Go back a little to leap further.
John Clarke
Need to regroup? Sometimes we falter and have to sit down to re-plan our strategy. I think Dr. Mike's words this week gave us all something to think about.
My goal lately is to record my food it Fitday. It's easy as long as I don't have mixed foods, like salad-bars or party snacks. I have no patience with keeping track of how many ounces of this or that and then recording them all separately. If I don't, though, it's a useless exercise. Grit your teeth, Carol!
Breakfast out with our son this morning! My favorite restauranteur has set up shop in a new building and I haven't seen it yet. I'm thinking an omelet sounds good.
How does your weekend look?
Morning Carol...I just spoke of you in Puddin's journal!
I think these last couple weeks have been my "step back" and I hope that it helps me leap forward. I was in SUCH a groove for the last four months and my days were very routine.
Then the busy 12 hr work days happened and I had NO routine (step back).
But I was forced to learn how to cope with no routine, and I think I did well. I didn't go off plan, however, I did find myself not spreading my counts out though all my meals. And I learned that does NOT work for me!
So, a step back, so that now I can leap forward!
Mom is up getting ready to go to work. She owns a store that sells other peoples crafts and such.
Dad is up to, I can hear his walker. He is doing FANTASTIC after his hip replacement. He still has a little pain, but when he compares it to the pain he had pre-surgery, he's giddy!
So, since they're both up, I suppose I better get up. They mentioned bacon and eggs for breakfast...sounds yummy!!

Good morning, all. A norther blew through last night so today is cold and blustery. I plan on spending the day inside in front of a roaring fire. Have several sewing projects lined up so will work on those.
Brekkie was cottage cheese/yogurt/berries/flax mixture.
Lunch: Pork chops, sauteed zucchini, salad and a clementine
Supper: Ham steak, some sort of LC veggie
Snacks: Apple, cheese, wine, Chocoperfection (not necessarily in that order :))
Amy -- getting out of my routine really messes me up as well. Even though I may eat right, I think the stress signals my body to conserve, so it just won't lose weight until life settles down again. Just keep on keeping on -- you'll get there.
Hope everyone has a great day.

Yeah, step back. I think I stepped off is more like it. Had serious cravings yesterday, then hubby and I decided to eat chinese and have a day off the diet. I will say it was delish, but then the pain started. Hips, back, headache. Yeah, it was good, but not really worth it.
So back on track today. Off to get some pampering at the salon and then to the tanning bed... (I know, I know, I prefer sunshine.. but not much of that available these days ;)

Rainrainrainrain seems to be the meteorological answer to all my problems. I'm in the house trying to keep the damp dogs off the bed until tonight when they will happily share our sleep.
Fall back seems to a normal way to step forward. I, at least, always have a step back and see what's happening attitude when I'm not sure about something. Then I sort of put first gear back in and start going again. For now I'm fairly straight on - heading towards some success in PP. Feel good etc so it's OK!
Breakfast was 2 oopsies with chive creamcheese and nova scotia
Lunch was a cauliflower puree with the rest of the chive creamcheese and two eggwhites all microwaved like a souffle
Dinner - no idea and it's already 4:30
Something excite me sooner or later. Maybe some sauteed chokes, garlic and with it some plain old tuna...not very special but filling.
Lisa, know the feeling after going off the PP wagon - really can give you some bad physical problems. I do love chinese though and when I go to the States I always have chinese veggies (no cornstarch) and meats. There's a dish which is wonderful - mo shu pork. It has some rice flour pancakes which, if you get those too you sort of ruin PP, but I tend to order it without the pancakes. It is a huge portion of meat and the veggies I share with my nephew or niece. They eat that with their sushi, which I can't stomach.

I haven't eaten yet and it's already 11am.. I had coffee so far and plan to plan something for the rest of the day, but have not achieved that yet. I have a lot to do today, including clean my room, pack for snowshoeing tonight, pack to stay at my parents' for 2 nights, and get ready for Monday. I have very limited money right now, so I am going to have to do some thinking about how I will survive for the next week and a half. I basically have $100 for gas and food for a week and a half and I doubt my parents will give me gas money for house sitting this weekend, even though it's like a tank and a half to get there and back :/
So yeah a LITTLE stressed!

