Man's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.
Oliver Wendell Holmes

You know what you know. You can go back to the carbs, but you’ll always know what the ultimate effect will be. When I became a mother, I put lc way on the back burner and ate to handle the stress. Twenty year later when the doctor described PP I could have hugged him. I had forgotten how good life is when I’m taking care of myself. I like to think I’m older and wiser now. Hmmmmm…….

Think about what you know.

Breakfast will be a mango/ginger shake. Lunch will be a serving of meat & veg casserole. Dinner may be more pork chops if I can cook them differently than yesterday.

Great thought Carol. The elasticity of our minds when kept working through exercise, which means learning and experiencing new things, is definitely mind boggling. Would be super if the docs here prescribed PP. The comment this morning from a girl who is visibly overweight while she eyed my beautifully sliced pancetta affumicata (bacon Italian style) ' aren't you lucky you can eat fats, you'e so thin!' Was thrilled to hear the thin part but the rest was just old hash which, unfortunately, I can't delve into in this part of the world where CARBS are king.

One of my biggest problems is that I look thin because I am 5.7 on big lanky bones. And that is where my little devil problem comes out too.I don't feel fat, I don't look overweight and hence...but I intend getting that extra weight off!:D

Today is a cold one with northern winds expected to help the wind chill factor go really low. Not heading outdoors today because I have some more windows to finish in the house. Darned place has 5 huge scenic windows which are definitely good exercise. Cleaning the glass reminds me of the scene in Karate Kid when he was, without him even knowing, working on arm strength while polishing all those cars...

Proteins today hovering around 120 or more
Ecc in the 20-30 slot
Supplements SURE
Exercise - windows galore
Water - 1.5 liters

What more can I add? Right, so far my little devil is being good. I ate my meals happily and correctly. Even had my ittybittyapple with a few almonds. It was a really good 'dessert'.

Puddin' are you absolutely sure you have more weight to lose? I'm only asking because so many people, women especially, focus on weighing a certain number on the scale rather than focusing on % body fat. Perhaps with your bone structure and the amount of physical activity you do, the weight you think you need to lose is actually lean mass (bones and muscle) and not fat. Only you know the answer to that, but it could be a part of why the last bit is such a stuggle, maybe it's not meant to really come off. PP has a nice section for computing goal weight (and it has nothing to do with BMIs or whatever).... strictly your LBM along with a healthy BF%.

Just my 2 cents there :) I can't go by BMI personally, my LBM is surprisingly high.. at one time I would've put a number even lower than that as my goal weight if I didn't know about the other stuff.

I'm dealing with a headache this morning.... it's getting worse and not better. I may cut work short today which will then put a kink in my plans to have tomorrow off. Will see how it goes.

Breakfast was a shake
AM snack will be cheese
Lunch will be salmon patties and baby carrots
PM snack - not in stone but most likely tuna, almonds, Lindt
Dinner is scheduled to be chicken fajitas

Back at work. Busy today. Have a very busy week coming up in two weeks, so I need to get clear before that. Have folks from DC coming, have a doctor's appointment, have a meet and greet with Rick Steves, Fleetwood Mac, and then driving down to St. Louis to see some college basketball with my MIL. It is coming, and I fear it.

Where is that section for computing goal weight? Have no idea where to look. Your info is certainly quite heartening. It would really be a scream if I don't have an ounce more to lose and all that mind torturing was just a venting of air to cool my tonsile:p. Will check out the site and see if I find that place you mentioned but in the meantime, maybe you could give me a clue as to where you saw it. Thankx

MAX...I'm really jealous. You actually get to greet and meet someone from Fleetwood. Wow!

Another full day here, but more relaxed than yesterday.
Today we head over to the Olympic Nordic ski trails that they just opened. It will be fun to see the place and say that we skied some of the trails (although I'm only going to ski the "easy" :o).

Then we research how I'm heaing up to the peak of Whistler to have lunch with GF, ride the Peak to Peak to Blackcomb and back, then back down to the ground. I think we'll do that on Thursday. She can ski that day, and I'll just meet her at the restaurant up on Whistler. Just have to figure out the prices.
There are a few other things we talked about doing, but there is no time. You can ride a snow cat while they groom, you can ride a ski limo (you sit in a wheelchair/sleigh and someone rides behind you and it's like you're skiing down the hill...but on your behind! That sounds very scary, but fun!! I think...:paranoid::o

No, we're going to see Fleetwood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fleetwood_Mac) (Classic Lineup minus Christine McVie... Not sure who is a more dysfunctional set of people... Fleetwood or the Eagles) and the day before, we're going to meet and greet Rick Steves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Steves), the Euro-guide book, TV host, Public Radio Host, guy.

The Eades have it in the original PP book - my copy starts on page 82 (I have the paperback) and continues through page 85, section titled "Your Ideal Body Weight".

First you have to know your LBM, which you should anyway to know how much protein to eat ;)

Ideal BF % (for women) per their table:

Age
10-30................... 20-26%
31-40....................21-27%
41-50....................22-28%
51-60....................22-30%
61 and older .......... 22-31%

Then comes the math....

