problem and resistance and how interconnected they are! Good book!

I finally feel like I have answers to many questions I didn't know where to turn for help! What a relief!

I think the most benefit I got from this book is primarily what the real effects of cheating were costing me...and how that is how it effected my chances of continued success....not that it effects everyone that way??? But, for me, I feel as though I'm extra sensitive and therefore must be more vigilant.

Laughing W (if your happen to see this) ~ I reread this book over the weekend, while we went camping.

OH MY WORD!!! I believe that I could be the POSTER CHILD for this book!!!! :D

It is so jamb packed with helpful information! Stuff I've been wondering, thinking and now I KNOW for certain how the biochemistry works, not only WHY I gained, why I'm pre diabetic, why my thyroid, perimenopause, and have over all adrenial issues, and why it was hard for me to lose in the past! I am sooooooo thrilled!!!

I mean, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know "how" one gains weight.. ....but learning about the fact that one can be essentically in "starvation"...and have a "starvation metabolism" despite being massively overweight was a real eye opener! Your brain is just not getting the message that you have stored energy...so it's constantly sending you the signal to eat more. Interesting.

This book clearly explains this in such detail for me to understand!

It is a MUST READ for anyone with insulin resistance, fibromyalgia, perimenopause, menopause, heart disease, thryoid, addiction...and on and on.

Reading it I have to say is going to change my life. :D

I began this weekend in earnest to apply the "five rules" of this way to master "leptin" along with the eating requirements of PP...and it's "tipped" me over the edge into fat burning mode! :D I've been waiting patiently since being in this plan on the 10th of April...and dispite doing things "correctly" according to PP I kept bobbing around a two pound loss...now, by adding these "five rules" I'm seeing/feeling myself kick into that fat burning mode! :D

The one that I'm most focused on right now is to not eat after dinner. You mentioned how good it feels to have that fasting feeling....and I believe that it's what is directly responsibly for me to get my metabolism running. I don't know if I can go without snacking...but I'm willing to give these rules a try to get myself on a roll. It's too early for me to feel comfortable to stray too far to see if I can handle anymore carbs..and/or snack...but I want to get well on my "way" so to speak before I start tweaking.

This book I believe is a bit more higher carb in it's suggestion...but I can easily ignore that for me in my situation...for now that is.

What an eye opening book!!! :D
