Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.
William Shakespeare

Good morning, all! Have you overcome some doubts this month? Did you find yourself doing more than you thought you could? If you’re still afraid to take the step, there’s plenty of time to join us!

Protein power is so much more than weight loss to me. It’s a total re-do of my self and my lifestyle. I didn’t have to give up my family and friends and I’ve found wonderful friendships here. I have another family at the gym, even! Knowing that I’m doing something for myself is great for dispelling doubts.

Breakfast will be a strawberry shake. Lunch will be sausage and maybe a side salad. Dinner will be sliced pork and fresh broccoli.

Good morning to all!! I am increasingly pleased with my progress. Down to 165!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!! For those of you who don't know, this is the first loss since Jan 1 from 168, and I've been faithfully doing PP with no honey tree days... So what you are seeing is a true visit from the woosh fairy! Granted the loss may not stick for a day or two, but I am confident that it will be gone for good.

Now, this is exactly why I was journaling and sharing my feelings and determination with you. To show that it CAN be done, perseverence is key.

Plan for today. Coffee, chicken for bfst. Quiche and salad for lunch. Dinner to be determined when I open the freezer and see what's there.

BTW, I think there were several factors in overcoming this plateau.

#1 - the advice and scrutiny of Carol and the others on this forum to my diet.
#2 - Stopping all splenda. I believe in my case it does stall weight loss. I have been completely off it for 2 days, and I saw results. Coincidence? I think not.
#3 - reducing my caloric intake... for me, I can't lose on anything more than 1800-2000, preferably 1600.
#4 - avoiding wheat, for me this is huge. (including dreamfields.. *sigh*)

So I know that this can be a tough time for some who started Jan 1 - you're 2-3 wks in, wt loss has slowed, and you've begun to remember, or learn how to "cheat". So if you've stalled, go back, re-evaluate what protien power is really all about... and take it from there.

Again, thanks for all the support!

Well said, Carol. I feel the same way about this wol. It's a total Win-Win every way you look at it. I feel so fortunate to be able to come here and get the support and comraderie each day.

Good for you Lisa--you worked the plan and the plan worked !!

Good for you for not giving up right away when things weren't going the way you wanted.

And good for you for being observant enough to see what things were causing you problems and especially good for you that you saw the problem , then took action to eliminate them.

I am struggling so much today. I am bored and want to eat. I havent cheated yet, but I am sure feeling weak. I lost 9 lbs, so far. its been a week. I was okay last week, didnt feel tempted very much. but today, i am wondering how i will make it through. i just have this sudden "I'm tired of meat" thingy...I bought a large lake trout, so I think I will thaw it and put it in the oven, that may ease me through this, since it is a change from what I have been eating.
Breakfast was beef chunks with steamed cauli and brocc
I had a one-minute chocolate cake for 5 carbs
supper will be trout, with veggies.
not sure about lunch.
BTW, is splenda going to stall my weight loss?

Super testimonial, Lisa. What a great plan! Knowing yourself is key. (Hmmm...look for a quote on that!) Yay for the Whoosh Fairy visit!

Sometimes I think my DH understands and then last night he said he was "worried" about my nutrition because I'm tired when I get home. (sigh) I've lost weight, got off the diabetic meds, blood sugar is normal, blood pressure is normal, I work out four nights a week and take supplements, but I come home tired so he thinks it's my food. I suggested it might be because I have a stressful job and I'm no spring chicken any more! The rest all keeps me sane. ;)

Was I ranting? :paranoid: Sorry! :D

Lucille, try to picture tomorrow, when you will be CELEBRATING the fact that you did NOT give in to cravings today!!!
and the more days you DON'T give in, the less you have cravings.

But if you give in, then you will just struggle longer!!!

Please trust what I'm saying...I have BEEN there SO MANY TIMES!!!

Well said Carol, this is really a good place to have that extra friendship! Strange how we can get close-up even if there are miles and miles between us. In my case there's even an ocean.

Good go Lisa! What a thrill to see the scale go down!

Good to read you Karol.

