Sometimes you have to take a half step back to take two forward.
Vince McMahon

It’s like a dance step; the eternal shuffle while making progress slowly. That’s why we have steps other than eating as part of the challenge! If a focus on learning new things brings us to understanding how it works, we’re stepping forward. If a new exercise gives us renewed enthusiasm, we’re stepping forward. Plus it keeps us coming together. :)

How are you going to step forward today?

For breakfast, I'll have my usual protein shake. Lunch will be sausage and V8 again. Dinner will be chicken something.

Morning Carol.

I guess last night's dinner was my step back. :)

Actually given my past eating habits when I'm putting on weight, if I only have one off dinner a week that's a lot of progress. I'm always LC the first 2/3 of the day, it's the late afternoons and dinner's that get me, even when I'm not active here.

Scale was up 2 this morning from yesterday, but the same as it was Sunday and Friday so not too bad really. Think most of it is in my sinuses too, or sure feels that way.

I have to be the taxi today so that will add to the stress load. Good thing it's a planned off day in the exercise department.

Breakfast will be a shake, wrap for lunch, either fajitas or meatballs for dinner (depends on if I'm up to chopping for fajitas). Cheese, tuna and almonds as usual for snacks.

I'm stepping out just fine. Haven't had a half step back this week, but I have no doubt it will happen -- such is life.

I haven't snacked the past three days other than the one buit-in one. But it's difficult when I'm around nuts. Ended up putting them up in a cabinet so I have to THINK before grabbing. I'm half-way through the prologue in GCBC, but will need to pick up the pace if I'm to finish the book in a month.

Not much planned today except to prepare for Bible Study tonight and go to the bank and Post Office. Have a great day, everyone! :)

I am with you BC I think "nuts" to nuts!

I am headed to the gym in just a few minutes for some cardio and upper body. Working from home today, I have lots to do but decided before I settle into work I am making a visit to the gym.

Last night we had stir fry with the everything cooked in some coconut oil. Tonight is a pork loin roast with salad and not sure what else.

Have a great day everyone and lets all take those steps forward!

Lot's of good things to think about today, Carol. Thanks for that quote. In my line dancing class we do one titled "One Step Forward and Two Steps Back so I am familiar with that way of doing things !:D:D

I decided to work myself forward by tweaking my March challenge a bit. I am going to keep my daily calorie total under 1800. I've noticed I was over that many, many days last month and even though I stayed at or under 40 carbs I didn't lose anything and in fact put on a pound.:crybaby:We'll see how this strategy works for this month. Can't hurt.

Good morning!

I have not posted here for a while, but after lurking the last few days, I realized how much I missed being a part of this wonderful, positive group. I hadn't really gone back totally to my old way of eating, but I could see some old habits creeping back into my lifestyle and figured that I better grab hold of myself and put a stop to that right now.

Thankfully, my local Whole Foods now stocks Jay Robb protein powder, so I loaded up on that and I've also been hearing my DH mumble about his middle as well. So away we go!

Breakfast today will be a protein shake. Lunch, tuna with mayo and lettuce. Dinner will be burgers and asparagus. For Christmas, DH got me a Cuisinart Griddler and I absolutely love that.

I'm thinking of getting some boneless, skinless chicken breasts today. My new favorite thing is to season them, bake them and keep them wrapped in the fridge so they are there for wraps or salads.

May I also add that I've had to step away from the nuts as well. I hear them calling my name sometimes, but I just don't listen!

Have a great day everyone!

How are you going to step forward today?
All these very successful people are always on about needing to fail before they could succeed. And really, this is my beef with a lot of the singers on American Idol (which I am not watching religiously this year, but not NOT watching). The young ones do not have that second level of emotional information to pull on. While they may have had hard lives (or easy suburban lives, or something inbetween), they haven't had enough to really inform a great love song.

And there it is. When I did Atkins the first time in 2001, it was easy and I thought of it as a diet that would end. And that's what it was. When I restarted in 2003, I think I had the same thought process, but I knew it was harder, so I was maybe a bit better. When I came back to it after business school, even better. And the run in 2006 when I first came to government, that lasted about 7 months of hard core, and about a year of slacked maintenance, I was even better. But each one ultimately failed. Here I am, in my 5th real go around at this. I have learned more each time. So, let's make the great leap forward, instead of just two steps.

I am with you BC I think "nuts" to nuts!
When I do nuts, I figure a serving, measure it out, put it in the cap of the nut container, and when the cap is empty, the cap goes back on. That is the only way I can avoid face down in the nuts.

I do almonds, pretty much exclusively, as they are the best protein/carb ratio among nuts that I have found. That helps.

Max,

When I do eat nuts, I stick with almonds as well and have gotten into the habit of counting them before I eat since I buy mine in larger containers.

2 steps forward and 1 behind - chachacha...hoping that the forward motion continues more than the backward one.

Nuts - as I mentioned somehwere I dumped the cashews into the garbage because they are impossible to count out and eat sparingly. I :crybaby: when they hit the garbage but you know what, I do feel better now that they're gone. At least the temptation is out of my reach. Almonds are definitely the best fiber ECC and protein type nuts. Someone mentioned macademias but with what they cost here in Italy I'll stick to almonds. Funny bit is that lately we're getting only US almonds. Wonder where the Italian ones went?