And I learned that does NOT work for me!;) She CAN be taught! Just kidding, of course. Reminds me of me. Leap forward with new insight, Amy! :) When my dad had his first hip replacement his personality changed, too. He laughed a lot. Pain is a brain-sucker, isn't it?
Even though I may eat right, I think the stress signals my body to conserve, so it just won't lose weight until life settles down again. Just keep on keeping on -- you'll get there.BC, I think stress is also a brain-sucker.
I will say it was delish, but then the pain started. Hips, back, headache. Yeah, it was good, but not really worth it. Wow, Lisa, you get instant results! Chinese is good, but I get hungry much sooner.
I, at least, always have a step back and see what's happening attitude when I'm not sure about something. Then I sort of put first gear back in and start going again. For now I'm fairly straight on - heading towards some success in PP. Feel good etc so it's OK! Your analogy sounds similar to the way I get a car out of a snow drift! :p You have to back up to get a running start. OTOH, I can put it into 4WD and drive right out when I have my act together. Should I start writing a book...? Probably not.
I basically have $100 for gas and food for a week and a half and I doubt my parents will give me gas money for house sitting this weekend, even though it's like a tank and a half to get there and back :/
So yeah a LITTLE stressed!Sam, what if you told them you didn't have enough gas and you wouldn't be able to house sit? :peeved:
My sister took us out for breakfast at Ihop today. Right on the menu, there's a note that they add pancake batter to the omelets and say that you can order them with eggs-only. That's what I did, and added sausage, onions, peppers, mushrooms and spinach. Yum! I'd go there again. You'll be proud of me because I told her not to bring the sides.
Well, I'm done eating.
It's been an odd day...food was WAY too lean so I kept adding more protein and more protein.
Anyway...

So trying to get back on track today.. little high on the cal side, but good on carbs... it felt like I ate more than that.. but, l didn't.. So I sure can't complain.
Carol, I do seem to be able to tell pretty quickly when I eat wrong. But after a few days of "regular" carb eating then they seem to diminish, I guess my body gets "used" to it. I dunno.
Oh, I did weigh today, had to FORCE myself for the sake of data. Not too bad, I'm sure it's mostly water..

I know lots about going back, not sure about leaping further. This time I'm going back far enough to re-examine some food issues. Today was alright. Woke up to bright snow on the ground and more falling. Didn't stack up to much. Just enough to cover the leaves so I didn't have to finish raking today. Breakfast was blueberry protein shake. Lunch was spicy southwest chicken breast. Dinner was porkchops with a mushroom cream sauce and raw red pepper (kids choice). Took my supps, drank my water and went for walk with DH today. Gotta get my gameplan on for tomorrow so I don't get derailed. Thinking I'll take some atkins bars with me just in case.

Sunshine like the tropics but temps around 8°. Can't complain cus today I get a day off. From everything and everyone. DH is off on a guytrip to see an international bird fair. He raises hybrid canaries and today is fun day for the hybrid canary group. Should be back after I go to sleep which means that he will tiptoe into the bedroom, tap me on the shoulder scarring the devil out of me and want to tell me everything...
Forgot to write in yesterday my dinner. Actually it was the other half of the sort of cauli souffle...couldn't finish it at lunch cus it was too much so for dinner I added a cup of cottage cheese to get extra protein, 2 tbsp yoghurt for creaminess, 1 couple of tbsps of cream then nuked it again. It was like a cream soup. Fantastic.
Today is really simple mealwise
Bfast: artichoke omelette and smoked salmon
Snack: raw ham and an ittybitty apple
Lunch: turkey wing and cabbage salad
Dinner: who knows
Am really having a great time using my little ECC book to calculate meals. If I have a portion of something with ECC at 6 and the fiber is at 4...does that mean that I actually only have 2ECC or did the docs already take out the fiber to get that ECC number? The book isn't really specific.
Time to go read other threads. Back later

ECC is effective carbohydrate count, so the fibre's already subtracted. Also, don't forget that on European labels, fibre isn't included in the carbs, so if you're using the numbers shown on a label, just take the number it shows for carbs, and don't subtract fibre (same thing if you're using a European carb/calorie counter).

Puddin, please send your rain to Texas! We are desperate. The wildfires have already started. Yesterday a train set them every few miles over a 250 mile stretch. Since the trains no longer have cabooses, there's no way for the engineers to do a visual check, so an out of balance wheel can cause sparks without anyone on the train knowing any different. Scary.
Ended Saturday A-OK. 97 protein, 53 ECC. Still having a hard time getting calories above 1500 without raising protein too high. It really is all a balancing act.

