If you do not hope, you will not find what is beyond your hopes.
St. Clement of Alexandra
We’ve only concentrated on the basics this month, but there are so many other facets of Protein Power! It’s important to get the basics down before branching out. The rewards are abundant.
Breakfast will be yet another mango shake. Lunch will be a salad with chicken and I hope they have bacon on the salad line. :) The beef was still frozen last night so I'll try again tonight.

Morning all!
I hopped on the scale and confirmed that the number has in fact gone down. 10.5 pounds since the first of the year (even with my lack of success so many days). This weekend I will take measurements as well.
Breakfast will be a shake (as always during the week), lunch is leftover Italian chicken from last night, dinner will be "breakfast" (scrambled eggs and bacon) I think (hope) with snacks of cheese, tuna and almonds during the day.
Need to go to Sam's and the grocery store today as well. I didn't finish my shopping last weekend and have run out of some other things I thought would last the week.

If you do not hope, you will not find what is beyond your hopes.
I thinking hoping and DREAMING are so important. I do both alot. Because if i can't dream what I want to be, I don't have a visual of where I am going. So today I plan of hoping and dreaming...and grant writing and contracts and and and....we just can't let anything, any hope we have of being dashed by anything else!
Great start Carol, THANKS!

Good morning, Carol, Becca :).
Nice quotation, Carol. Sometimes we get bogged down in the day to day work of planning, shopping, cooking, exercising, avoiding various temptations... It's good to remember what we hope to gain, and also to think about even going beyond that. I started PP wanting to lose some weight and get back into my smaller clothes. Levelling out my energy through the day, better skin, no excess fluid retention etc were all things that I gained beyond what I'd originally hoped for.

Great quote today. I hope for better health which is important, but without yesterday's quote of acting on that dream/hope nothing will be accomplished. And if I hope for something specific without allowing myself to dream of what might lay beyond, I can limit myself too much.
I rarely sleep through the night, so have been accostomed to throwing a couple of more logs on the fire around 2-3 am. Wouldn't you know it that the first time I've slept through the night in ages, the temps. outside went down to 20F! Woke up to 45F in the house and a stone cold stove. So loaded up the woodstove, jumped back in bed along with 2 cats and a dog and snuggled until the house warmed up a bit. I just love not having to work outside the home on these chilly mornings.
Breakfast will be the rest of the venison chili. Lunch will be left-over brunswick stew. Supper is up in the air, but I might try my normal apple/cheese/wine since my weight is back down. And of course, my ChocoPerfection fix sometime in the day.
Have a wonderful day, everyone. :)
Hm...I'm not much of a dreamer. I live in the moment and make LOTS of plans, but "dreaming"...hm...
I just took the facebook personality test.
I'm an ESFJ. My F was about 9%, but the ES and J were in the 90%tile.
I found that when "planning" questions were asked, I was very strong in my answers, but whenever the questions were things about "dreaming" and "spacing"...yeah, I just don't do that. ????
It's possible that I didn't have any "hopes" because in my mind, you either DO it and see results, or you DON'T do it and have no changes.
Hm, not sure I"m explaining it very well....
Anyway...food is planned. Not sure about exercise. I SHOULD go cause I have the time, but because I have nothing scheduled tonight, I might want to race home and just BE. We'll see.
7am 2 almond scones
8am caul-saus casserole
11:15am caesar salad with 2eggs and broccoli (almonds instead of croutons)
2pm 1serving turkey pepperoni
6pm 6oz pork chop, 1/2 box frozen veggies
If I workout, I'll add some cheese and crackers tonight.

Waiting for the computer wizard. Seems that my desktop is really having digestion problems because internet comes and goes and it is confused.
Hopes, dreams etc seem to be the place where I often go when I'm feeling tired or such. Sort of head for my cloud and sit there a while enjoying the altitude. It gives me time to step back and get the reality check in order. For me, hoping and dreaming are part of my personality. Am rather positive in my attitude and therefore find that when I hope something I usually put first gear and get to the point where that hope gets fulfilled.
Belfrey, I'm beginning to think that we're twins separated at birth. I too often get up during the night to 'refeeed' the old wood chugger. This morning I couldn't seem to move, finally went to the bathroom, DH put in the wood, said BYEBYE and I found myself in bed with 1 cat and the 2 hounds. We dropped off till almost 8:eek:
Meals today were really super
Breakfast - AMMY's almond scones (addictive)
Lunch - breakfast quiche with eggs, sausage, stracchino and a little fennel
Dinner - roase turkey breast and salad
Snack so far was prosciutto crudo. Before bed I'll have my chocolate.
Am so exhausted right now, I'm glad I don't have to move...those 3 hours unsewing nets were deadly
My GF has been putting the scones on the counter where we leave an under-the-counter light on so that we can grow cat grass, and let me tell you...Y-UCK.
My suggestion, store the scones in the refrigerator or very near a cool window.
Also last weekend she put my $7 a loaf lc bread on top of the microwave. This bread HAS to be stored in the refrigerator or it turns moldy-green in a matter of HOURS (or so it seems).
:suspicious: Guess I have to do some "teaching" about lc items...
(or take care of them myself...:o)
I have to admit, I did "remind" her to stop moving the scones under the light THREE TIMES, and she said she keeps "forgetting"........

