FOR ALL OF US TODAY'S EXPERIENCES ARE TOMORROW'S MEMORIES
I've often tried to jot down daily the things which I feel are important or even just interesting. Since I began interacting with you all here in the forum it seems that I am even SHARING these experiences with friends. It is really a nice feeling to be able to donate some of my life happenings with others and to hope that these experiences of mine might be remembered by someone else.
Today is a wonderfully cold and grey day. Madwoman you might say! No, actually for me a cold and grey day means non work in the grove and lots of R&R to read, knit my vest, go to a store and see what's available even if I'm not going to buy anything, walk in town without any plans.
PP is going great . Meals today are simple and comforting.
Breakfast: eggs and cottage cheese warmed in micro into which I crumbled an almond scone
Lunch: roast beef or stewed rabbit
Dinner: turkey roast with some stewed greens
snacks: don't know. Maybe an egg custard with cream and a little milk
Supplements: for sure
Water: my usual 1.5 to 2 liters
Exercise: ?????
Have a good Sunday folks!

Good morning, Puddin. Thank you for starting things off this morning. That's a nice thought to start the month - to focus on doing things that will be good to remember.

'Now' is the operative word. Everything you put in your way is just a method of putting off the hour when you could actually be doing your dream. You don't need endless time and perfect conditions. Do it now. Do it today. Barbara Sher I Could Do Anything If I Only Knew What It Was
Welcome to the Basics +1 February challenge. Carol (Gitfiddle) will still be leading this challenge, I am only pinch-hitting on weekends so she can get a lay in. Carol has outlined the challenge here: http://www.proteinpower.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6772 (http://www.proteinpower.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6772). If you haven't already decided on your plan for this next month NOW is the time to do it.
Now is all we have – yesterday is long gone and tomorrow? – well, tomorrow won't be here until it is “now” again. Don't let your fear of not being perfect keep you from working towards your dream of better health, weight loss, fitness, vitality, or whatever your dream is that brought you here to the Protein Power WOE.
I'm going to date myself here, but “Today is the first day of the rest of your life.” It might be a goldie-oldie saying but it is still as true today as it was in the '70's.
My plan for February, besides continuing to follow the principles of PP and find my personal ECC level for maintenance will be to get more sunshine. I've been reading on the benefits of vitamin D, especially for diabetics, so have committed to being outside in sleeveless blouse and shorts for at least 30 minutes any day the temps are manageable. And in Texas, that is about 2/3rd the time, even in February.

Sunshine Vitamins. When I was a kid growing up in Florida we got plenty of it and now that I'm here in Italy I'm just continuing the old habits. Great that in Texas you can enjoy all that sun!
I didn't remember that you were supposed to start out :p.
I'm going to work on the new recipe for this week and then post it. Saw an incredible stew made with collards and meat. It looked right up our alley: lots of really good chunks of meat (lamb, pork or even beef chunks ) all cooked in a wonderful stew with sauteed onions, garlic, fresh herbs and collard greens which were previously boiled a couple of minutes. I'll do it then write amounts etc. I'm really looking forward to this challenge. Also want to 'invent' a PP chocolate. Have the confectionary tins, have the chocolate 85% and now will work out something for all of us to enjoy.
Have a good rest of Sunday. We're in the middle of a tremendously cold weather pattern. All of northern Italy from the French side to the Adriatic will be under snow all today and tomorrow. Then rain and real bone chilling cold. I can see you all:rolleyes::rolleyes: but believe me that in the area around Turin etc north the temps are hitting -10°C. Had to turn on the heaters a minute ago because the house was at 17°c - a bit too chilly even with the woodchugger going.

I tried to get in and delete my posting, but an hour had gone by -- I went back to bed after getting us started this morning, not realising that Puddin had already done so. Everyone please ignore my start and go with Puddin's. We'll eventually get on the same page! :D (See what happens when Carol sleeps in!)