Would love to be able to get some of the wet to you all. Last year we lost so many acres to wildfires!:crybaby:
BC that sounds terrible. My hometown has trains that go through ever 30 min and they all travel 70 mph. Dad was a fireman and he was constantly getting called to fires along the train tracks! Ugh...
Today I travel home. We are starting the day with an Omelet at a breakfast joint. I may have one slice of toast (and I may not...)
Lunch will probably be purchased somewhere...probably a burger.
Supper will be cooked at home and will depend onwhat I find. I have to cook lunches for the next week tonight when I get home. I already made that caul sau casserole (less cheese and no heavy cream this time) so I'm set for breakfasts (as long as I remember to get it out of the fridge. I had my paretns taste it and they said they were NOT going to remind me cause it was GOOODDDD).
So, I'm off to breakfast with the parents. I will check in tonight when Im home.
GF is at the dog sled races in Duluth, so I will have the house to myself!!! I NEVER seem to get the house to myself, so I'm pretty giddy!!

Hello everyone
Spent all day working yesterday on the road and today on my computer.
But we are on line for a great PP day
Brunch will be eggs ranchero with eggs, LC bread, cheese and salsa
Dinner will be quiche with cheese, ham, bacon and whatever else I can find.
Kind of an eggy day but I wanted the quiche to bring with me on the road tomorrow. Busy week, but good choices are ahead!

I think 2008 was my step back and 2009 will be my Great Leap Forward (like Mao ;-)
Food is good the weekend. Saw the Unborn (the movie should have been aborted) and might see My Bloody Valentine this afternoon.
Saturday food was weird (not a lot of it)...
Here's what it looked like:
1450 Calories
150g protein
16g carbs (11 in a hard cider, 2 in a protein shake, a 2.5 in the whipped topping on top of my jello)
It's 11:30 and I haven't eaten anything today. No problem. This is par for the weekend course. I'm off to shower and look up movie times. Hasta.

I should add, scale is down to 224 today. Brings my two week rolling average down to 225.6, which is down from 225.9 yesterday and 227 last sunday.

I agree wholeheartedly!
Today has been a relatively good day, bfst was sausage/cali casserole, coffee. Had a snack of 1 chocolate at church that I snuck in while feeding the kids a snack in the nursery ;O) Lunch was a New York strip grilled to perfection by me! Green beans, mac and cheese. Yum! I am really enjoying buying good steaks for Sunday dinner every week. Saves on going out after church, and gets us a really, really good steak!

Good evening all.. a newbie here. I have been reading about your weekends. I pray you get rain in Texas! Lisanurse81, I am on day 5 of PP and I want your chocolate! Think that is the only thing I miss (so far).
I bought a sugarfree 0 carb chocolate syrup yesterday so that I may have a glass of chocolate milk before retiring at night. The milk is 2%, and I am keeping within the 30 carb limit. I have never counted my protein grams before. Is this important? I know I get plenty as that is mostly all I eat.
Look forward to getting to know everyone.
Welcome welcome!!
Well, I made it home. It felt like a very long drive, and I'm tired.
As soon as I got home I went grocery shopping, made a frozen LC pizza, made lc lasagna for the next week, and am now recording my food for the week. It feels good to be back to my old (old? It's only been 2 weeks ) routine!
So, no exercise over the weekend but I ate right. I told Mom I was going to steal her scale...it told me I weight 196 :D:D:D. Oh well, totally different scale, but it was nice to see.
So, final counts today. Calories are a bit lower than normal, but everything else looks good.

I am on day 5 of PP and I want your chocolate! Think that is the only thing I miss (so far). Welcome, Mom2Boxer. If you like very dark chocolate, you can try Lindt 85% dark. I can find it at all three supermarkets in my area. Just a fraction more than one ecc per square and it's real chocolate.
The milk is 2%, and I am keeping within the 30 carb limit. I have never counted my protein grams before. Is this important? I know I get plenty as that is mostly all I eat. Have you read the books to get the basic plan? Adequate protein and controlled carbs is very important. There is a formula in the Protein Power book and a chart in the Protein Power LifePlan book. I'm sorry I don't have the link handy, but there is more than one site on the internet that will get you a workable minimum protein figure to use.
If you don't mind a comment, your 2% milk has more carbs than whole milk because of the extra fat content in whole milk. :) That will leave you a little more for vegetables!

Well, I finally finished my mystery novel and can check in for the day! :o My protein count is light, but my carbs are at 32, so that's it. I had some flax crackers earlier, which added up quickly. FitDay is brutal! :paranoid: :D
Lisa, I was going to make the cauli casserole, but I never got to it.
Good job on the weight loss, Max. I agree with your roulette theory.
Welcome home, Amy!
Billie, you're such a good planner!
Got lots done this weekend and I feel good about it. No food prep, but I've got lunches in the freezer yet.