Today is a not too hungry. Strange how since I started PP I seem to be less hungry that on the other plan. Think it has to do with the amount of proteins and fats. Certainly hoping that at the end of the month I will see some pounds off but at the moment I feel really super and have tons of energy, sleep like a bear in hibernation (actually can even sleep underwater my DH says) and only have a little tummy visible. If I were to sit up straight it would be invisible;)

Breakfast ham slice and oopsie with a bit of mustard - coffee/cream
Lunch was a really paleo meal - 1/4 turkey carcass roasted in oven. Every once-in -a-while I love bones. and a itty bitty apple (2 oz weighed:eek:)
Dinner not sure yet. Bought some ground pork and I think I will make some burgers.

Been reading and studying all over the place and found this really neat recipe for a slice of flax seed bread... It was a little long to calculate all the things in it but well worth the effort. Besides the excellent taste it is also packed with protein and Omega3. Next time I will divide the amount into several little rolls so that I can enjoy one with each meal. Tastes just like really good pumpernickle. Funny thing is that I didn't have any Flax seeds so I had to go into the aviary and beg some from the canaries. Theirs was a bit more 'whole grain with bits of husks of flax' ...

Lucille, don't give up or give in! You did so well today. And even had a piece of 1minute choc cake (recipe please!!!). I love chocolate cake and where in heavens name do you find a DIET which allows you chocolate cake and ONLY for 5 ECC?!!!

Amy - did you eat that Sockeye yet? Can just taste all that love Omega 3 fatty skin. You can tell I love salmon right?

Have a good rest of the day!

As many of you know...I LOVE and RELISH routine...
Well I have not had or lived a routine since Tuesday of last week.
I am unable to plan my food, unable to eat at my regular times, unable to even sit in bed at night and process the next day because each day is completely up in the air.

I may HATE it, but I'm not sure it's a bad thing for me.
It forces me to work my program more thoroughly and to make snap food decisions...which I try to avoid for the most part and therefore don't have much experience with.
BUT, I think I've been doing okay.

My biggest struggle this last 8 days is getting ENOUGH food :suspicious:. Last night by 8pm I'd only had 1000 calories and 75g protein, not enough for me.
I hadn't had supper so I enjoyed my dbl cheeseburger 1/2 bun from Wendy's. I needed the protein and the calories.

Anyway...today I will be eating the lunch *I* ordered, which happened to be sandwiches...:peeved:...I will eat double the meat, and maybe a very small amount of the bread, but I brought pickles to eat instead of the potato salad, and I don't struggle avoiding the brownies (thank goodness!!!).
I brought some smoked turkey so that if I'm faced with sitting at the office until 8pm again, I have a snack.

This "being off schedule" with my eating has caused my body to be very confused. I am SO hungry when I wake up because I'm eating too close to bed. I don't usually feel hungry when I actually am (stomach growling) I just get a terrible headache because it's been 7hrs since I ate something.

Anyway...just wanted to note what's happening.
I have been on plan though...and am back down to 199.5 (from 200.0), so that is good.

Meals today...

7am lc goulash, lc almond scone
11:30 deli meat/cheese, 1/2 bread?, 1-2 claussen dills
3pm deli turkey (up to 3oz), iced latte
6-8pm I asked GF to plan supper, very low carb...don't know what we're having.

That's as much planning as I can do at the moment...I feel pretty good about THAT much!

Enjoy the day all.....

I am struggling so much today.... Oh, Lucille, hang in there! Don't think about the meat, just concentrate on the vegetables. Your menu sounds very tasty! Get out and do something that will give you a feeling of accomplishment to derail your boredom. Changing to low carb often makes us tired for a few days, did you read about that? Nine pounds off is awesome!

BTW, is splenda going to stall my weight loss? You're the only one who can determine what your body likes and doesn't. Artificial sweeteners can be a lifeline until you settle down and get into a routine of low carb. Most people don't need to worry about that until further down the road. If you read the threads, you'll find many conversations on what helps and what doesn't and it's different for everyone.

No Sockeye here in Minnesota (DARN IT)...just Walleye...
Definitely NOT the same fish at all...I would much PREFER Sockeye to Walleye, but they are so different they almost can't be compared.