By the time Carol gets here she'll be able to figure it out. Glad that you didn't get to cancel your thread cus it is a great statement. Now is experience time which we donate to ourselves and our friends then the memories of the now become a part of everyone's present and future.
As I mentioned to Belfrey...we're 6 hours ahead of you all so when I wrote it was 3 in the morning and you all were sleeping (except Amy who proabably was winding down from all that dancing) ;)

Morning all. I've been up for a while and poked my head in earlier, but was too asleep to post. ;)
I only ever saw the one thread, I think Janet may have merged them before I realized there were two.
Bills, laundry, grocery shopping and getting my DD's classes picked out for next year are on today's agenda.
Currently 34 degrees here in SC. We're actually having a winter this year, I love it!
I woke up feeling bloated (still do in my face actually) not real sure why. Hopefully it will fade soon.
Breakfast was 3 hard boiled eggs (with butter salt and pepper), 4 slices of bacon and a cup of tea with cream and splenda.
Lunch will be a turkey/roast beef wrap (lettuce, mayo, cheese and pepper)
Dinner is in the slow cooker, pot roast (if I have any potatoes at all it will just be the equivilant to 1/2 of a small one will see what happens at dinner).
I'm sure there will be cheese, tuna and almonds in my day as well, there always is. :D

Good morning all, kidlet #3 has a dentist check up right away so I can't be long. Yep a dentist that works on Sunday morning, GO FIGURE!!
We are going out for breakfast after I will have an omlette and coffee.
Lunch is undecided and so is dinner, very topsy turvy day here. I get to curl two games this afternoon and evening, as our team is in the finals. So 4 hours of curling will require some serious calories, just not sure how I will acquire them yet. I know I should have planned, but it didn't work out.

Sure sounds like you are having a balmy winter in your end of the States. It is perfect weather to use a slowcooker for a comforting, hot, stew.

Just starting out a Sunday with a dentist appointment would send me over the hill. No doctors dentists or others work on weekends here in Italy.
Serious calories for that much curling... you could make it a 'steaky' day! Good luck in the tournament!
Good morning ladies today is the day every man wakes up with a smile on his face. Why you may ask, because it is super bowl sunday of course. Ive been preparing for this for three days. :DThat means that you'll be glued to the TV! Superbowl is something which I have really missed since I live in Europe. My DSL is probably going to the coffeehouse which has a huge screen TV to watch it. But they're in Florence!
Good lunch for you guy! That beer sure sounds good (mgd64 is beer right - ;)):p After living in Italy for 34 years I'm sort of out of contact with the product names

Had a few days off plan. Ended January with about 10 pounds gone. Goal for February is PP with an emphasis on quality protein and getting enough of it, am also adding strength training at least two days a week. My one extra thing will be not weighing myself for a whole month. This is a long term investment in my health and well-being, not some get-rich-quick scheme. I will go by how my clothes feel and maybe measurements. NEAN is going to be my watchword this month. No excuses, no room for zooming off in the wrong direction.
Breakfast will be a protein shake, lunch will be double burger, no bun. Dinner will be chicken and cauli casserole.
I'm off to wake up the boy so he can get ready for church. A great Sunday to you all.

After living in Italy for 34 years I'm sort of out of contact with the product names
This made me laugh, Puddin--the first time we came back from Italy--after only 2 years away from the States-- my friend (a strict non drinker) went some where and ordered a white soda. The server asked if Mountain Dew would be alright and Donna, all incensed, said "No Thank you, I don't drink."-- She thought it was some sort of "white lightning " or something. We all got a chuckle out of it, but I had never heard of the stuff either til we got home. And as I said, that was just a two year absence!!
Now, back to business-- great quotes from both of you ladies today. I'm sure ms Carol appreciated the chance to sleep in today. One of you --in another post--mentioned you must be twins and I'm beginning to believe it as when you read the quotes you both used they follow the same theme !! How did ya do that???
I am going to try my very best to live and enjoy the "now" this whole month so I can have memorable tomorrows.
Good morning! (I'm new; introduced myself on the first February 1 challenge thread.) I'm still recovering from surgery (hysterectomy two weeks ago) so I'm not 100% yet; please bear with me!
My plan for breakfast this week is to have breakfast muffins (sausage, eggs, cheese, green onions) but my groceries haven't come yet, so today was an Atkins shake. Lunch will be chicken salad on lettuce, dinner will be salmon and asparagus. I have deli turkey and cheese on hand for snacks. My +1 to the basic challenge will be to focus on fresh vegetables for carbs.
I'm near Washington, D.C. and it's very sunny today. We may have snow this week. It's a real winter here, too, and I'm glad. We've had winters where you barely need a winter coat.

