http://www.proteinpower.com/forum/images/icons/icon11.gif Trying PP again.....cossing fingers
I am a new member and I am just restarting the PP plan again. My hubbie and I both lost 25 lbs:p approx. 6 years ago using the PP and we have loosely incorporated this into our lifestyle. Unfortunately I had fallen off the wagon and recently hit a brick wall when I have started going through an early menopause:eek: . My metabolism has ground to a stop and I gain weight by looking at it. Unfortunately I do not just "look" and am addicted to carbs especially chocolate and sweets!! I am 20 lbs overweight with a family history of metabolic syndrome and Diabetes type 2. My husband is very much onboard and doing well with the plan. A few years ago I tried the Phase 1  and didn't get the same results that I did previously (lost 25 lbs in 2 1/2 months). Would welcome any suggestions. Today is my start day....wish me luck. {heading downstairs to the eliptical machine} Thanks in advance
Glenda:D

Glenda - Welcome and good luck :). If you have any questions, please let us know. You may find this time around a bit more of a challenge - but it can still be done.

Glenda:

I am new here too. I am in pre-menopause and my weight loss has completely stalled. So good luck, I do think that watching carbs is the way to go.

Welcome! You will probably find the weight will not come off very fast even in the beginning of the Intervention stage, but if you can "gut through" the first few days your cravings for sweets will diminish. The trick is not giving in, so make sure you have plenty of snacks around that are PP friendly. I've fallen off the wagon the past few weeks and am climbing back on myself, something I've done numerous times. But I know this WOE works to help keep my blood sugars even and cholesterol down, so even thought the weight loss is very slow, it's all worth it! :)

Hi Glenda!

I'm a newbie too! I'm ahead of you by a few weeks in getting started...only this woe is entirely new to me...and this board has been invaluable!

Welcome aboard! :D

I'm new to this Board, too.
I've been doing LC (Atkins) since Sept 2003, so don't know much about PP, but wish you well in your journey, anyway

Thanks for the Warm welcome:p !!!! I have made it through 2 full days with keeping my carbs at 30 gms. Work is a real challenge because pt's families constantly give us high carb food......it's everywhere!! I'm proud that I haven't even touched the chocolate . I think it will be alot easier this time keeping to "The Plan" especially with this tremendous support site. From past experience I know the 1st 2 weeks are the hardest and you'll probably get very sick of me on this site .
Good luck to all
Cheers
Glenda

Hi Glenda! Welcome, and what a great start! (I don't know that I could have resisted the chocolate, so I'm doubly impressed)

Keep up the good work,
Miralin

I am also new to this pp as well as the forum. i have been on pp for 10 days now and think i have been doing pretty good (except for the chocolate cravings :o ) i am a shake for breakfast girl, meat and cheese assortment for lunch and the same only smaller for dinner. my question is .. what is everyones take on the "net carbs" on all the new labels? now we subtract fiber, sugar alcohol and the others?? is it better to stick with carbs-fiber ? is this a more realstic ## ???

Welcome, ontheroxx. ;) I managed my chocolate cravings by creating a cinnamon hazelnut mocha protein shake (using chocolate shake powder and coffee) and 9 days out of 10, taking care of the chocolate hit first thing settles it down for the rest of the day.

I try to stick to the Eades' recommendations...subtract fiber from total carbohydrates (as long as the food label hasn't already done that.) You'll know if:
(total carbs minus fiber grams) times 4
+ protein grams times 4
+ fat grams times 9
---------------------------------------
equals the total calories listed for one portion

If there's a discrepancy between the carbs - fiber, protein and fat grams, the item may contain carb grams that have been rounded, or the manufacturer may have subtracted the fiber already and altered the total calories to match that.

HI again to everyone!!:)
today was a real challenge!! A doctor brought 2 big containers of Whoppers.... strawberry and chocolate the ICU doc bought 2 large pizzas for the nurses for the 2nd day in a row.....plus someone else brought in a big tri-container with different kinds of popcorn including caramel!!!! :o There is also a fridge with 1/2 full boxes of chocolates from patient's families....AAARRRGGGHHH. It was super hard not to eat any....I grabbed a glass of water every time I wanted some...{spent half my shift in the BR..LOL}
I made a great tasting smoothie this am...with 1/3 cup of plain yoghurt, 1/3 cup of cottage cheese, scoop of protein powder (16 gr PRO), few frozen berries, and just a sprinkle of crystal light strawberry powder. Boy was it yummy and filling!!! :p Thanks for the ideas PP forum.
I've lost 3 pounds.......{eek...not that I'm looking at the scale...:eek: }

Glenda, it was always hard for me to 'resist' the work goodies, too. But if you stick to your guns, and don't indulge, it WILL get easier as time goes by. And the glass of water over temptation is a great idea; WTG!

 It's hard to keep from looking, isn't it? I've known people who keep their scale in the trunk of their car because it had so much power over the way they felt.

My morning shake is a lot like yours. Gaelen's recipe reminded me I haven't had a chocolate one in a while. Maybe tomorrow! I really like mocha too. Sometimes a shot of hazelnut davinci lc syrup goes good with chocolate or coffee.

Thanks Gaelen and Carol !!!
The Mocha shake recipe does look good. I'll have to try that one! I remember when I was in PP phase 1 , 5 years ago, I got so discouraged because nothing was happening during the 1st 2 weeks. I persevered and wow I was dropping weight like crazy after that. Now that I am very close to postmenopause (early runs in my family...I am 42) how long does it usually take before your metabolism kicks in?? I haven't increased my exercise yet....I'm waiting til after the 1st week,,,,but I will be trying that too......by the way....I've noticed that my "flashes have decreased over the last 4 days. Does the Plan decrease meno symptoms too?

GlendaK, when you're peri-menopausal (pre, during or post 'change'), your metabolism and hormones are on their own timeclock. Everyone is going to have a different 'kick-in' point or trigger, and convincing your body that yes, you're really serious and it should stop arguing with you can be an on-going discussion. ;) But persevering is the way to go...Protein Power didn't exactly decrease my symptoms, but staying on plan did give my body the combination of metabolic healing materials (protein, water, healthy fats, carb control and exercise) that it needed to rebuild while my hormones figured out what game they were playing.

Hope that helps...hang in there!