And the ones we caught we could not keep...Walleye are "THE FISH" of Minnesota, so in order to keep up the numbers, we are not allowed to keep them if they measure 17-26 inches because that is breeding size for walleye...and all the walleye we caught were that size...darn it!
So we came home empty handed...

BTW, is splenda going to stall my weight loss?

Lucille, splenda never was a problem for me till this time (#5 on PP) around. So I think I may have built up a resistance to it, which for me, impacted whether or not I could lose.

Good luck, you will pull through this. One thing I did when I was bored, was get online and order free catalogs from places I liked to shop. And also shop the sales online.. there are some really good sales going on right now as the stores are preparing for spring. Though I will admit, the days I wanted to just eat my boredom away, I did probably did overdo it on the low-carb "cheat" stuff. But I promise you, this too will pass.

Focus on how this makes you feel better, research why it makes you feel better. This will empower you to make smart decisions and remove you from being your own worst enemy.

Blessings,
Lisa

Didn't know that Minnesota was a Walleye only stateHAHA! Guess that the idea was to go out there and have fun. Glad to hear that the fishing laws are strict though. It is so important to protect game etc. Pity that a big one didn't get landed. Just means that you'll have to get to a fishmonger and buy a SOCKEYE and think of poor me who has to eat Norwegian-grown ones .

Ultimately, I think routine is great, but it's not the same as being in the flow. In the flow, it's not about routine, but about having a few simple guidelines that you follow that let you be out of your routine and still in the flow. NEAN is like that. I don't NEAN, but when I am in the flow, I make good choices and make sure my nibbles stay within count. Out of habit. Or understanding. Or metabolized understanding. I dunno.

Just means that you'll have to get to a fishmonger and buy a SOCKEYE and think of poor me who has to eat Norwegian-grown ones .
Not very many Americans have fishmongers they go to. It's all at one store. Of course, we have fishmongers (and bakers and butchers) and the people who seek them out and work them do quite well for themselves and live more like Europeans.

Me, today: Work, eat, work, home, eat. I don't know if it's routine, but it's the usual thing. Today is day 21 of the New Year. I started the plan on Jan 2, so today is day 20 of consecutive days on plan. Yeah for me.

A big one did get landed...too big to keep...I know, that sound so weird.
We only keep/eat the ones that are 14-17 inches...talk about LIMITED!!

We can get Sockeye here, but it's had to FLY here which means it can be good, but not WOW AMAZING good.
We are heading to Seattle in February, and we hope to get some fresh salmon there!

eep I posted in the wrong thread before... anyhow, yes, I have overcome some doubts this month. I doubted that I would be able to make it through some days without bingeing on carbs, but I did.

I have lingering doubts about my research, but maybe some will be resolved this afternoon.

so far, so good.

I'm baaaaaaack!  :D

I am now officially in pre-maintenance. Over the next few weeks I'll test out various levels of ECC and see where I fit regarding both weight maintenance and blood sugar issues. I suspect it will be around 75 ECC, but I'm hoping for a bit higher -- we can always dream, right?

I'm starting at 55 ECC since that was where I was when I took the three week PP vacation. I am certainly delighted to be back and to once again connect with the folks on this forum. I've missed the daily contact.

I also need to develop a workable excercise program but will discuss that over at the M & S thread.

I'll read today's thread in more detail later and probably write again.

Food for today: Breakfast: wild hog ribs, clementine
Lunch: Baked chicken, tossed salad, 1/2 apple
Dinner: Baked chicken, mixed LC veggies, either another clementine or 1/2 apple. Cheese, dark chocolate and wine this evening.

Welcome back, BC, and congratulations on reaching your goal :D. Where's Sherry with a woohooo when we need one?

Now you start the hard bit .

I find that if I'm at the higher end of my carb tolerance, it becomes particularly important to divide it between my meals, and also that all carbs aren't equal! But you already have lots of experience of measuring your blood sugar after various meals, so I'm sure you're well on the way to finding what works for you. Another thing I need to be very careful of is that as I add more carbs, they tend to come with extra fat too, so the calories can go up fast if I'm not careful - and I can't do that without gaining weight. So keep a close watch while you're experimenting, to avoid undoing all your hard work.

Glad to have you back :).