Today was opthmologist afternoon - eye problem is only a little stretching of something or other which could some day (not now fortunately) pull the retina out of place. Just what I need right. In any case for now I'm ok. Eyes are finally becoming normal again. Drops in both and anesthetic in the right one. Felt like a mole in the sun...squinting and couldn't see a thing. Good thing by the time I got on the train to come home I was able to see it.

Breakfast scone and speck
Lunch roast turkey meat and 1/2 apple
Dinner roast turkey and cabbage and maybe that other half apple

I think I am allergic to peanuts :( I had a LC peanut butter sandwich for lunch and almost immediately after I started to get a headache. Then I felt increasing sinus pressure, and finally, a sore throat. It is starting to go away, but I just made the connection. I have a lot of food allergies and I just ignore them because I like food too much. I had the same sort of reaction to crab, but I still like crab!

Anyways, I was very good yesterday and I continue to be good today. I have been cooking a greater variety of foods from scratch. Last night I had my LC chicken parm, and today I put together some LC yogurt to have later in a shake. I will also bake LC muffins and a cheesecake, and I will have flounder for dinner, breaded with spicy almond flour.

Today was opthmologist afternoon - eye problem is only a little stretching of something or other which could some day (not now fortunately) pull the retina out of place.
I had something similar and it was because my right eye was very nearsighted, which elongates the eyeball to the point where everything has to stretch. I always wondered if I could have done something to keep it from going that far.

Anyways, I was very good yesterday and I continue to be good today. I have been cooking a greater variety of foods from scratch. Amy, if you can't make time to get to the gym, you can still do some at home, even if it's just a nice long stretch session!

I hear you, and I don't mean to sound negative...but last night I walked into the house at 8:45. By the time I prepared food and clothes for work today, it was 9:30 and time for bed.
Straight to bed so I can get up at 5:30am.

This shall pass...and I did really enjoy my weight workout on Sunday.

boy am I a crabby pants...

could be that I can't shake this headache.
I just made an appt with the eye doctor. Seems to be worse when I sit and stare at my computer all day :suspicious:
I have great vision, but wear reading glasses when looking at the computer to help my eye's "relax"...not sure what is happening. Hopefully the Dr can give me something other than "try to look away from your computer more often"...

Never get too:
Hungry
Angry
Lonely or
Tired

You were worn out last night. You'll have a better day today! :)

Hadn't heard that one before. Will try to keep it in mind. I knew about not getting too hungry, but not the others.

I was defintely worn out last night. Last Monday as well. Gave this some thought on the drive home today (30 minutes in no traffic is a lot of thinking time).... Monday I basically do twice as much work (Fri and Sat business) and I am ALWAYS worn out when I get home. I try to plan easy stuff for dinner, but it seems like I have no interest in cooking/eating (or in the case of last week even going out - we had pizza).

Tired today too, taxi driving does that to me, but I managed to do the chopping for fajitas, now it's up to DH to cook them :D

On the subject of nuts.... I'm sure most of you have noticed I have almonds nearly every day. I suppose if there were out in a bowl or something I'd have trouble, dunno. I lightly roast a pan full and put them in a container in the cupboard where I keep my tuna. I also keep a 1/4 Cup measuring cup in the container with them. So at snack time I measure my portion and that's that. There are many foods where that won't work for me, but I do okay with my almonds.

I'm noticing my hunger levels are changing (was obvious on Sunday when I came up short) so that's a good thing. I will need to tweak my meal planning though so that I can get all my protein in.

Will post the numbers after dinner, even though I could go ahead and enter dinner as I know what it will be.

Okay, totals for the night. I added a teeny bit of cheese after dinner as I was still hungry :( Turns out, the amount of chicken we actually made (based on weighing after I chopped) was the amount called for in the recipe for 4 servings and we had 5 people. I've always just pulled out 1 frozen breast per person + 1 cuz there never seems to be enough. Will have to adjust that in the future I guess.

So for the day:

Protein 138
Carbs: 49
Supps: yes
Exercise: scheduled off 1/3 so far for the week
Water: working on the last 10 of 100 right now, didn't get my early morning glass which put me behind so I'm drinking up now... will probably spend half the night in the bathroom ;)

So I'm back on track :) It is nice to know that I can have those bad nights and still get right back on the wagon.

Oh and a bit of good news, that will hopefully lead to more, DS has a phone interview tomorrow with HP and a live interview next week with N&S. We really gotta find him a job, he's eating my lunches ;)

Ending on a great note. Had a lovely pork roast with salad and sugar free jello for dinner.
Spent an hour in the gym, started with a mile warm up on the thread mill, then did some heavy duty core and upper body and finished with 2 1/2 miles on the bike. Will certainly feel it tomorrow!

But tomorrow I am in Springfield for the day, so will not be getting any exercise, back to the gym on Thursday.

I made the cauliflower casserole for the first time and we both really liked it. I think it will be even better tomorrow. Soooo filling eh?

Just got back from line dancing practice --we had a great work out tonight. Was puffing a few times there.

Today was sucessful again and I kept calories low as well so I'm 2out of 3 for March.
See all of you tomorrow.

It has been a good day for me, too. I actually had sauteed beef and peppers with green beans instead of the chicken. I thickened the pan juice with xanthan gum and it was delicious.

The flu is gone from our house (I dearly hope!) and everone's back to normal.