Amy, glad to see you got back home OK. Kudus for staying on plan while away -- that is always a challenge for me. Yes, it's amazing how many fires are set by trains -- 2 years ago this whole area of Texas was burning. Even lost 1/2 of a whole town, and many of them were started by the train. The train companies started plowing the right-of-ways to help cut down on the problem. Hope we don't get to that state this year.
Welcome MomtoBoxer. Is that boxer, as in dog or boxer as in... well, a boxer? Just curious.
Yes, the protein is very important. The books can be found for a very reduced price on www.half.com (http://www.half.com). There's also a good "PP in a Nutshell" on the first section of this forum. For the Intervention level, the Drs. Eades changed to <40 ECC with with 7-10 per meal or snack. Makes it much easier to get in lots of good veggies. The webpage I use to assess protein needs and is very close to the calculations in the PP book is: http://www.getrolling.com/orbit/zoneCalcFemale.html Just ignore the "blocks" recommendation.
Am on target for today: 99 Protein, 51 ECC. Calories still a bit low, but I'm satisfied with the amount I am eating. Have a great evening, everyone!

Passing through on my way to bed.... I haven't been posting lately as my numbers have been horrible. Got past the anniversary (and the lasagna at Olive Garden) and other things. Will be back on the wagon tomorrow and no "special events" on the horizon. I already blew my January goal, so I'm starting a new 4 - week goal (which will end Feb 22) to base my reward on.
See you folks tomorrow.

MomtoBoxer, I eat the 85% Lindt.. one piece is plenty, and VERY chocolaty.
Carol, I love that casserole, next time I make it I'm going to try to get a bit lower on carbs and cals so I can not feel so guilty when I eat 1/3 of my daily intake at bfst. I always like to eat a larger dinner around 6, and if I have that casserole (as I did today) I am cutting it too close. Fitday IS brutal... thank goodness though, I would never be this hard on myself, and I wouldn't see the results either.
Final count for the day.. whew.. lots a cals, but okay on the carbs... would have been even better if I hadn't kept eating after dinner... :O)

Carol and Lisa...I'm so glad you guys are enjoying the sausage cauli casserole!
I made another one this weekend at my parents. I had them try it and they were NOT happy when I said I was taking it home with me so I could have it for breakfasts...
They said they should have bought double the ingredients so I could have made them one.
BUT, they are so leery of my "lc recipes" that they didn't think they'd like it. My mother must have gone off three-four times in the 40hrs I was there how she's "just too old to change her eating habits now".... I've totally given up on trying to talk about weight loss with her. She weights 360lbs, is 5'2" and is about to have her first (of two) knee replacements. She sat in her chair for most of my visit because her leg was bothering her (she wears prescription panty hose for varicose veins which run in our family). She thinks she's getting another blood clot...
It all can be very depressing, the brick wall I continuously run into when I'm home. They kept saying how good I looked and how they're so proud of me for NOT getting the ice cream they both got on the way home from shopping (growing up we NEVER left the shopping town without a "treat").
Then to hear my mother go on about how she doesn't really have a problem with "sweets", she just likes a little something sweet every day but when she has that "little something", it just makes her want more...how if she could just resist that first "little something" she'd be fine...:suspicious:
HELLO???!!!!!!!
Does she think this is something NEW????
Oh well...another brick wall for me to run into if I try to say/do anything...

Food for sunday:
Made beef ribs. Think I should have browned them more, but they were plenty good anyway. Made a gravy with a reduction of beef broth, beef rib drippings, garlic, tabasco, pepper and salt. Too salty on it's own, but on the ribs, WOWIE WOW! As a side note, I am learning to love my Joy of Cooking. I have not used it very much, but have made 3-4 recipes out of it in the last couple weeks and each has been very very good.
Any rate, nutrition for the day, best estimates:

Was gone all day yesterday and didn't get home until nearly midnight. So am playing catch up today. Despite the lack of routine for Sunday I did not overindulge and didn't get nearly enough protein or calories. Oh well. Breakfast was a mocha protein shake, lunch was over at pastor's house. I ate some beef roast with gravy and green salad. Dinner was a plate of caesar salad minus the croutons. I also picked some sausage and cheese out of my daughters baked penne. Drank about half my water, took my supps. Does laughing for two hours count as exercise?
