"Take Five"
Meditations for Women
Many people in the April challenge talked about talking some time for themselves, doing something for them, I think that is so important! And all of us can Take Five sometime during the day today--or better yet 10 or 20!. Taking the time to breathe, to enjoy, to rest, to recharge--you know there isn't anything wrong with that at all. Take a nap, go for a leisurely walk, pick some wild flowers, listen to some good jazz, have a cup of tea---take time to take five today!
Have a great one!

Now *this* I can do...I 'took five' with the Sunday paper this morning, relaxing with a cup of freshly ground coffee and the hometown, travel and arts sections that I just love to read while I snuggled (suddenly it went from trying to be spring to thinking about being winter again!) Thanks for the reminder, Billie, and good Sundays, everyone!
I "took five" by sleeping later than I needed to for what the day needed to accomplish! And now I'm computering a bit! I love computering!!
Hugs, everyone!!

Hi,
I'm new to Protein Power, and not very adept at message boards yet, but I have a question about my minimum protein requirement. The two books I have right now are Protein Power and The 30-day Low-Carb Solution. I looked at the charts in The 30-day book to find my protein and for my height and weight which are 5' 9 1/2" and 255 lbs. female, and it indicated 6 ounces protein per meal. So, I have been following that for a week while I have been reading the more detailed Protein Power.
I finally decided to do all of the equations in Protein Power just to make sure they were the same. It was drastically different;the calculations indicated that I only needed 3 ounces per meal. Is there an explanation for this discrepancy? Also, the weight range the calculations seemed lower than I expected and is lower than most height weight charts for me.
I compared the 3 ounces/meal to the chart in the 30-Day book and for a female my height it wasn't even an option for me at any weight.
I have continued to follow the 6 ounces/ meal, and am feeling smaller.
Thank you, Audreyjane

Welcome Audrey Jane first of all! don't be shy about the message board, we were all there once too! I can't imagine how you got 3 ounces per meal of protein, that equates to only 54 a day, that is too low, ther 6 ounces a meal is much better.
When you followed the book, did you do the measurements of the hip and stomach area, and look at the chart for fitness, how much you do or not? If you would like to meail me or place all those measurements here, we would be happy to figure that out for you, and personalize your protein needs, no problem.
And how are you doing? Is the program coming along, are you understanding about carbs and protein and your body needs? Read alot of the forums, there's so much here, and just don't be shy at all, great people surround you!

Welcome to the board :).
The calculation in Protein Power is more accurate than the PPLP chart, since it is based on your actual lean body mass and activity level rather than an average for someone of your height and weight.
If both the protein requirement and the target weights are turning out very low, then it suggests that either you have a smaller than average lean body mass for your height (small boned, not especially muscular) or something has gone wrong in the calculation. If you are small-framed, then the numbers could well be right, but if you aren't, I'd check your measurements and redo the calculations (or ask someone else to double check it - I'd be happy to do it, and you could use the Personal Message facility if you don't want to post your measurements in public).
The 3oz per meal does sound low for someone of your height - I'm around that level at 5' 2".

Welcome, Audreyjane! We were all new here at one time or another, so please don't let that stop you from posting :). As for the protein, I think your calculations must be off somewhere. I am 5'5" and my minimum is 27/meal or 81/day. Since I am at my goal weight, my need would be less than yours since you have some weight to lose. I think having someone recalculate for you might be a good idea ;).

I won't be able to "Take Five" on a Sunday for the next several weeks... this time of year is even busier than Christmas for year-end concerts. Fortunately I am able to keep my Mondays pretty clear, but somehow being lazy on a Monday lacks the charm of curling up with the Sunday paper!
