You don't make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas.
Shirley Hufsteddler
How frustrated were we before we found Protein Power? The diets that seemed to work for other people didn’t work for us. When I began eating low-carb I had success that I had never seen before! This idea works for me on so many levels!
Breakfast will be a protein shake. Lunch will be sausage patties with some carrots. Dinner will probably be old dead chicken. ;)

You can sure say that again! Sidelines schmidelines...since I found PP I think that the world of nutrition plans has simplified 1000%. In any case, jumped in and have been 'trying' to keep the plan going.
And this is the part where you begin to see your weaknesses. But that will be another thread somewhere...
Today's meals were simple:
Breakfast prosciutto crudo
Lunch baked salmon steak (fresh) and an ittybittyteenytiny apple and kiwi even smaller
Dinner either eggs or that other piece of baked salmon if DH doesn't want it and salad
Snack ???

I only just started PP but I am very excited that this diet is going to work for me and that this is going to be a healthly way to eat for a lifetime. I succeeded dieting before, but I always looked at a diet as just that, a short term fix, and always reverted back to my old terrible eating habits, which always led to gaining weight back. Never again. I have made that committment to myself. I have stopped whimpering on the sidelines and have definetly implemented my long term goals.
One thing I have found starting PP is my severe lack of energy...but I heard this can happen in the beginning. I am trying to be patient and am definetly not talking about giving up, I am just hoping within a couple of weeks my energy will return.
Thank you everyone for your encouragement to my post yesterday. It is absolutely wonderful to have this kind of support.
B: Egg Whites, Boneless skinless chicken breast
L: Shrimp Salad
D: Tuna
Prot: 78.3g
Carb: 3.0g
Fat: 4.2g
Supl: Multi Vitamin
Water: 4 glasses
I tried exercising yesterday - could not do it. I think I am going to not focus on exercising for a couple of weeks so I do not feel like I am failing and will incorporate exercise again when my energy returns.

I did not have this problem of other diets not working. I had the problem more of being a picky eater, so a low fat diet with a lot of salad style meals didn't work for me. I would lose then get bored.
Not to say that I don't get bored on low carb. But, it's more my own fault for falling into easy patterns and not stretching the flavor enough.
At any rate, back to the field of play. Today is day 3. I was cranky last night (means I'm doing it right... always cranky on night 2 and day 3).

Thats the way to do it Dutchess. Your body has to adjust to burning a new fuel and it isn't used to it yet. Give it some time and start in moderately when you feel more energetic. I really got a feeling of euphoria when I got into it a bit.
I like your attitude about making this a lifestyle, not a diet. It puts the focus just where it ought to be.

Great quote, Carol. I spent most of my life on the sidelines in one way or another, and as I aged became bolder in deciding not to stay there. That is especially true of health issues.
Tonight is Bible Study and I am the cook, so am preparing a green salad, and a kind of Italian venison pasta *something* with all kinds of good LC veggies and Dreamfields pasta. I'll take a portion for me without the pasta as even Dreamfields raisies my BS too high. Dessert will be homemade pound cake for the non-diabetics, and a sugar-free version for those of us who can't have sugar.
So, my plan is: Breakfast-- LC flax bread with cheese and 1/2 grapefruit. Lunch -- leftover Brunswick stew and apple. Supper as described above. I'm sure I'll also get in some dark chocolate. No sunshine today as it is cloudy.

We are having a nice day here so far, but they are predicting rain again later today. DH and I are going to try to get in some golf with a friend of ours.
In the Mon. thread I mentioned my skunk odor problem and asked for any ideas how to rid our house of the smell--I'm burning candles, used a spray and mopped in bleach water. It is worse in the bathroom where I bathed the dog. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Off to get out of the house (yippee--for two reasons) and get some nice exercise outdoors for a change.
Implementation...I love it!
Meals are planned...evening is scheduled...day is full.
7am 2almond scones
8:30 hamburger quesedilla with s.cream/salsa
12pm lc lasagna, 3oz pickles
3:30pm iced latte, 2-3oz cheese, bran crackers
6pm chix fried rice (cauliflower instead of rice)
Pro: 154.9
Ecc: 34.1
Fat: 147.4
Cal: 1893

just in case you need to find products which take that ooohhhhhChannel5 from your house. Lots of good ideas which I hope work. We luckily don't have skunks in the area!:D
Happy birthday Max!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I just crawled out from under to say that!
Max, I thought your birthday was.... days ago! I think that's when I wished you! Must have been multitasking again. Topic shift: I lost weight on low cal diets, just didn't stay on them, and gained it all back. I know I'd still gain weight back (done it) on this diet, but I feel like I could do it for life, unlike low cal.
Jazzy, that's a plan. Nice round numbers.
(((Karole))) I'd have fans blowing, which helped when my freezer died. Febreeze on the furniture and curtains? And carpet! Good luck, my dear.
BC, you certainly are not on the sidelines here! You shine!
Heather, I think it's suggested somewhere that you don't start exercising right away, so you don't have to feel guilty. Wait until your energy level gets up there.
Everything's going smoothly today and I got a lot done. I'm leaving shortly to go exercise. I need to figure out what to do with the chicken for dinner.

We celebrated early. Today is the actual national holiday. Oddly, I didn't get it off work.

Carol,
funny, I was just thinking the same thing. I get so Pi$$ed pff reading about mainstream diets - when they criticize lc without every really knowing anything much about them, just going on assumptions and then saying "this one" is better because ... and again, it's not a legitimate criticism ...
and lc works for me ...
well.
it's when I don't work for lc that I fail, not that lcarbing has ever failed me.
breakfast was odd for me:cool:
1 cup of Greek yogurt with 1 splenda in it
10 slices of pepperoni.
I know it's not enough protein, but, I ate it much later than I normally eat
lunch was the rest of the ham steak and 2 small strips of chicken breast
snack was 6 slices of pepperoni - again, I know, not the greatest thing in the world, but it works
dinner - I'm trying something totally new for me. Something I've never made before and love to eat the non lc version - although it's not a particularly high carb dish, anyway -
tada moussaka or is it mousakka?
I used 2x the amount of meat (and used chopped beef, not lamb - can't stand lamb) and 1/4 the amount of eggplant - sliced it very thin.
It's cooking right now.
I'll let y'all know how it comes out.
better day today. I don't know why. Although dropping 4 lbs of water during the day and (unfortunately during the night:eek:) yesterday surely helped my frame of mind.

:: crawls in from under a rock ::
Had a rough couple of days lately. Both Sun and Mon started on plan, ended up off. I'm back into a "need to go to the store" state and hurt my foot on Sunday (stupid cedar chest jumped right out in front of me :o) so I haven't felt like hoofing it around Sam's and Kroger this week.
Much better today, though I had one of my headaches (which means I did something right I think ;) ). A hair over on carbs because I'm out of my usual protein powder and cottage cheese for my shake so I'm using what I have left of my Myoplex packets and they're 20/packet (and 42 grams of protein!).
So for the day:
Protein: 140
Carbs: 59
Water: 112
Supplements: yes
Reading: well I've been reading, just not PP  Really having a hard time getting into it this time. I think I'll grab the CDs I have for the Lifeplan Pyramid thing and listen in the car instead.
I haven't totally blown my 4 week goal yet, but I have to buckle down or I will.
'becca
Finished eating today.
It was a good day.
I skipped the iced coffee but added some nuts at the end of the day which increased my calories, but I'm still happy with the day.

So how much L-glutamine should I be taking?
