It's not so much that we're afraid of change or so in love with the old ways, but it's that place in between that we fear . . . . It's like being between trapezes. It's Linus when his blanket is in the dryer. There's nothing to hold on to.

Leaving the familiar takes us out of our comfort zone. I think we’ve done a good job this month in making Protein Power our familiar, comfortable place. How secure are you with this way of eating? :)
Breakfast will be a protein shake. Lunch will be cauli-bake. Dinner looks like a mélange of smoked sausage and green beans.
Have a great Monday, everyone!

Great quote, Carol. I'm in that "inbetween place" in another area of my life and it is rather shaky.
Thankfully not in that place re: diet. PP is the way to go, and I'm learning the intricacies of maintenance. Still up a couple of pounds, but scale is moving in the right direction AND blood sugars are better when I stick to the maintenance plan.
Have a great day, everyone. :D

Hi Carol and BC !!
I think my area "between the trapezes" is trying to 'maintain' my weight during maintenance.
While I was actually losing weight I was totally motivated and altho it didn't come off quickly, the weight loss was ongoing month after month and I actually got a bit below the goal I had set for myself. Then I tried maintenence again (it's where I went astray the first time) and from Oct. to Dec 31st. I regained almost 8 lbs.
I think not posting in Fitday to journal my food was the key to the creep. So my solution from now on is keep track even if it is only in a journal (when I'm at the trail ride.) There is something about having to write it down that makes me more aware of what I'm doing. I was hoping not to have to keep such a tight rein on things when I reached goal , but I can see that keeping a close account each day is the 'safety net' under my trapeze.
I am very much into that middle place, and it's because fitday.com is not working for me. I NEED the routine of keeping my food listed there and knowing exactly where my counts are before I put anything into my mouth.
Well, the fact that I can't "delete" anything I've listed as "food eaten" makes my numbers wrong and therefore (for some crazy reason) I let myself have handfuls of nuts...
How those two things are correlated, I don't know...but in my mind they are.
ARGH.
I will email them AGAIN today.
WARNING for all fitday.com users...beware of Internet Explorer 8...hold off on downloading it until fitday is fixed!!!

For some reason it always seems to surprise me that no matter how much we may dislike where we are, it is, if not a comfortable place, at least an easy place. It takes little or no effort to remain there. To change can be a struggle, and when we get tired, discouraged, depressed, it is just so easy to fall back into the easy way. I guess I just need to keep on until the new way becomes the familiar and easy way.
I did not have a stellar weekend, food-wise. But I'm right back on track this morning and full of determination.
Breakfast: Pork chop
Lunch: Salad w/hamburger patty
Supper: Pot roast w/veggies (NOT potatoes)

Back again for a quick hello cus I'm not supposed to use the computer too much at all. Seems that the cellophane in front of my eye is still rather evident and I really am having a hard time seeing. In any case the laser went well and my retina is all sewn to the eyeball again. Good news.
Bad news is that inbetween my trapezes I have been eating badly but that is typical of when I get nervous. So I am just taking the punches and trying not to overdo the bad stuff.
Now that I am at home from visiting my DD and her DH I am going to get back into the saddle. Karol, I wish I could do it literally on one of your trail rides. It would do me a world of good! In any case tomorrow I go for groceries and will fill in the empty places in the fridge with good stuff recommended by my private counselor (Max) who probably has had a blast in France. In any case I'm off to read a bit then turn of the pc cus my doc would really blast me if she saw me online.
Glad to read you guys!!!!!
Ahh, the dreaded CREEP. Love that phrase and isn't it descriptive. I personally have had the creep too many times to count.

So many of us think when the weight is off we're home free. :p Not so much!
I am very much into that middle place, and it's because fitday.com is not working for me. Amy, can you load the previous version of Explorer just for fitday, or does V.8 wipe out V.7? I have Safari and Firefox both on my Mac because my flex-plan website didn't like Safari. Firefox is a free download, btw.
For some reason it always seems to surprise me that no matter how much we may dislike where we are, it is, if not a comfortable place, at least an easy place.Well put, Sandy. That reminds me of the old saying, "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know!" :)

Puddin, you KNOW she would! :paranoid: I had to stay face-down and not read anything for two weeks! I'm glad to see you, though. ;)
I personally have had the creep too many times to count.Me too! :o

(((((Puddin)))) If you were here I'd surely take you for a ride on our Fox Trotters and let you enjoy the fun. It is so relaxing, in fact at one time there my bp was extraordinarily high and stayed up for quite a while, but I noticed when I got back from a long, long ride it was always much lower--my own personal meditation I guess.
So sorry about your eye, hopefully this will do the trick and you'll be back with us again. Til then we'll be missing you !!

(((Ammy))) sorry too that Fitday is not working for you. Bummer as I know you use it a lot. Luckily the only problem I have with it is it won't keep my pass word so I have to keep typing things in all the time, but that is just a minor thing.
Hope they resolve the problem soon and thanks for the warning about Ex. 8.
I discovered a way to temporarily solve the fitday issue...and I feel like a fool that I hadn't tried this before...:o:o:o
Instead of deleting the food I didn't eat, I put it in as a zero amount...
It's still there, but shows no counts.
Okay so I've been too busy to try something as simple as this...(I'm a bit embarrassed)...However, that doesn't mean they shouldn't fix this issue. I will email them again every day until I hear something back.
Not pestering, just checking in.
OHHHHHHHHH GOOD NEWS!!!!
I (as an employer) just got a letter about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 stating that employees are only required to pay 35% of their COBRA starting March 1st. This is SUCH good news for GF!!!! That makes a "coming soon" huge bill shrink drastically and helps keep us afloat even longer!
Her work subsidized while she was receiving severance, but starting in May we would have had a many hundred dollar bill to keep her insurance active (and she takes daily pills and needs active insurance).
Oh what good news!!!

Amy, I know that relieves a lot of tension! :)
I just posted the April Challenge if you all want to go take a look. :D
I have GOT to get back to reporting morning and night.
If I don't report at night it's because I'm snitching.
Tonight I opened our gorp bag for camping...nuts and dried fruits.
Have no idea how much I ate...........:frown:
