Know thyself means this, that you get acquainted with what you know, and what you can do.
Menander
After we’ve followed Protein Power for a while, it becomes evident that we each have our own style. It’s very helpful when we can come here and discuss what works for us as individuals and learn from others. I know I still love talking about it. I'm still learning new things!
Have you learned something here on the forum that perhaps you missed when you read the book? Or maybe it wasn’t even mentioned?
Breakfast will be a shake, either strawberry or mango. Lunch will be a salad from the cafeteria. Dinner looks like burgers.

Good morning Carol.................Ahhh this bored. I learned how important it is to have like minded people discusss their issues, triumphs, stalls, and successes all in one place. It is true support and also motivation!!!
Today will be:
Breakfast: shake (coffee)
lunch:salad with tuna/sprinkled cheese
Dinner not sure yet, something with ground beef. Maybe taco salad???
I need to go shopping after work to replenish some supplements and I have a game of curling lined up for evening.
Oh I also learned that when you have support like we have in the M&S group (yep Shadow that's you) it makes it a lot easier to join or participate in physical activity that is fun, perhaps not exactly a chore to do. (example: my weekly dance class, and now my weekly curling game) I know I don't necessarily have to plan "at home" exercise those days as I am getting 1-2 hours of exercise that "just happens"!! I sure hope that all makes sense!!!

Good morning, all. Gosh, I've learned so much from being on this forum, that either weren't in the books, or I forgot were there. Besides the tremendous support, what immediately comes to mind is better understanding of nutritional requirements and suggestions for the supplements; great exercise tips; fabulous recipes; and information on some food products. I know there are more, but this is what comes to mind right now.
My projected menu is:
Brekkie - coffee w/ half and half, yogurt/cottage cheese/berries mixture
Lunch: Baked chicken, green salad, mixed LC veggies, clementine
Supper: Venison/beef burger, wilted spinach salad, dark chocolate
Sn: apple, cheese, wine
Should total close to 1600 calories and 55 ECC.

YAY for you Lucille!!! Great job in keeping on plan, the benefits of staying on plan will always out-weigh giving into the cravings!
So already had a piece of quiche lorraine and a cup of coffee. Lunch will be chicken, probably all by itself, Dinner is also something with chicken, but not sure if I'm going to grill it or what... off to cook up a marinade for that.
BTW, for those of you wondering. I am a lb from my 3 lb loss yesterday. 166. But that is totally okay, b/c watching the trends in my weight has shown that I will lose, then gain 1-2 lbs, then lose them again and they're off for good. (I think the main reason I'm up was the dreamfields last night. I know they just don't help with my efforts right now.)
Yeah Lucille!!! WOOHOO....one more day closer to those cravings being a thing of the past!!!!!!
BUT, dont' let your guard down today...usually it's the DAY AFTER that got me! UGH...
Today I'm pretty sure I'll be back to my old routine. Work guests leave today (FINALLY) and I was actually able to get some of my ACTUAL work done yesterday! NIce.
I go to see Ma and Pa this weekend. Dad's new hip is working REALLY WELL and ma says he's a new man! I can't wait to see it for myself! I haven't seen my dad limp EVER (his one leg was 3.5inches shorter than the other for my entire life because of a deformed hip).
Anyway, I'll easily stay on plan this weekend...
Scale was up a pound. I assume it's because I wasn't eating enough and my body isn't reacting well. I'm not too concerned. I put on a pair of pants that use to fit me perfectly and they are sliding down, so not concerned. I do look forward to the day that I'm a bit more "comfortably" below 200 so my weight always starts with a 1 instead of hanging out on the edge of 2 and 1. :(
Meals today
7am almond scone
8am 3eggs, 1sausage
11am chipotle with chicken, no rice, 1/2 container of guac
3pm 3oz smoked turkey
6pm burger, 1/2 bun, caesar salad
Pro: 142.8
Ecc: 38.8
Fat: 141.7
Cal: 1942
b/c watching the trends in my weight has shown that I will lose, then gain 1-2 lbs, then lose them again and they're off for good. (I think the main reason I'm up was the dreamfields last night. I know they just don't help with my efforts right now.)
My body does the EXACT same thing....I get it.
HEY BC...nice to see you back!

Not much going on here. Slow day at work, but steady with boring stuff to do.
Working on doc appointments and other stuff.
I dunno what I've learned from the board. It's hard to assimilate where this fact or that idea came from. I'm sure there's lots, but specifically, I dunno. Maybe that like minded people are overrated. It takes a small amount of dissonance to achieve real consensus. Yeah, I'll stick with that.

Carol, I'd say that for me this forum is a lifeline. Just the sort of thing you need when you really need to be hauled out of the water or just towed along a bit. Did learn all sorts of things though and continue sweeping up all sorts of really good info.
Sounds like everyone is doing well today! Am really glad to hear that you didn't give in to the munchies Lucille! It's really great that you were able to get over that little hill. Sure doesn't mean that it won't happen again but for sure you know that if you did it once you can continue...
Not even hungry today but I guess that is because I am really feeling satisfied with the meals I am getting under my belt.
Breakfast only coffee and cream because I was out walking a market and didn't get back until late.
Lunch a big piece of that pork meatloaf and my cabbage salad
Dinner will be a hot stringbean salad with roast beef slices and some slices of sheep cheese. Maybe I can even fit in an itty bitty apple. Want to keep carbs at the 20 level to kickstart my body in letting loose some of those fat calories it has hogged.
Off to read more stuff in the forum. Great rest of Thursday!

one thing I did that helped is I cooked up a omelet filled with stuff, and ate it all, and then I was full for hours and hours. That got me through, plus imagining what it would be like afterwards if I cheated, and what it woudl be like afterwards, if I didnt, and I am glad I made it. I know i can do it again today.
I began overeating when I quit drinking, 19 yrs ago, its like i was compensating, "well i cant have that drink but I CAN have that pizza"..or whatever
then I went from a fairly slim person to what i am today...