It was me who mentioned that to BCarol. Funny bit that both of us had the samish kind of theme. In any case Carol got to rest more and I get to play moderator...at least until it's time for me to go to sleep and you guys are getting ready for dinner.
Living the now for memorable tomorrows is sure great. I wish you lots of moments to remember (and hopefully to share)

Certainly remember you and wish you the very best for a fast and perfect recovery! Focusing on fresh veggies for the challenge is perfect. It is so important for us to eat fresh veggies, herbs etc within our ECC limits obviously. We should all remember to also vary our veggies herbs etc so that we can get all of the nutrients etc that they have. Attention in cooking is important also...steaming, quickblanching etc are wonderful because these two methods keep in the flavour, the nutrients, vitamins etc.
Washington DC...how lucky you are to be near the White House! A real winter with snow is super. I'm sure that those of you who are whited-out will disagree with me totally:p
Oh Puddin...I was in bed by TWO THIRTY, so I just missed your 3am post!
:p
Had a great time dancing lsat night, getting in exercise.
I have had a hard time deciding on my +1 for February. With an 8day trip and a late holiday party all within a 28day month, I struggle.
Sun is not an option for me :peeved:. So ultimately, I think it will have to be exercise. I know that should be a "regular" but since it's not for me, it will have to be +1. AND it's something I can (will) do while on the ski vacation.
I have six things on my to do list today. Nothing too time consuming but all things I put off during the week and have to cram in on Sundays. I will get out of bed right after this and get busy so I'm done by the time GF gets home (just in time for the Super Bowl). I think I'll rent a movie. I have never been into the game or the commercials, so why start now.
OH, I got a flier in the mail yesterday listing local restaurants and one of them was a pizza place THAT HAS LOW CARB PIZZA!!! How fun! I'm going to call and see if it's a cheese crust, or if it's a bready crust that is lower in carbs. Cross your fingers for the cheese crust!!
9am 2lc scones
10am 6oz pork roast, 2oz cooked onions
2pm 2 turkey brats mustard on toasted flatout
6pm 1/2 frozen cheese crust pizza with mushrooms and extra meat
Pro: 156
Ecc: 33
Fat: 131
Cal: 1628
I'l have to verify the numbers for the pizza once I add my 'extras'. The pizza itself is low onprotein and not too high in cals, but I add topings, so we'll see how it actually turns out cal-wise.

Wow we're prolific today... not even noon on the EC and we're up to 3 pages on a Sunday!
I've started re-reading the orignal PP book, just through the intro and CH 1 so far this morning. I do most of my reading in bed at night so the daytime bits will be short ones. I had to take a break and do the time-warp when the song came up in my background music. ;) 4 minutes of exercise too.
Think I'll grab some cheese and work on my paperwork here for a while.

Thank you, Puddin! (I will try not to be jealous of you for living in Italy. :) )
Vegetables are one of my biggest challenges. I love them when someone else cooks them, but I've never developed a repertory for cooking them. I was a vegetarian, once, for five years, but I was a French bread, butter and cheese vegetarian rather than a vegetable vegetarian, alas. I'm lucky that we have an excellent salad bar at work, so at least lunch will be easy!
Amy, I think dancing all night counts as exercise :)
Sunday is a work-at-home day for me, preparing for the week and catching up on correspondence from the week before. But it's nice to be able to do it at home, with all the Sunday morning talk shows on in the background :)

I turn my back on you guys for ONE morning and you all wake up in the mood for conversation!:lol::tongue: On a Sunday, no less! 'Course it is the first day of the February Challenge and I'm tickled to see everybody up for it.
By the time I stumbled down the stairs, I knew BC would have started, so I had my coffee with my feet up in my chair. I'm glad you merged the threads, Janet.
I'm on my second coffee with Kailua flavoring and real cream. Brunch will be some bits of beefsteak cooked slowly with some seasonings. Then it's late Mass and a stop at the museum to see the photo contest entries. I didn't win anything and I've been told the competition was stiff, so I'm looking forward to seeing them all.