Step 1: Subtract each of these percentages from 100:
100%-_____ % = and 100% - _____% =

Step 2: Divide your lean body weight (LBM) by each of the numbers from step 1:
LBM/____ = and LBM/______ =

Step 3: Multiply each of these answers from step 2 by 100:
__________x 100 = _______
your ideal weight is in this range

________x 100 = _________

I, personally, am aiming for approximately 25% BF, and it's easier for me to just take my LBM and divide by .75. That's a "close enough" way of doing it.

Hope this helps! I debated for over an hour this morning about whether to even make the comments that I did cuz I didn't want to come across as overly critical. But you seemed so distressed (in several of the threads) and since you said you don't look or feel overweight I thought it might be a case of expecting too much.

I'm on target for today... currently hungry so off to have my snack and then start chopping for fajitas before I get too tired.

Hi, I have been MIA for a few days, but here I am... I have been having personal issues. I am having a bit of depression.

I ate about 1600 calories today, but I'm still hungry. I think it's more in my head, I was getting used to grazing all the time and I've curbed that.

Hi, all! I've been reading but not enough free mind to comment today. I was wound up like an eight-day clock by the time I got to the gym. My exercise buddy was there (after a week away) and we caught up on stuff. I laughed my stress away. I even exercised! ;)

I had a surprise supper tonight. I picked up Burger King side salads, which are very generous, and added some antipasto ingredients for a killer salad. Followed up with two squares of Lindt 85% and I'm set for the night. I put the pot roast in for the boys. Leftovers will probably be my lunch tomorrow. I gave one of my co-workers the cauli-bake recipe and she came in today just raving about it. It's a real crowd-pleaser.

I am glad you got to stop by. Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. I hope that things will seem better tomorrow. Are you eating lc? I see you are counting calories - but, what about the carb count? That is what will keep you from being hungry.

Come back and have a good discussion on how and what you're eating.

I could have sworn I was here this morning! I wonder where I was? I obviously got lost! Stretchy minds, heh? I like that idea, and it is so true. Once we know something, it changes us -- for the good or ill, but we are changed.

As to goal weight, according to the insurance weight charts, I should weigh 125 (I'm 5'4"). Since my LBM is 107, that would put me at 8% fat unless I lost a bunch of muscle. I think not--at 60 yrs. old, I'm doing just fine with my 27% fat.

I am "interviewing" a family practitioner tomorrow in my quest to find a doctor who is open to helping me control my blood sugars close to non-diabetic range. I'm going armed with all kinds of data and reports -- I'll probably overwhelm the poor guy, but thems the breaks. Cross you fingers for me, please.

Ended up OK today with 93 protein and 53 ECC. No sunshine, even though it was promised. :(

Oh, and I was just looking at my avatar - that surely is one pudgy bat. I need to slim her down a bit, but she's so cute!

Final report of the evening... I'm feeling very sloshy tonight and I feel like I've spent most of the day trekking back and forth to the little girls room. Maybe I'm finally dumping last weeks weight gain. 136 ounces of water consumed today as well!

Protein: 148
Carbs: 48
Water: 136
Supps: yes
Reading: I actually did some last night and a bit again today. Will probably read more tonight too, I think I've done my quota of crosswords for a bit. My fav author has a book coming out a week from today though so that will be come "it" for a day or so (usually just the 1 day/night ;) )

Good luck finding a new doctor BC!

Yeah, my count was something like 24g ECC for today. I was eating well over 2,000 calories before, but I am trying to cut back on the emotional eating and eating higher fat foods like cheese.

Well, let me say this...
cross country skiing in the MOUNTAINS is MUCH tougher than in Minnesota!

OUCH!!
I have quite the bruise on my butt and I hurt my shoulder. The coracoacromial ligament. Went straight from the ski hills to the spa and had a massage, so the BACK of my shoulder doesn't hurt, but I stil lahve VERY sharp pain in the front. Oh well...I saw the TOP OF THE WORLD (that's the name of the ski trail).

I'm tried...and sore...and broke down and had a banana. It just looked so good. I also ate half the wrap of 1/2 of a wrap sandwich. It was our "post ski" lunch. That and a few carrots.
So, today, not so good, however, I had to fight REALLY REALLY hard not to get a pastry at Starbucks, or something salty when we were at the store shopping for icepacks.
I didn't get either...I had to fight, but so far I won.

(((AMY!))) At least you didn't break anything! You're doing great with the food, considering the circumstances. You're gonna hurt in the morning.....:( Take it easy, Hon.

((Amy)), with a vacation like that, I'd stay at work.

On plan again, with
Protein: 155
Carbs: ~20 (I track this, but there is so much fudge in the tracking, I estimate higher than what I count)
Cals: Good place
Water: Good
Plus 1: Read the intro, chapter 1 and part of chapter 2 of PPLP. Commuting and lunch do amazing things for your ability to read things.

For the year, that's 46/47 on plan, for 97.9%. France is going to drop that number a bit. Will have to be good between now and then.