Oh. One more thing.
Today is the beginning of the 4th week of the year.
5% of the year is gone.
If you set goals for the year, how're you doing?

YES, I've learning something from this board! What I learned is that it does work and is a workable approach to nutrition/food lifestyle (avoiding the D word). I ended up back here in the last few days because of a conversation last weekend with a potential personal trainer. Her idea of how to eat made me instantly depressed: eat at specific times each day every few hours, in measured amounts, with very little fat. Very rigid. Ugh.
I decided right then and there that I don't want or need to follow such a strict way of eating. I didn't stay with PP last time because my appetite diminished to the point that I wasn't eating enough, and I didn't feel well. But I know that if I make an effort to track the carbs and maintain a certain level at each meal, I'll be fine. AND I'll enjoy it and it won't overtake my life, like the trainer's plan would have.
So . . . I made a beeline back here to this group. I'm going to be my own personal trainer, with a customized meal plan I design that fits in my everyday life, which is crazy busy since i'm in law school. And I'll save myself a bundle in the long run!
Thanks, everyone, for helping me realize I already know what to do!

Oh yeah. Had an Atkins mocha crunch bar earlier (I'm home sick and just wanted to grab something) and fixing a bacon and cheese omelette for lunch with a 1/2 piece of gluten-free toast. For dinner, I'm roasting two chickens so I have lots of meat around and maybe a small sweet potato with some other LC veggies. I have a training session to attend all day Saturday and Sunday, so I want to be ahead of the game with the leftover chicken.

Thank you all for the great feedback today. We are really in gear! You might want to be thinking about a topic for February. I'll need ideas in earnest next week.
Today was grueling for some reason. Tomorrow doesn't look much better, except for the fact that it will be Friday. After work it's party time!
Dinner tonight was a burger covered in chili topped with cheese. Yum!

Makes perfect sense to me, Jackie :D ! It's great to read of someone enjoying what they're doing - not just having them go through the motions!

Greetings from the road!
I have been in southern Illinois most of the week, in Springfield until tomorrow. Did well yesterday on plan as far as limited carbs, but probably did not get enough protein at all. I was in the car 12 hours so kind of difficult to have meetings and get it all done.
I can hear the jeers but here is my day: :(
Breakfast: at 6:30 AM Ice Latte
Lunch: at 4:30 4 small meatballs with a slice of provolone cheese at Subway, diet soda
Dinner: at 9:00 chicken breast with swiss, A green bean--they were terrible.
Today:
Breakfast: at 6:30 AM Ice latte (I know!)
Lunch: 12:00 Turkey, ham slices, cheese, strawberries
Dinner: 6:00 More of the same, my office is bare except the left overs from the meeting!
But the good news is home tomorrow. I have chewed some gum which I don't do so I need to remind myself that is not without carbs.

I'm so impressed with all the posts -- we had gotten down to just a few posting on the challenge thread before Christmas.
This is not Wacky Wednesday, but just need to share a wacky occurrance. I've been wearing an old pair of stretch slacks with an elastic waist to work around the property--they are quite baggy. Checked the eggs mid-afternoon and had a bumper crop. I loaded my pockets as usual and headed back to the house. All of a sudden, the slacks went south! Thankfully I grabbed them before the pockets hit the ground, so didn't end up with pocket omelettes (been there, done that). But the really funny thing is here I am out in the middle of nowhere, and at the very point the slacks head south the Fed Ex truck was coming up the drive! I mooned the Fed Ex driver! :o He was nice enough not to say a word. :D
Ended the day at 86 protein, 53 ECC. And that included my ChocoPerfection fix!

Another good day today, though I'm pretty tired right now. Polly woke me up at 3:30 AM... all good though, considering the alternative if I don't let her out!!!
Right on the mark today, including water! And... a little nice surprise this morning that I got on the scale... 6.2 lbs since Jan 14, after our trip to Colorado (I kind of messed it up over there so I had to start again when we came back) -Sigh- it could be almost 10 lbs by now. But hey, we're right on track now!
Have a great night everyone!

THAT was a FUN-NY story!!
I was very concerned I went over carbs today, but thanks to lots of fiber, I JUST made it!!

BC, I can only imagine! :paranoid: Yes, we certainly have more traffic now than before Christmas, but everyone was so busy. January is the start-over month.
Gabe, good for you! It's nice to have a reward for your efforts.
Billie, you know the routine....let's get that protein in! Do your best!
Amy, I hope you have a nice, relaxed day tomorrow.

I've been learning great things from hanging out here with all of you fabulous people. Mainly, it's knowledge that is reinforcing what I know to do. Also this challenge has been great for keeping up my enthusiasm and helping me to not give in to temporary indulgences that are majorly sidetracking. Accompanying all of you on this journey, giving your best, inspires me to give my best as well. Inherently, you all give me permission to be the best low-carb me I can be.
Today breakfast was a ham 'n cheddar sandwich on revol-oopsies. Lunch was turkey salad with a little feta and some grape tomatoes. Dinner was green salad with low-carb pizza, the crust is made from cauliflower, mozzarella cheese and egg (thank you, cleochatra at the examiner). Drank my water, took my supps. No exercise again today. (I seriously need some sunshine to break me out of hibernation mode)
Totals: 90g protein, 23g ECC, 128g fat 1610 cal approx.

Food today was basically the same:

Carbs: ~20
Total Cal: ~1600
Forgot to weigh this AM. Whoops.