Hi BcC!! Great to see your smiling post up there !! We missed you while you were away. And like Janet, I find maintenance pretty difficult. I keep jumping all over the place.

Anyway, My protein was 79 ecc 32 but got my water and supps and exercise all in today.

Pretty good day for me today even though my lunch was kind of late... but it was a really good protein intake from that file mignon we just finished. I've been drinking more liquids nowadays, which for me is a bit of a weak point (I sometimes don't drink enough). All in all, however, it was a nice day, and first day of class too... now my students can brag about having a clown as their professor (I use humor as a teaching tool quite a bit)! :)

Have a great night everyone!

hey everyone...
Today I ALMOST got back to my normal routine...not quite, but almost!
wanted to record final counts. Again, calories are a bit low. I just ate 1oz of nuts so that I could get as high as it is, but I still normally need a few hundred more to feel satisfied.

not a bad day for me foodwise - but a dear friend of dh & I died in a car accident this morning. we're both still struggling with it - I'll be not here as soon as we know the arrangements.

I'll do my best to stay on plan and be back as soon as I'm back.

Hi all, didn't plan for anytime on the computer this am. Day went alright. Tired though, very tired.

Breakfast: omelette with cheese and left over mixed vegies YUmmmy
Lunch: tuna salad (tuna on lettuce with cheese and caesar dressing)
Dinner; sour cabbage/pork soup, 1 cup of cottage cheese and 2 hard boiled eggs

Really wanted to get some exercise in today, but the two hour dance practice marathon last night should let me squeeze by today with a break or maybe a few ab crunches.

Not getting enough water, I am having a hard time getting away from my class to use the facilities! One more week at the high school and i am done that term!

Annie, sorry to hear about your friend :(

I am soo tired. Didn't sleep well last night, went to the gym in the am to run, but couldn't finish my run (did 45 of 60 minutes so still ok, I pushed the speed up). I ate a lot of cheese because it's all I had. I also ate 2 grillers and a hot dog for dinner, then I had a ski instructor's clinic frm 6-9 and was starving, so I ate more cheese when I got home and a teaspoon of peanut butter.

My numbers for today:
cals: 2119
fat: 163
carbs: 17

Anniesnan, so sorry about your friend.

Had a busy day, had an old friend who is also my old school teacher over for lunch, it was delightful. We had quiche and spinach salad. Yum. So then the rest of the day didn't go so well.. Didn't plan dinner so at the last minute decided chicken alfredo, which is high in cals and carbs, not enough protien and too much lindt 85% - man is that good! (not too many carbs b/c of using dreamfields, but I'm trying to avoid wheat.) Anyhow, here are the totals. (I did clean my whole house in 2 hrs, so that must count for something! :O)

Calories 2,191
Fat 175.3
Carbohydrate 44.0 (ECC 33.9)
Dietary Fiber 10.1
Protein 90.9

Of course cleaning your house like a madwoman counts! But I'm not sure if it will build lean muscle mass. Today was a busy town day for me. Got around to trying a batch of revol-oopsies. Interesting little resource, those are. Breakfast was a protein shake, lunch was a ham and cheese sandwich using two revol-oopsies, dinner was an atkins peanut butter bar. Drank my water, took my supps. Exercise, not so much.

Totals: 80g protein, 15g ECC, 69g fat, 1050 cal (approx.)

Thanks, folks. I didn't get back here yesterday, so just read through the posts to catch up. This group is truly fabulous-- you are all doing such a great job.

Welcome back, BC, and congratulations on reaching your goal :D. Where's Sherry with a woohooo when we need one?

Now you start the hard bit .

I find that if I'm at the higher end of my carb tolerance, it becomes particularly important to divide it between my meals, and also that all carbs aren't equal! ...

Thanks for the tips, Janet. Oh, yeah, I know the pitfalls of maintenance -- I almost got here two years ago and then blew it. Only took 3 months to undo a whole year's work. I've decided on a two-week stairstep interval up the ECC "ladder". I figure the slow move up might help me stabilize better. I can't do the fast acting carbs due to my bgs problems, so that will have a sort of braking affect on carb overindulgence. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions as I go along. I'm heading over to the maintenance section to read the info there. Cheers!
