Hm. Maybe I should try a vinegar/cinnamon combo with some veggies....

Interesting...I thought it was an old wives tale. Must be something to it.

I am going to end up gargling with cinnamon, CLA, fish oil, cayenne and cinnamon every morning. I just know it.

Just put it all in your shake! ;)

But you'd have to swallow it for it to work! Ugh! :p

I'm going to the city on Friday, so will pick up some Braggs and try an experiment on myself to see if this really works. My blood sugars are still a bit above normal as measured by the new glucometer I have (phooie!--my new scale also weighs me more!) Check back next week to see this guinea pig at work! :)

BC, I think I shall join you with the Bragg's... but, how are you going to tell if it works??? I mean, I'm on day three of "clean eating", and plan to continue. My bs levels are coming down, but... am I expected to have how much of a drop to prove the Bragg's?
Any thoughts??? ;)

What is Bragg's? It's already served some useful function, because it made me read the original link that Viking Dan posted. And, while weight loss isn't a requirement for me any more, I'm still conscious that even a few too many carbs at lunch makes me sleepy in the afternoon and crash before dinner, so my sugar metabolism is clearly still rather ropy. I wondered whether the fermented foods the WAP people recommend would serve the same function - beet kvass, sauerkraut &c. I'd been thinking of them mainly in terms of probiotics, and not bothering because I eat yogurt most days. Time to try some kvass again! (It might not be like drinking pop, but it has to be better than vinegar ;). )

It's something I've only really used as a seasoning for things like marinating...
Here's (http://www.bragg.com/products/liquidaminos.html) the web page.

Thank you, Gaelen. But isn't that something completely different from vinegar? Have I missed a step?
Now I'll have to look at the numbers to see if it's better than just eating the same 1/4g of protein as beef or egg.

Oops, I just looked at the product featured on that page - the liquid aminos in "naturally occuring amounts," whatever that means. I see they do cider vinegar, too, so that makes sense. Obviously my sleep last night wasn't entirely successful in restoring brain function ;).
Do you think wine would work? :D

Yeah. I'm not sure it'd be practical intravenously. :p

Sorry -- Braggs is a brand name of vinegar that is organic and not filtered.
I would think that other fermented foods would work if you could figure out a standard of acidity. I believe Braggs is standardized to 5%, but since I don't have a bottle on hand, am not sure. It certainly wouldn't harm anything to try it! And yes, except for sauerkraut ;) almost anything would taste better than vinegar.

My morning BS levels are pretty stable and I tend to eat the same breakfast each day (cottage cheese, yogurt, flax, whey powder, strawberries--12 ECC). So... for my experiment, I would eat breakfast sans vinegar and test and hour later, then the next morning drink 2 tbs of vinegar just before eating and then test an hour later. Starting off the day with a slug of vinegar will be very interesting.... I bet it wakes me up! I'll alternate this regime for two or three tries and see what happens.
Actually, I don't mind Braggs too much if combined in 1/2 C water with a bit of sweetener -- sort of like mint sauce without the mint. Hmm. There's an idea -- mint sauce made with stevia before each meal!

Oh, BC!!! A cup of water/Bragg's made me... SHIVER!!! And, that was with two drops of Stevia, LOL! I shall prevail...
I put mine in 8 oz of water... maybe I should try a "slug"!!! :D
Keep ya posted!

I wonder if Balsamic vinegar would work? It's acidity level is listed as 6%. From my experience it is much better tasting also.

I have heard and read some similar papers before. I do make my own dressing sometimes with flax oil, vinegar, and lemon juice. I had forgotten all about the vinegar thing though. I may need to restudy this as I am pre-diabetic and insulin resistant.

Interesting idea, Kevin... I "happen" to have some of that on hand! ;)
BC, I've only done this once... but, my blood sugar levels were 20 points lower the next am, with nothing else changing... How's it going for you? Or, are you done? :)

On Bragg's website she says 1 to 2 teaspoons egually of raw, organic apple cider vinegar and raw honey in a glass of distilled water to keep old age at bay.
You don't want to slug the vinegar plain, it is way too acidic for the system to handle over time.

I've done this before...early on a few years ago as I joined in the fun of experimenting with "alternative" stuff I read about. lol
I didn't mind the taste of it, MIXED WITH HONEY that is!!!!:D I don't know what it was doing for me,....such is many of the things I read/try and enventually give up on...but I do still own Bragg's vinegar! :D
The regular off the shelf manufactured vinegar's aren't the same, they've been pasturized or homogenized or WHATEVER the word is for it?? lol (see how well I understand things? LOL)...and therefore lose what the Bragg's product has. It's referred to them as "mother"...and it's the floaty stuff in the liquid from Braggs. It's not in your off the shelf basic vinegar. I bought my bragg's at the health food store.

This morning after exercising and before breakfast I took 2 tablespoons of Heinz apple cider vinegar in a small glass and added approx. 4 drops of sweetzfree. The result was not near as bad as I was expecting. It was sort of like a small glass of the taste of sour apple candy....tangy but sweet. Anyway my BG was 88 before and an hour after having a 3 egg tilapia, green onion and cheese omlet and a piece of LC(4 carbs)toast my BG was 96. I am going to check again at 2 hours but it looks like this may have some effect on me.

yes, my normal would be higher. I almost always jump 20 points after a normal meal.

Somewhat bleary eyed this afternoon - I was wondering what the connection between BG and drinking sherry could possibly be ... and whether wine or brandy would do? (I hate sherry ... sorry Sherry!:p )

I know certain kinds of wines will drop my BG down really low, Like a shiraz.

Ooooh, now your talking Kevin!! Anyone care to suggest why?
Interesting you refer to it as shiraz - suggests you might have been drinking some of ours? Isn't it usually called Syrah were you come from?

I drink Rosemount Estate and I have never heard it called anything but Shiraz. Its great wine though.

Ah yes that's one of ours. You will find the American and French (Rhone) grown equivalent is usually called syrah.
If you get a chance, try some of the Penfolds range - especially the reds;

I'll look for it the next time I go into the city. I live in a rural area and the selection around here minimal at best....lol
