We must go beyond textbooks, go out into the bypaths and untrodden depths of the wilderness and travel and explore and tell the world the glories of our journey.
John Hope Franklin
I talk low carb with anyone who seems interested. Yesterday I was aware, when talking to my doc about blood work results, that she was a textbook-trained person. Since she was happy with my situation I saw no reason to preach. When she asked me about diet, I simply told her I avoided starches and ate mostly meat and vegetables and fruit. This is the first time in a couple of years she didn't mention starting on a statin, so I guess she wrote it down last time I said NO.
The usual shake for breakfast, roast beef for lunch, a mushroom-swiss burger for dinner.
Happy Friday, everyone! :) We've almost made it through another week!

Great quote, Carol. Like you, I tell folks I'm not eating starches or sugar and leave it at that. Most folks equate the way I eat with low glycemic, and I leave it at that, unless someone really seems interested in the nuts and bolts. Whenever I find a PP book at a thift shop for under $1, I buy it and so have extras on hand to give out to folks who are really interested.
I've found a primary care physician who agreed to put me back on Lantus (insulin) and thought my bolusing with R is just fine, so my bgs. should be back to normal in a couple of weeks when the Lantus gets here. In the meantime, I'm using R before each meal to try to keep as level as I can. He is textbook trained, so kept cautioning me about over controlling the blood sugars, but as long as he will prescribe what I need, I don't feel the need to share in detail what I'm doing diet-wise with him. That's what got me into hot water with the previous PCP.
Today will be busy as I have some Prayer Bead orders to get in today's mail. But it's a nice busy. I'll also work some outside cutting firewood so will get in sunshine. I'm going to eat a bit lighter today since I over-indulged the past two days, but I did have fun. Weight is holding steady, which is a complete surprise to me. :) I like this pre-maintenance thing!

Morning Everyone. Welcome home BC.
My doctor doesn't mind me doing LC as she can see the results. She thinks I eat too much fat, but it's hard to argue with lab results sometimes. She did write up orders to have my LDL size checked last year, but I never went and had it done as I had fallen off the wagon again at that point. I'm determined to stick to things this time around so will see what she says when I get around to scheduling my physical.
Breakfast was a shake.
I have cheese (snack) and meatloaf (lunch) packed for work.
Out of almonds so this afternoon could be tricky as I like some "crunch" with my tuna. We have p-nuts here, so that may have to do. The main thing will be to avoid DD2's bag of blue corn chips ;)
Dinner is suppose to be chicken tenders (modified the recipe to cut it from 11 carbs to 7.5 for 4 people and we're dividing it among 5 now) and "Individual Pumpkin Pies" (Eades recipe without the crust) as the veggie. Will see if that actually happens or not.
The DDs have to get to bed early (me too!) as we have to get up around 4:00 in the morning to get them to school by 5 so they can go to Charleston for a math competition. I am soooo not looking forward to tomorrow cuz I know I won't be able to get back to sleep when I get home from dropping them, but I'll be dragging all day.
Happy Friday!

It always amazes me how the majority of people I know are more accepting of a "low glycemic" or "eat right for your blood type" diet than a low carb diet, especially when those diets (imo) are not based on what I consider sound science, whereas a lc diet is all science-based. I think that people get very uncomfortable with science, whereas blindly believing in something is easier. I am the opposite.
My veterinarian: Well, Scooby's veterinarian: I started to go to a new clinic because my old one was ripping me off and I am pooooor. The new vet is 4 years younger than me and went to the same undergrad college, so we have this strange bond. Ok, I don't take him seriously as a vet because I have more experience with animals than he does, but he is very good looking and has done a tremendous job with Scooby's acupuncture. We disagree on nutrition. I play dumb and tell him I feed Scooby based on his recommendations, but I go home and feed Scooby based on my knowledge. He basically wants me to feed Scooby more grains, potatoes, and rice, and I am sooo opposed to that. Plus, Scooby clearly has "food allergies" (which I do not believe in, but that is a different story) to wheat and corn, so he cannot have the foods that the vet is insisting upon. So, instead of getting into a losing battle with someone who does have more education than me, I say one thing and do the other.