Very talkative she says, writes her little paragraphs and leaves...;). Hey, remember that at 7 pm my time, that's 1 in the afternoon over there, my shift expires! DH will be home for dinner and if I'm still sitting here tapping away he'll have a DHissy...of course dinner is ready cus there were lots of leftovers yesterday. Always plan that way so that on Sunday I don't have to cook a lot. Just made myself some leftover veggies and turkey stew. DH has some of that collard soup and the rabbit to finish. Then if he's still starving (after a day in the country he usually is) he can chow down on some gorgonzola (which I will happily take a huge tablespoonful and just die over).

morning, all!
making morning by just a few minutes here;)
dh & I just got back from walking - not quite sure what the temps are - high 20s I think, so it was a brisk walk:D
breakfast good, but late - 9:30 ish, not sure what lunch will be, but it'll be something smallish, more of a snack, 'cos dinner is at 5 PM.
friends coming over for the super bowl, and rather than eat at half time with pre dinner snacking, we'll eat pre and I won't be so tempted to veer from my prechosen snack of pepperoni with cheese
dinner will be tacos, which, with a lc sauce is perfect - lettuce, bit of onion, meat, cheddar and/or monterey jack - I don't eat the shells, don't like them anyway :D

Reading through threads of the people who are watching the Superbowl I noticed a recurrent theme - recreational eating and the problems it causes!!!
I think that you have given us a good way of not having that problem - eat a good meal before the game, have a prechosed snack LC obviously which you can enjoy whenever....and as I said before....let the best team win!!!!

well, just finished "lunch". It ended up being a nice sized portion of shrimp salad. Not store bought, who knows what is in it shrimp salad, but DH's famous, delicious shrimp salad.
DH is a shrimp NUT! He is so fussy about the shrimp he buys. Will almost never buy anything smaller than under 15 - which is 15 shrimp to 1 pound.
Usually buys, I think, under 12s or under 10s - brain freeze. Not tiger shrimp, not from the Mid East, Far East or Africa - Mexican or Costa Rican is ok. He knows the difference and I can actually say I taste the difference.
He'll use 5 lbs of shrimp, whites from 2 hard boiled eggs, drops of fresh squeezed lemon juice, bit of vinegar, salt, pepper, 2 stalks of celery, and mayo. That's it. So, except for the celery and lemon juice, which is minimal, AOK. Most of the shrimp is in nice sized chunks, but maybe 1/2 lb or less is finely chopped. Delicious. If you've ever eaten it, you can't ever enjoy anyone else's.

Wow! What a talkative group today! I love to see such energy, especially at the beginning of a new month and new challenge.
We had a benefit lunch today for a resident who was in a very bad auto accident. The lunch was spaghetti and there were all kinds of wonderful gooey desserts. I asked for a triple order of salad and a serving of green beans, and almost got out of there without anything carby when a buttermilk pie caught my attention. In keeping with my new resolve, I ate three bites -- period. That's the power of living in "now" for me -- I didn't wish I could have had more, I didn't take any home for later (as I would have done previously). I thoroughly enjoyed my three bites and then got the heck out of there before temptation took me over!
My day ended up with 1450 calories, 97 protein, and 56 ECC. And I got in about an hour of sunshine. Have a great evening, everyone.

Evenin' all. I guess most of you are watching football. My football season ended a month ago ;)
Good job on the resisting BC, I don't think I could've done it.
I may regret upping my protein minimum... squeaked by today. Never thought I'd have a problem getting my protein. But then again, I get less with breakfast on the weekends since I make a point of having FOOD and not a shake like I do during the week.
I did have 1/4 of a potato with my dinner and had plenty of carbs to spare. Had some Lindt with my almonds this afternoon as well.
So for the day:
Protein: 135 grams - yes
Carbs: 35 grams - yes
Supplements: taken
Water: 96 ounces - yes (may have more before bed too)
Reading: yes with more to come once I go to bed
Got a lot done around the house today too, but I never made it to Sam's to finish my grocery shopping which means tomorrow's dinner plans went out the window. :( DD1 grabbed the wrong set of keys to go to church this afternoon and the key to my car on the other keyring is so bent it won't work so I was stuck at home. By the time she got home it was too late to go. Meeting at school tomorrow too so it may be easier to just eat out... just gotta watch what I order.
I have now managed a full 7 days with no slips! :D