Becca: good job on the weightloss!
Amy: I was raised to always put bread and bread items in the fridge or freezer. I don't really understand why people leave bread out, it always goes bad, and then you've wasted money and food. I feel the same way about butter :P
re: dreaming: I am the hugest dreamer. I feel like my whole PhD project is based upon a dream. The only reason why it got published is because I think a lot of other chemists out there are dreamers, too, with wild imaginations--much like Einstein! I live in the moment, have a hard time planning anything, and I do whatever seems fun at the time, regardless of consequences, but things tend to come full circle in the end.
I have a plan for today:
Breakfast: 1/4 cup cottage cheese and a Morningstar Griller
deal with finances [good news!]
work out at 11am
Lunch: 2 hot dogs (after workout)
Dinner: leftover meat casserole
So there is a light at the end of the tunnel: I looked at my bank account this morning and it was pathetically down to $10 due to grocery shopping, gas, and spending too much on lunch yesterday when I went skiing (for free) with some friends.
I kind of freaked out about this, but I pulled myself together and called the manager at my bank (complicated mess, I claim they owe me $200, they claim their software can't be fixed to give me my money back). Then I called my financial aid office to ask why I have not yet received my refund, and guess what?! It turns out that they *were* in fact sitting on my money (collecting interest I will not see) and they are going to get it to me today, should be deposited in my bank in 2 days!!! YAY!

This weekend I will take measurements as well.Hooray! Isn't that nice to wake up to? It just lets us remember not to stress over day-to-day fluctuations

So today I plan of hoping and dreaming...and grant writing and contracts and and and....we just can't let anything, any hope we have of being dashed by anything else!Billie, I think it does take some quiet time to spend hoping and dreaming. 'Course, then you've gotta get up and turn those hopes into a plan or you're wasting your time!
I started PP wanting to lose some weight and get back into my smaller clothes. Levelling out my energy through the day, better skin, no excess fluid retention etc were all things that I gained beyond what I'd originally hoped for.Janet, that plays perfectly into next month's challenge theme. We're going to pay attention to the little things that change. It's really nice to hear about the changes beyond weight loss!
Great quote today. I hope for better health which is important, but without yesterday's quote of acting on that dream/hope nothing will be accomplished. And if I hope for something specific without allowing myself to dream of what might lay beyond, I can limit myself too much. I love that, BC. I hope you're warm now!
It's possible that I didn't have any "hopes" because in my mind, you either DO it and see results, or you DON'T do it and have no changes.
Hm, not sure I"m explaining it very well....Amy, it's perfectly clear to me that you're a DO-er and not a dreamer. Me, I ponder for a long time before I take action. That darned perfectionist wants to get it right the first time. Of course, that doesn't happen either!
Hopes, dreams etc seem to be the place where I often go when I'm feeling tired or such. Sort of head for my cloud and sit there a while enjoying the altitude. It gives me time to step back and get the reality check in order. For me, hoping and dreaming are part of my personality. Am rather positive in my attitude and therefore find that when I hope something I usually put first gear and get to the point where that hope gets fulfilled.Again, I believe it takes time to hope/dream/plan/ponder, whatever stage you're in.
I am the hugest dreamer.
Okay, that is different than my take on scientists. If you look at it like that, it makes sense because you have to have vision and insight to interpret the data. Wow! I learn stuff every time I turn around! Way cool on finding that money, Sam! A light at the end of the tunnel indeed!
I had a really good morning, so the stars must be properly aligned. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket. :D I plowed through two big stacks of screaming paperwork, plus turned out a reasonably complete Admin budget this morning. I also found out my assistant, who also has other duties, is not following the guidelines we agreed upon so I'm going to have to address it when she's back tomorrow. It's hard for me to be a supervisor because I'm such a people-pleaser and she carries a chip on her shoulder often. They're not my rules, though, they're the District's, so here we go!
My lunch salad was delicious and I finished off with two squares of Lindt 85%. Have a good afternoon, my friends! :)

