Carol asked us to think up ideas for the February challenge. I'd like to propose Basics Plus -- keep up with the basics we have been working on this month and add one or two items from the "other 20%". Both my books are loaned out, so if this idea strikes anyone's fancy, perhaps that person could list some of the other 20% from the book. The only one I can think of, besides exercise is the chapter on sunshine and calisthenics for the brain". But I know there are more--lots more.

Stretching
Relaxation
Sunshine
Exercise
Continual Learning

That's five of 7. Anyone else?

We're expecting 20* with snow tomorrow. I think I'll do something other than sunshine.

I'm also thinking along the lines of basic plus... with permission for beginners to drop the plus and stick to the basics. You've gotta walk before you can run!

I'm also entertaining the idea of member-facilitated days for anyone who wants to expand their growth by taking one day a week or a week out of the month, or something on that order. I do better with a topic-driven thread and we have had a wonderful response this month. There are a great many capable people around here.

I'll toss that out for your consideration. Please feel free to PM me if you would rather.

How about the non-beginner that is still struggling with the 80% portion? ;) Though I do "brain exercises" quite regularly, though that wouldn't actually be a "challenge" for me.

As a pre-beginner, I would give you one "basic" at a time, Becca. :)

What ever the challenge, I think it is good to have the reporting in each day to be a basic thing. We want to keep connected and it keeps us accountable.

I remember for Feb. one year--last year or the year before -- I chose to make sure I got in 5 servings of veggies or fruit a day. I really had to plan and work at it , but it got easier for me and I think I may make that my "extra" this month as I really don't seem to try and get in enough varieties of those foods.

Also, I am going to do away with all grain products for the whole month of February. Just curious to see if they affect me in ways I am not even aware of.

So I will be adding something and taking something away. We'll see how it works.

I agree with Karole, as long as we are accountable for the basics anything that is added is great with me. The exercise I think I am handling, the continual learning is my job (teacher) which I got offered a new one this week. Ya for me. Well the sunshine is great if you get some, I am out anytime we get some and I do take my supps. Beyond that would be a challenge.

Basics + is a great idea. We can stick to the basics and work on just one more little thing. You know when is the last time you realllllly stretched. It is so nice to lay in bed in the AM or in the night and stretch out all your muscles, now we can all do that.

My point is that we can all do the basics and those who want to "belly up" or should I say "belly down" :D can do more. I recall one of the better challenges was just the camaraderie and the people coming to the board, encouraging and supporting, nagging if they need it. Any challenge is what we individually and as a group make it!

Bring it on!!!!

Carol, I'd be willing to take one week in February of "moderating" the challenge (although we don't really need much moderating). I do like the quote at the beginning, and can certainly find enough to start us off for a week. You've done such a good job, I'm not sure any of us could fill your shoes, but I'd hate to see you get burned out. :)

I'll be travelling this next week, so if you want me to take my turn, it will need to be after that.

You're right, finding the quotes takes a little time and starting off in the morning means being organized, but the thread pretty much runs itself after that. You have helped out before and always do a great job.

The reason I used the quote format this month is because I always participated more when we've used it in the past. Looks like it still works! :D This month we've been focused on goals and action, so I will probably take a slightly different approach for the Basics +1. I appreciate all your feedback and support so much! I'll get the February challenge outline up presently.