Made it through the first day with an ECC of 30!
I think the hardest part of this will be not weighing every day!
Hope everybody had a terrific beginning!
Jazzy
Made it through day 1! I spent the whole day cooking -- first time in years. But I'm set for the week.
I'm well under 30 ECC; took supplements; moderate exercise; 4 fresh vegetables!!!; I don't have protein grams (my books haven't come yet; I'm using the 30-day book) but I fit within those guidelines (number of ounces per meal).
[Blush] I posted something similar on the other February challenge thread.
Protein: on target for the 30-day book plan
Carbs: <30
Water: 62 ounces
Supplements: The PP ones, plus magnesium
Exercise: some :) (recovering from surgery)
Cooking: lots!
Add fresh vegetables and fruits: 4 fresh vegetables
Wow!! So much going on today! A Sunday!
Steelers just won. I wouldn't know that except GF came to bed to and "snuck" the remote so she could watch the last few minutes!
Oh well...
I was preparing and filing my taxes, so I don't care. I am hoping to get my refund before our ski vacation in 14days! Refund says it should arrive within 10 days, but we'll see...

[Blush] I posted something similar on the other February challenge thread.
I see that, and I took the liberty of moving your post as well as Sharon's and Jazzy's. The titles were quite similar. Hope you don't mind!

Wow. That was too much for reading on Monday morning.
Quick tip, you can respond to more than one post at once. If you like quoting people, you can use the multiquote tool (the little quotation marks to the right of the Reply button) and later use the post reply to quote everything you wanted to comment on. Of course, you are always welcome to trim quotes as well. Not nagging, just saying.
Good morning ladies today is the day every man wakes up with a smile on his face. Why you may ask, because it is super bowl sunday of course.
Speak for yourself. I will spare everyone my rant against professional football and all it's evils (monopoly against America via NFL Network, creative stifling, and cog like game play) and against the Stupor Bowl in general (I don't care about Pittsburgh or Arizona, aside from the fact that the AZ QB is a fanatical Christian who campaigned against stem cell research in Missouri, and the idea of people tuning in for the premier of commercial messages is vaguely sickening, and I kind of majored in marketing). I did not watch the game. I did watch Bruce Springsteen at the half (miracle "flip-to" timing) and thought he was pretty good. That's the closest I'm ever going to come to seeing Springsteen and the E-Street Army live. My interest will never be up to the cost. Thought Prince was better last year, but am probably in the minority among white Americans on that subject.
Made it through the first day with an ECC of 30!
I think the hardest part of this will be not weighing every day!
Congrats on Day 1. They get harder for a bit, then a lot easier.
That's probably the same thing with the scale. I wouldn't know. The scale doesn't make me nuts, so I weigh everyday, but understand folks who don't.
For me, food looked like this:
Pro: 145
Carbs: 35
T-Cal: Acceptable
Water: Dandy
Exercise: Coming
Dinner was a ribeye steak topped with minced garlic that I ran under the oven while cooking the steak. After pulling the steak from the pan, there was all this garlic and pepper and beef stuff, so I broke out the sherry, deglazed the pan, added some cream, whisked it up, and thought, it could use a little something else... so soy sauce. Damn that was good. If they don't eat that bacon explosion in Heaven, this is what they eat.

Sure were a talkative group yesterday! I really enjoyed reading all of it. Sort of a catch-up on everyone's journey on Day 1:
Maxl: If your ears burned it was because I had a roaring laugh when I read that you 'ran your garlic under the oven'...tried picturing your garlic with little potatoe head legs and itty bitty running shoes. Then I realized that you meant 'under the grill'...hey, I've been out of the States for a Looooong time. Thankx for the info about the multiple quote! I always forget to click on things to see what they are.:p

I was going to say broiler, but the over was on at 350*F, so it was really run through the oven on top of the steak.