Hi all (((Carol))) for your problems with the worker. I've been in that boat and didn't like it at all. Middle managers have it bad from the top and the bottom.
Cold here again, and not much chance of melting going on but I am keeping busy with sewing, phoning kids, and I have done my daily exercise. Good day.
Hey!!! Reduce the BBQ sauce to a low or no carb, and this sounds AWESOME!!!!

Okay, passing through to post my numbers before bed. I think I had Amy's munchies today... I was HUNGRY all day today, I'd eat a decent amount and 2 hours later (or less) was hungry again. It is day 4 of my "starting over again" which is usually about the time I cave. Caved to cheese today instead... hopefully this passes soon.

Not a great day for me. Didn't eat much for breakfast. Half a piece of chicken. Lunch was cream of cauliflower soup and a 1/2 chicken caesar salad. Supper on the other hand was not great at all. I ordered (my nephews birthday so we went out) I ordered a 6 oz ribeye with caesar salad, however I proceeded to eat most of kidlet #1's onion rings and then I had a piece of cake!!!!
Well I will just have to work it off, I know my emotions are wild this week with the impending new job, not enough sleep, no down time and the TOM just around the corner! We curled again tonight and will be curling all weekend. That should do it.
Tomorrow will definately be a BIG Water day!!!

Just checking in with totals, have company for the weekend. My sister and nephews and niece are here to celebrate nephew #3's birthday. Breakfast was cottage cheese, lunch was pork rinds (salsa limon flavor), dinner was burrito pie made with lowcarb tortillas and some leftover chicken fajitas for filling. Very good, but on the high side of carbs for me today. Drank my water, took supps, cleaned my house like a mad woman, even moved furniture!
Totals: 121g protein, 48g ECC, 66g fat 1340 cal approx.

Ah, a day late and a dollar short as usual. ;) Puddin -- I think you are right about us being twins separated at birth! One of these days when I make my last trip back to the "old country" (Wales), I might just make a detour to Italy. :)
Blue - sorry about your financial woes. A similar thing happened to me several years ago with a credit card company and it took ages to get my money back and only thanks to an attorney friend who went to bat for me. Interesting, isn't it, how corporations want to hold onto to our money?
Carol, you will do great with your employee. When I was in the business world, I would have loved to have you as my supervisor. :)
Ended Thursday high on calories, but OK on everything else. 1785 cal., 94 pr., and 56 ECC.

Amazing how you can not eat on this. I ate three meals. I wasn't hungry and I had a busy day of presenting (ugh). But didn't get hungry, not even at the end and didn't wake up hungry either.

Check this link:

Seach for bacon in barbeque sauce
open the link for page 138.
That'd work better, imho than whatever they are using out of a bottle.
This would make a ton more than you need. 6 cups vs. 3/4ths.
Same link, search for Coca Cola
Sub diet coke for coke
Buy a low sugar ketchup.
Makes 2.5 times what you need
For a twist, go with this sauce:
http://www.bbqu.net/season2/211_4.html#chimichurri
This would also be a nice twist:
http://www.bbqu.net/season2/201_4.html#mojo
Little carby, but it makes double what you need.
I am thinking about making this maybe. Would do a different sauce, maybe italian Arista rub. Maybe just bite the bullet on the sauce. You're talking 10+ serves and 3/4's of a cup of sauce total. Typical BBQ sauce is 90g to the cup. We're talking about 6-7g per serve if you do the recipe as written.
The recipe did come from "bbq addicts" website, so that could explain why so much bbq sauce, but I agree...no sauce, but a rub instead sounds good.

On second thought, I think you need something to cut the smoke and salt of the bacon and sausage. One way to go would be with a side of cole slaw. I personally like the idea of a simple chimichurri to go with it (olive oil, parsley, garlic, lime juice, chili flakes and water to thin it out).
This one sounds really good and more traditional:
http://solitarydancer.wordpress.com/2007/09/17/bruces-bourbon-bbq-sauce/
Not a big fan of SF maple syrup. I might splurge on the carbs and go with real maple, only in a half serve.

Lotta ways to go. I wouldn't touch an Alabama (or Ohio) white sauce with your tongue, but each to his own.