Sorry so short, I haven't had much time for the computer the last few days. Carol, I agree!!! No one knows are bodies better than ourselves, doctors have the text book knowledge about "general' information but our bodies are very complex and only we know what works. I believe the only way we know is through trial and error, most of us here have errored when we tried other ways of eating and knew it was wrong.
I have had doctors and other professionals (trainers) tell me "you need carbs for energy"!!!! What a crock! I have also had a doctor tell me that I am just meant to be fat!!!!! Again what a crock, I proved her wrong when I did PP.
Ladies and gentlemen, we know what works and we just need to do what is right for us!
Breakfast: shake
lunch flatout with tomato bacon, cheese and spinach
dinner: chicken and salad
Scale is back down again! Whoo hoo!

TFIG everyone! So glad to be home after a hellish week, things are now down to a more workable load. Chicago is preparing for 6 to 8 inches tonight, so I am making a trip after a meeting to get some fresh fish for dinner. And then to the gym as to my promist to myself to hit the gym all weekend. Down 5 lbs in total, not great but it is about health and commitment for me. It will all come when it comes, if I have those two things going!

I have dumped my doctor. I am kind of shopping, kind of not shopping for a new doctor. When I discussed LC with my doc in VA, he was skeptical. When I came in a couple months later with a lot of weight gone and about 4* the reduction in LDL that he was expecting from the weightloss, it became an issue of non-discussion. I did not talk about it with my doc here. I suspect she would have either been very hostile to it or very accepting. Hard to say without having talked to her. Next doc, it will either be something we don't talk about or something he or she is accepting of. I am not interested in fighting with my doc over food. Really not interested. I have enough things to talk about without that.
Same for others. I eat what I eat, I do not eat the things I do not eat. I am clear with people who might offer me food that I am controlling my weight and I do this with a fairly specific diet. If people want details, I refer them to the book. Once upon a time, when I first did LC, I was a big evangelist. I might not have been very good at it or it might be futile, either way, I got tired of talking through low fat walls.
Busy at work, so I'm back to it.

My doctor doesn't mind me doing LC as she can see the results. She thinks I eat too much fat, but it's hard to argue with lab results sometimes. It sure is. It does seem to induce cognitive dissonance in the health care provider, though. ;) Becca your menu sounds delicious to me right now, especially the pumpkin pies. Individual is the way I'd have to go or the knife would slice wide. :p

Very low! :D It seems to appease them when I say I eat "vegetables and fruit" and they don't seem to notice I'm missing "grains".

Up here along the lakeshore we're expecting to top the 100-inch mark tomorrow. Unfortunately, I have a music jam tomorrow afternoon down some long country roads. :paranoid: I'm SO ready for Spring!
I am not interested in fighting with my doc over food. Really not interested. I have enough things to talk about without that. Exactly. My business. I get tired of conflict.
My lunch changed to lc casserole because it was quicker to grab a frozen block in a ziplock bag. Work is swimming along and I learned some wonderful new things about our current accounting system that will streamline my days considerably. That puts me in a good mood! My bag is packed for the gym and there's nothing on the docket for this evening. Life is good!

I agree with everyone here in not over discussing diet with doctors. But when you have diabetes, you really don't have a choice. Most docs follow the American Diabetes Guidelines of 50-60% carbs, so I have to be very careful in my verbiage -- "Yes, I know the ADA guidelines, and I eat healthy carbs and fats with lots of veggies and fruit." Let the doc interpret that to his or her liking. I was put on the spot one time when asked by a doc "what did you eat yesterday?" Thankfully I'd had a LC wrap, so could honestly say "whole wheat bread". Whew! Close call.
Have a great rest of the day, folks. :)
