Anyone have anything on this? Everything I read about diet with pancreatitis is the opposite of the PP way. I've been doing less than 30g of carbs a day for three weeks and I just don't feel like it's coming off the way it has when I did this before. Of course I didn't have pancreatitis before either. I'm wondering if the pancrease is unable to produce glucagon in it's injured state.

I'm male, 40, 6'3" with slim build, all weight goes right to the gut. I recently weighed myself at 210, but my ideal weight is more like 180. I stopped drinking alcohol completely 4 weeks ago. and started PP'ing again 3 weeks ago. I've lost about 10 pounds, but like I said my body doesn't feel the same as it did the last time I did this.

When you've got another health condition (like pancreatitis), your body doesn't respond to dietary measures the way it would if you were healthier. Pancreatitis also affects your digestion, and metabolism, and those things might be affecting your results, along with any drugs you're taking for the pancreatitis. Your body needs to heal before it can focus on weight loss.

That said, 10 lbs in a month is nothing to sneeze at--and things will be slower when you 're-diet' as well as when you get older. Kinda sounds like the alcohol could have contributed to the 'gut,' and that kind of body reshaping usually takes a longer than a month. So as long as you feel okay, and your bloodwork numbers and pancreatic function tests are okay or stable, I'd give your body the time it needs, both to get better and to reshape, while continuing to eat as PP-appropriate as you can.

How does your doc feel about your dietary choice?

I've not me a doctor yet that has or would proactively support the PP plan. He wants me to go high carb-low (no) fat.

That's unfortunate, jbcarb--but as long as your pancreatic function and blood tests stay in good ranges, you could try adequate protein, increased fat, controlled carb eating (which is PP in its most basic form) and 'teach by doing.'

What I'd be concerned about is if either your pancreatic function or blood tests went off because of controlling your carbs and increasing your protein/fat intake. If that happens, then this is not an appropriate way of eating considering your condition...but I'm not a doc, and I don't play one on the web.

I'm back in for tests in two weeks, I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks.
